WotC: Q: Catatonic Fear

Need an official answer: Since the vampire striking with Catatonic Fear is having his strike's damage dealt in some phantom strike resolution phase, (S:CE terminates strike resolution before any damage is done [RTR]) do his retainers (Wolf Companion, etc.) deal their damage during that strike resolution phase? It seems to me that this card is seriously flawed. The definition of combat ends involves there being no strike resolution phase.
