The VEKN database and calendar are now tied to the White Wolf
website making it a bit easier to manage profiles and such.
Users will be able to link both their VEKN IDs and Prince IDs through
their
White Wolf profile. Errors direct people to contact me. As a tool for
helping to solve some issues, here are some
links
Direct URL where people need to go to link their VEKN ID(there is a
link in
their profile):
http://www.white-wolf.com/vtesimport.php
Direct URL where people need to go to link their Prince ID. Note that
they
MUST have a VEKN ID associated FIRST before linking a Prince ID:
http://www.white-wolf.com/vtesprinceimport.php
These pages prompt you for your White Wolf Website login information.
Please set that account up first.
I would like to ask that you get the VEKN ID URL
to as many players as possible so that the database can be updated.
I will field questions and comments in private emails as always:

Hmm, at the moment the functionality is worse than before.
1) Own rating is very hard to find, only through "My Account"
2) Event titles are not shown (Only some "Imported VTES event"
3) Rank in the event is not shown (?!?)
4) There are top X lists for the singles countries (that was heavily
used before)
5) Career Games are lost
Will this change or improve? Players here are allready asking.

I totally second Johannes' question. Is it going to change
or improve *drastically*?
I'm not (very) used to whining, but after registering and
linking my V:EKN ID, what I found is one of the most
counter-intuitive things I've ever seen on the web
(and some of my tournament results look incorrect too,
but unfortunately I don't know all of them by heart and
I can't check against the no-longer-available old site).
Brrrrr... :-(

This question, and the questions about the now-missing Player Registry,
Prince List, Demo and Event How-tos, and all other material previously
available on the Events page, is also discussed in the Conclave mailing
list.
I really hope that WW will be able to make all these resources
available again soon, in one form or another.
As to the usability of the new features we can already see, I am with
Emiliano - these need to be thoroughly debugged to be made usable at
all.
Only after this has been done will we be able to see if it was an
improvement over the old web pages.

If it is of any help to the guys at WW, please take into account that
many players do not access the information directly, but are informed
by other players thru message boards and such.
I point this out just in case you are planning to somehow restrict
access to information on other players (i.e.: tournaments/games played,
GW/VP's standings and such stuff).
I remember having search for these kind of information several times
before to help settle a dispute over VEKN ratings and it was really
helpful. What's more, it was available to everyone with some time for
it (not everyone have time to spare, you know), and without need to
have a WW account (anyway, I had one of those a couple of times for the
WW Forums, but seem to have lost it due to innactivity... dunno...
perhaps I'm missing something here - correct me if I am wrong, please
-, so I now check WW forums without logging, and abstain from posting).
Cheers!

You will have the access to the same amount of information.

The former page is still available here:
http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/?line=events
[ quoted text not captured ]
Thanks for that pointer, LSJ.
WW just should have left that page functional, and linked the new Event
Calendar from there (exactly as it was for the old one), instead of
having replaced the whole page with the new calendar.
Lots of confusion could have been avoided that way.
Another question regarding the tools still accessible via the old page:
Oscar Garza stated on the Conclave that the Player Registry is
currently being worked on, too.
Is the current version of the Registry usable in the meantime (e.g.,
for adding new players to the Registry), or will this added/changed
information been lost during whatever transfer is made right now?

Hi,
I hope the following comment may be helpful to
the people taking care of the new player registry.
I checked my record and the record of few other
players I know, and...
...the registry seems unable to handle half victory
points!
For instance, if you look at my record (V:EKN ID 3295001),
I have 0 VP in Gen*Con continental qualifier, and 3 VP
in the day 2 of the Championship: these should be
respectively 0.5 and 3.5.
Notice that however the ratings are computed correctly,
taking into account the half VPs.
Let me use this occasion to point out another problem
in the registry, that was present also in the old version:
relative player rankings are not correctly computed
because of the bad handling of tied scores.
Let me explain it with an example (for a concrete one,
you may want to look at positions 42-46 of the current
world rankings). Suppose player A and B have 100
rating points each, while C has 50.
The rankings should then read:
1. player A, 100 pts
1. player B, 100 pts
*3*. player C, 50 pts
In the player registry, C would instead turn out to be
second, instead of third. And this error messes up
*all* the positions below.
Cheers,
Emiliano
Hi
when i go to the page linked by Oscar i see only half a page, on the
bottom there is a nice SERVER ERROR both in that page and in the
account association page.
I'm using Firefox 1.0.6 for windows (from work, i'll try with a
non-crippled machine at home this evening ;-)

hi,
When i tried that, the system told me that i have to update my Game
Finder info, or i could not link my Vekn ID. other than that, it
worked fine for me. the database is almost empty tough, when can we
expect that to be filled?

Looks like all the links leading off from that page are now dead...

Hi!
I know, I know, I'm extremely annoying... ;-)
But... Can we have some updates about the fate of the V:TES
website? Now on the homepage there are cool sidebars that
should show the top 10 ranked players, but all they show is
random V:EKN numbers.
This seems to happen because all rankings were removed, while
only the tournament-by-tournament ratings (still without half VPs)
remain...
Any news?
Thanks! Cheers,
Emiliano

Emiliano,
it is not you who is annoying here, but the removal of some much-used
functionalities from the VTES web sites, without any prior information,
without any information updates about the current status, without
testing before implementing the change, and without fall-back planning.

It may be worth remembering that this isn't an official support forum
for White Wolf, and that - based on past history - LSJ's access to
various parts of the White Wolf website is limited. (Such as it being
quite difficult for him to update some things outside the /vtes/
directory, when some of the downloads have moved.)
You may find e-mail to the appropriate people to be more productive.

I used the "Contact Us" button on WW's web site today and sent the
inquiry copied below - I will let you know if and when I receive an
answer...
-----------------------------
to: Website Support
subject: VTES Ratings page, VEKN IDs, and Event Calendar
from: Hardy Range
reply-to: prinz....@gmx.de
message:
Hello, there is quite some uncertainty about the future of the VTES
support on WW's web site.
The current Ratings page displays wrong results after the import from
th eold database, no player regstration is possible, players in my
group complain about errors ocurring during attempts to regsiter their
accounts with WW or when trying to link accounts with their VEKN IDs,
etc.
Currently, there is some discussion about this on the VTES newsgroup
and elsewhere, but no official statement from WW comes forth.
So, what is currently done to fix all the different problems, and when
can we expect to have a web site that has all the functionalities the
old version had?
Your answer will be very much appreciated.

Yes. These things (Ratings, VEKN IDS, Calendar) are outside of my
sphere of influence (or knowledge). I know only what I can see through
the web interface, just like everyone else.
Oscar can tell you more. He reads this group (perhaps not as frequently
as I, but he reads it). So he'll be along to answer, I'm sure.

There seem to be a lot of problems with WWs internet access / presence,
because there aren´t Conclave mails, the website is not updated and no
one replies to emails. Or there is a Georgia-only holiday ;-)

Emiliano and all,
since yesterday, the Conclave mailing list, which was down for the last
two weeks, is working again, and Oscar Garza bade all Princes to submit
issues with the new system to him directly, so he can forward those to
the web programmers at WW.
I took the liberty and sent him my short list, which included the issue
you noted about that half VPs are not displayed.
Hopefully, what we see on the website will improve over the next weeks.
