Another Mask question

I was confused by Mask of 1000 Faces at a tournament this weekend because (I think) "same action" normally means "by card name" (if a card was used to take the action). But I looked on Google, and it seems that in Mask's text, "capable of performing the action" means "at the level that the original actor started the action at". So a superior Kindred Spirits, for example, cannot be Masked by a vampire with inferior Dementation. Right? How about Derange? Looking at card text again, I'm not sure if an !Malk can take over a (Cam) Malk's Derange action (assuming the !Malk is also older than the target). Although the action *could* have been legally taken requiring !Malk, it *was* taken requiring Malk. I'm not sure if this is OK because the effects of Derange refer to "the acting vampire's clan", which would be checked when the action resolves, or not OK because the !Malk doesn't qualify to be performing the action as announced. thanks, Josh had thought until recently that the "capable" wording cleared everything up

Correct. no switching requirements in a Mask. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. This really doesn't answer the question. Can a Malk mask an !Malk derange? David Cherryholmes Duke Radiology P.E.T. Facility (919) 684-7714 d...@petsparc.mc.duke.edu

Can a Malk mask an !Malk >derange? Yes, it does answer the question. No, you cannot change the clan requirements for Derange in the middle of the action. When the action is announced, all effects of the card are announced. Once announced, those effects cannot be changed. A Malkavian Antitribu cannot take a Derange action to turn a target vampire into a Camarilla Malkavian. Therefore a Malkavian Antitribu cannot Mask into a Derange action started by a Malkavian. Still, a reply of "correct" to a question in the form of "a OR b?" doesn't help me to understand. It seemed that the crux of Josh's question was whether or not the Malk/!Malk shift constituted changing the requirements. <snip explanation> Thanks. [ quoted text not captured ]

The reply was not just "Correct" It also said that you couldn't switch requirements under a Mask. The !Malk plays Derange as a card that requires a !Malk. [ quoted text not captured ]
