You haven't even played with the Camarilla Edition (CE) stuff yet, and you're already asking about the next expansion. Think it was Noal that pointed out the CE packs were appropriately colored White, much like cocaine. I believe White Wolf policy dictated a "no sooner than" 9-months from the last release. With CE being released in August, you'd expect that the Anarchs would be released no sooner than May, 2003. Though I'm thinking it would be better to have the Anarchs released at Origins 2003, which (I think) is in June next year. Regards, BernieTime Lansing, Michigan

I have all the cards from this 'base' set (except the 15 new ones, which I am guessing will only add to existing strategies). So I don't expect that I play against will change any. I love the new ideas that crop up from all new expansions. I am looking forward to the new vampires. But I really don't need any new copies of my old favs.

Jack Ryan

Please don't wait nine months.....and especially don't wait a whole year. I love the game, but I am a junky and love opening packs with cards I haven't seen before.

[ quoted text not captured ] No, no, please do. I appreciate that White Wolf is a business, and I also like seeing new cards, but I think we need to let the set as a whole simmer for a little while. While veteran V:TES players may not get bored that quick, newbies might, being used to other CCGs where expansions are more prolific. Don't want players fading away because the game isn't well supported.

That game also had a "keeping up with the jones's" factor that was very real, while V:TES doesn't yet. But I like being able to pitch this game to new players as one that does not require an enormous expenditure of cash. I know the days of $5 Jyhad boxes are over, but I'd like to not see Jyhad become just another CCG. [ quoted text not captured ]

One player in my group already whupped a table > with the new Concealed Weapon in a CEL gun deck... I've just done the same. 5-cap CEL crypt with permanent intercept, even without any of the new camps this deck is scary. Also, IMO this edition will force all players to redesign *every* deck the've built. And the obviuous fact that those great new vamps will bring on new kind of decks. I've got a few new decks in mind: -Toreador Aching Beauty/pulse/Mask of 1000 faces (with Villon, Klaus, Murrieta and Suzzanne, shall add a bunch of small caps AUS obf cel vamps...) -Brujah with fortitude Turbo-Archon: Jaroslav, Gwendolyn and Tyler prevent-disarm-amaranth deck. -Erichtho and his Outcast horde [ quoted text not captured ]

Jack Ryan

There are only 15 new cards......there is nothing to digest. Vampires maybe....some new art......not going to make any radical changes to the decks types.

Jack Ryan

The 15 library cards are not going to change the deck types out there. And I do want to see the new vampires....but I really liked what you did with the new cards from Bloodlines(hoped to see more of the same for CE, but...denied!).

Jack Ryan

That is the main reason I love this game.....you can't have one deck to rule them all.....it is a continual adjusting process. I was hoping for some new mechanics that would spice up this whole adjusting process.

I'm hoping that things will slow down after >Anarchs. My personal preference would be something like: Release Camarilla Edition now (done) (Reprint Camarilla Edition if necessary) Reprint Sabbat War and Final Nights for the New Year - perhaps with TCE makeover, as suggested Around April (about the same time as the Storyline last year, which was in March) hold another Storyline tournament. If a new card is to be added to The Anarchs, it can be designed along similar lines to Baltimore Purge - a card that's tweaked around the edges for the winning clan, or somesuch. This may get a new promo-only card printed. This would be legal for normal play in May - about the right time for the championships to kick in. Then the rest of the year gets a static set for tournament play, with The Anarchs being released around, say, Halloween. Of the big "National Champpionship" tournaments, this would only really affect things like the joint European finals or a whole US final if it occurred quite late. Perhaps even time it for a sealed deck element at such tournaments. A Halloween release, akin to original Sabbat, seems thematically doable. It gives everyone time, keeps cards in circulation and so on. Unlikely to happen, however. -- James Coupe PGP 0x5D623D5D Don't just clap. What's the use of that? [ quoted text not captured ] The main reason I would like the Anarchs in about six months is that I want new spiffy cards for my favorite clan, the Gangrels. I just looooove Protean. :) New vampires would be *very* nice for them, although, grantedly, they got a good mix in Jyhad. What I hope for the most, is that we get Gangrel *and* !Gangrel. The !Gangrel got really shafted in both of their expansion, due to having two discipline spreads, and for a viable deck more of them are needed. Magnus

It's notable, of course, that - as a result - they got a couple more vampires in total than other similar clans. Excluding Camarilla Edition releases, there are 15 Ventrue Antitribu and 17 Gangrel Antitribu. Those two vampires are pretty insufficient. Two or three more would be nice. My only worry is whether or not they're sufficiently in theme for an Anarchs expansion. [ quoted text not captured ]

Hi, My guess about the crypt cards is 15 new (group 3) Gangrel and 20 Caitiff. For library, at least ten reprinted Protean cards. I would also like to see 13 more Panders, 9 more Sabbat vampires for each of the rest clans, 1 more for each of the BL clans with 5 vampires and 2 more BB -one for each circle (in total 138). I think this is just wishfull thinking, Sabbat vampires will always be less and have less discipline cards (11 obt and vic against 22 for the others). It is more likely that Bloodlines will get nothing, and non-Panders Sabbat and/or Indies will get one more to keep the set small. On an other subject, I total agree with the time frame of releases, one set every 8-9 months. Also, it is very important to keep SW, FN and maybe BL, as well as their preconstructed in print. Maybe you haven't been on the end of a nasty weenie Pander deck (which already works extremely well with the 11 vampires they already have. 13 more would easily be OVERKILL). >9 more Sabbat vampires for each of >the rest clans, 8 is probably more appropriate (since they each get one in CE). More probably for !Gangrel and !Tremere. >1 more for each of the BL clans with 5 vampires and 2 >more BB -one for each circle (in total 138). I disagree. Once again, the entire point of Bloodlines was that these new clans would be supplements, not clans entirely playable by themselves (or at least not without a great deal of effort). If you add "just a few Bloodlines vampires" here, and a few more there, after a few years they will be just as prolific as the mainstream clans. I might be happy with 2 or 3 new, non-scarce Bloodlines vampires total. Halcyan 2

For example Alfred Benezri in the TT is an 8th gen. archbishop, embraced in the victorian age. He could very well be either 5-cap, or even more. The same case goes with Panders himself. There is also the Caitiff Prince of Cairo, etc. The new could range from 1 to 6 capacity. Also know there are a lot of weenie-hoser vampires and library cards to deal with. But the balance would be determined during the playtesting, i guess. > >9 more Sabbat vampires for each of > >the rest clans, > > 8 is probably more appropriate (since they each get one in CE). Until now it was ok since more or less Jyhad vampires sucked when compared to Sabbat vampires, but this is no more the case, from what i've seen so far. > >1 more for each of the BL clans with 5 vampires and 2 > >more BB -one for each circle (in total 138). > > I disagree. Also expanding the BL little by little would give a lot of room for expanding the game without the silliness of grouping. Also I would like to see some new mechanics (like blood cursed, infernal, etc.); Thin Blooded and Improvised Disciplines make great candidates. Also a way to "embrace" allies. Finally, I would like to see an expanding of Library Destruction (Slaughter House, Feline Saboteur, etc.) with the addition of cards that can win you the game in this way. Yes I had heard of the reprints but as I write this, there are a dozen bloodlines boosters and 1 final nights starter for sale at my local hobby store. Pretty pitiful. ONE new card is enough to change the metagame. Take Meddling of Semsith for example. These 15 new cards NEED digested. Tension in the Ranks is potentially very big. Baltimore Purge has a lot of interesting uses. Special Report is important in a big way. Secret Passage is an answer to the SCE costing a blood. Even Forgery can be made into a deck. Forgery, Conditioning. Very nice. Break even every time. > Vampires maybe....some new art......not going to make any radical > changes to the decks types. Ha. Decks are based around vampires. Vampires with good costs more so than others. Vampires with useful strategies even more so. CE edition has both of those two things. Consider Khalid. No more stealth jam (or less of it that is). Consider the Brujah who can move two blood backwards during your untap. With a rack and defense you've got a HUGEly quick deck. Yes. It WILL change deck types, as in it will create new ones. Ones that I thnk over time will be more powerful than the older types thanks to the better costing of these new vampires. ~SV

>You're right. I don't think we've even fully digested Bloodlines yet, either. How long do you expect this to take? Should we only have expansions every 2 years so that people have time to try everything they want to try? What problem is actually caused by having expansions every 6 months? So, you don't get to try every last possibility before the environment changes. Some people don't feel the need to delve into every last obscure deck, which means long durations between expansions makes the game stale. OTOH, the people who do have this desire can still be looking for undiscovered archetypes; lack of new cards doesn't prevent that. An expansion every 6 months is not a treadmill. It's more a minimum level of support for a CCG. There's no reason it should be a financial burden any more than playing a CCG in the first place is.

How many other things that you've known and loved have you seen turned into a shitpile by getting "new and improved" over and over again? I've seen a lot. If the game keeps getting tweaked, just for the sake of tweaking it and making some money, eventually it will become a mind-jarring, vomit-hued pastiche of crap. Do I think it's going to happen with the next set, or the one after that? No. I think Scott and whomever else makes up the design team is doing a great job (note I said nothing about the graphic design department). But it seems to me that it has to terminate somewhere. That means there's a finite number of sets that this game can bear before it, too, ends in a whimper. If that's true, then we might as well ease back a bit. I'd like to savor my V:TES, thank you, and I don't need fries with that. And then there's White Wolf's perspective. This is how they make a living. I can understand that it's a little bit parasitic, a little bit antagonistic with the producer-consumer dichotomy, without taking it personally and thinking of anyone as a Big Meany. > An expansion every 6 months is not a treadmill. It's more a minimum level of > support for a CCG. There's no reason it should be a financial burden any more > than playing a CCG in the first place is. I don't really know squat about what it takes to support a CCG. Is there a minimum level? I wish Steve and all the other WW'ers the best, but I think there's one really good data point already for the minimum level of support to keep the game alive being measured in years. So, if you have some information that suggests we need a new expansion every six months (nine is, of course, the official track per Scott) to keep the game alive, I'd like to hear you share it. [ quoted text not captured ]

Curevei

>So, if you have >some information that suggests we need a new expansion every six months >(nine is, of course, the official track per Scott) to keep the game alive, >I'd like to hear you share it. For CCGs I've played, each interval that went beyond 6 months caused significant losses in the player base (either obviously so or someone at the company would tell me so in private). I should be a bit clearer about something. I don't think a CCG will instantly die if it fails to put out an expansion every 6 months. What does happen, though, is that CCGs not supported to that level hurt their player bases by not giving their addicts as much crack as they'd like. The diehards may not notice. But, not every player is a diehard. I've run into a fair number of general CCGers who are fickle enough to do something else when one of their games isn't well supported.

Raille

[ quoted text not captured ] Out of all the players I associate with, none approve of 6 month release date time frame. Most prefer 12 months as a minimum. In part due to the costs of building a suitable collection of cards to work with. Raille
