Hi all - Anyone care to give either a link, or a quick tutorial to generate good searches on google for rulings? LSJ often puts search criteria in his replies, but doesn't explain what they mean. I don't want him to reply to this per se, but someone else who is a google master. I looked on Google's FAQ, but didn't find anything that showed how to generate those one line searches that bring back the best listings of stuff. Also, I didn't find anywhere a list of the syntactical shorthand codes to use when trying to generate Google searches. Things like " " is exact, or + is something else, what : means, and so forth. Thanks to anyone who replies with info, it will be very appreciated. best - chris -- chris shorb prince of torrance, where the 5th tradition rules.

Usually mine aer just a few primary and distinctive terms followed by author:lsj You can use quotes in your query to search for words occurring togther like "black hand" (to avoid "hitting" on discussion of Mary the Black and cards from hand). + is redundant. All terms are searched by default. It is used by Google's query-string-building engine to avoid having "%20" in the URLs, though. You can use -term to exclude posts containing term, though. You can also go to http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search to compose your complicated query. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. There, if I'm looking for rulings posts, I typically put some pieces of (or full) card titles in the "all of the words" box at the top, select "sort by date" on the right, and put "LSJ" in the author box. That's it. If I'm looking for posts from other people, I usually put "rec.games.trading-cards.jyhad" in the "newsgroup" box, and sometimes use the "author" box if I know who wrote what I'm looking for. I still often sort by date since I find that's frequently a useful way for me to find what I'm looking for. Sometimes I use the "exact phrase" box too, but not that often.
