Hey guys, I would like to get confirmation on a ruling Joscha had to make yesterday (not to doubt you Joscha,; just to lake sure for future reference) Shambling Hordes is in Combat with a Random vamp with Thaumaturgy Say SH is at 4 life. SH strikes Thaumaturgy vamp strikes with superior Theft of Vitae Due to the resolution/timing of Theft, does the Shambling Hordes still strike for 4, or do you first deduct the theftedlives from the strike. IE: if vamp thefts for 2 on a SH of 4 life, does the SH strike for 4 or for 2? ruling yesterday was that you first resolve the theft, so that the shambling would strike for 2. thanks for clarifying /jo

Both strikes resolve simultaneously - so Theft for 2, Hands for 4. The thing that confuses people is that stolen blood is applied to the thefting vamp before damage is applied. from the rulebook 6.4.5 Steal Blood. This effect moves blood counters (or life counters) from the target to the striking minion. This does not count as damage, so the effect cannot be prevented with damage prevention effects. This effect occurs before the "heal damage" step of damage resolution, so the stolen blood can be used to heal damage even if the damage is inflicted simultaneously. If the stolen blood causes the striking vampire to have more blood than his capacity, the excess drains off immediately (as usual). The heal damage step occurs after strikes have resolved - this is when blood is burned from vampires to heal the damage they take and prevent themselves from being wounded. --> J grail_pbem "at" hotmail.com

[ quoted text not captured ] The strike is "strength damage" resolving simultaneously with "steal 2 blood". So 4 damage is applied at the same time 2 blood is moved. Then the damage (4 damage) is resolved. http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.trading-cards.jyhad/msg/bcb5118b163f05b4

Thanks for clarifying this. Fortunately this ruling didn't change anything of the results. Thanks for asking, Jo. Joscha
