Can Allies increase the amount of life counters on them above their
starting amount (I suppose retainers too). I just ask, as we are a
bit confused when it comes to allies using cards which give them
blood/life
(If a card would cost blood, it costs them life instead, If a card would
give them blood, give them life instead).
Can they go above their starting life, or are additional life
counters just burned?
Thanks

The former.

Yes, allies can go above their starting life. Put down the Summon
Souls and back away from those mummies you bad, bad man.

There is no limit to allies life counters. This is important for the
Succubus and Nephandus, as well as thaumaturgy using allies who play
with theft of vitae.

There is no limit to the number of life counters that an ally can have
(unless otherwise noted by card text). However, to my knowledge, the
only allies that can gain life counters (without having them replaced
by vagabond mystic - who can't raise them above initial life) is Talaq
using theft of vitae and taking no damage from opponent, rafastio
ghoul doing the same, and Kherebhutu and Ahkenaten using a necromancy
action that gains then two blood (can't remember it's name, but it's
from FN). If anyone knows of any others, please tell.

Yes. Any card that gains blood that is playable by an ally who gains
life in stead of blood for playing it will gain him life.
>What about Darkness Within?
No. He's not a vampire when the card is burned.
>Can mercy for the weak be played agtainst an ally?
Card text is pretty clear here.
>Palatial estate?
Card text is sufficient here as well.

Yup, but remember it has to be against an ally. (Since they're using at
inferioe).
>Satyr - Tongue of the Serpent?
Fine. You steal blood.
>What about Darkness Within?
No, it references "this vampire" for a time when the card isn't being
played. Satyr only counts a vampire when playing them. (It is "this
vampire" which receives the counters.)
>Can mercy for the weak be played agtainst an ally?
No, by card text. (opposing vampire)
>Palatial estate?
No, it mentions "this vampire".
