Q. Anarch Session and 'titled' ndependents

These questions were recently posed: Is Xaviar considered titled just because he has votes? Also there's a card called Anarch Secession which can make titled vamps anarchs, so just wondered if that makes any difference. My response was: To answer your first question a quote from the rule book: 10.3. Independents Other clans are not aligned with either sect; they are called Independent. Any clan not listed above as belonging to the Camarilla or the Sabbat is Independent. These vampires are identified simply as "Independent" on card text. Some vampire cards from older sets are identified as "Non-Camarilla" on card text -- these vampires are all Independent vampires. Independent vampires are both "Non-Camarilla" and "Non-Sabbat." Some Independent vampires may start with votes, as listed on card text. Treat these vampires as if they had titles of their own. So if you are independant and have votes then you are considered titled. As for Anarch Session, the card text reads: Anarch Secession [KMW:R] Cardtype: Action +1 stealth action. Requires a ready, non-anarch, titled vampire. Put an anarch counter on this acting vampire. This vampire becomes anarch (and Independent). If he or she had a city title, he or she becomes the baron of the same city as his or her previous title. Minions without titles cannot block this action. Burn the anarch counter if this vampire changes sects. So it is possible for Xavier to play this card but he does not have a city title. I imagine he keeps the 2 votes... but say if he comes a baron he would loose his previous two votes as according to: 10. Vampire Sects Some of the various clans of vampires have grouped themselves into sects. Each sect represents clans with similar philosophies and goals. Each sect has its own codes of conduct and its own political structure and titles. No matter what sect, a vampire cannot have more than one title. If a vampire with a title gains another, he loses the first title, even if the new title would be a demotion. If a vampire with a contested title (see Contested Titles, sec. 4.2) gains a title, he immediately yields the contested title. Is my response correct? Andrew Daley PoS

He keeps his two votes, because the independant titles of "1 vote" and "2 votes" are not tied to sect (he would keep them even if he became Sabbat or Camarilla, as well.) If he gains the baron title, he loses his existing title, yes. > Is my response correct? Yes. --Colin McGuigan

What if Sonja Blue successfully took her action to remove a vampire's title? Would he lose his votes? By the same token, what if he was elected Firebrand and Sonja removed that title, would he still be able to pay a blood to untap a younger anarch? Sonja Blue [KMW:U] Cardtype: Vampire Clan: Ventrue Group: 4 Capacity: 5 Discipline: dom pot CEL FOR PRE Independent: Gain 4 pool when Sonja is moved to the ready region in your influence phase. Sonja may remove a vampire's title as a (D) action. She may block as an ally (but remains a vampire in combat). During your prey's discard phase, your predator may burn 1 pool to move Sonja to his or her ready region. If Sonja leaves play, remove her from the game.

Firebrand (and any other card that grants "additional votes" asopposed to just "has X votes") does not grant a title. He keeps his Firebrand vote (and other Firebrand abilities) regardless of his title (or lack). John

[ quoted text not captured ] No. Well, mostly... ;) There are two distinct advantages Day Operation has over Daring the Dawn (to ofset he numerous disadvantages, true): 1. It can serve to diversify your unblockable punch so that a DI-ed Daring the Dawn still allows you an option to go unblockable (even if likely at a slightly greater cost). 2. If you have inferior fortitude, but can somehow reduce the costs, like with Ankara Citadel or Masochism counters or whatnot, you save a blood off your vamp. -- Bye, Daneel

Barring a handful of rares - War Ghoul, Powerbase: Montreal, the rare vampires from Final Nights, Giant's Blood, Golconda, Dragonbound and others that amount to at most 1 or 2 Rares per set - it is fairly easy to find all rares for a fair enough and affordable price at eBay and sites that sell singles, like TheLasombra. Even these "most wanted" Rares pop up ever so often on eBay if you're willing to pay 10 to 30 dollars each (varies according to the card and availability at that time). I've almost completed a "set" of Final Nights rare vampires (3 copies each save for Ezmerelda, I still need one more) this way, paying something around 10-12 dollares each. Day Operation is fairly easy to find for much less money than that. Daring the Dawn is another matter, but at least it is a fixed card on two starters, Ravnos and !Ventrue. That's a bit on the high side. Most of the hardest to get rares that I've bought or tried to bid for (Blanket of Night, Shroud of Absence) went for under $10. And if you check the vtesinla.org listing of ebay prices, there are only a few cards with avg price higher than $10 and the most expensive is Meddling of Semsmith (a promo) at $18.16.

I guess this is going to happen as time passes since Jyhad boosters are still available, but not everyone has access to them - you can only find them online here and there. Still, if it was an exception and Golconda/Giant's Blood usually sells for less, it just adds up to the point of the original post ;) >> Even these "most wanted" Rares pop up ever so often on eBay if you're >> willing to pay 10 to 30 dollars each (varies according to the card >and >> availability at that time). I was using the full range of prices, minimum to maximum, not the average. I've seen War Ghoul and Ezmerelda selling for something around $28. I've payed $10 for an Augustus, and gave up on another copy just one week later because it went up to $15. Of course the $10 to $30 is a bit of a stretch, but necessary - don't want any potential seeker to yell at me later something like "but you said I could find War Ghoul for $12, I'm biddin' on this copy on eBay and it's going for more than $20!" and such. War Ghoul - never seen it Powerbase: Montreal - seen it once in anothers collection but not played the rare vampires from Final Nights (dunno which ones) Giant's Blood - 3 copies Golconda - 2 or 3 copies Dragonbound - never seen Blanket of Night - seen once in anothers collection but not played Shroud of Absence -never seen it I got a bit wary after getting to the bottom of a box (anarch) and getting exactly the same boosters 2 or 3 times in one box. I like that they can be traded but it would take me 3 days work to get $20US to spend and thats not including P&P international or the possibility of being ripped off/lost. I do think I have Daring the Dawn somewhere. Note to self: must get around to inventory...

Oh, I understand. I had to sell a few Rares on eBay to get the money to buy the final nights rare vampires (the 11 caps or each Clan, Augustus Giovanni, Ezmerelda, Sutekh and Ur-Shulgi). But about being ripped off/lost, just check the seller's reputation by seeing his feedback, if you someday decide to try eBay. It's fairly accurate on who you can trust or not. The old tactic with buying boxes of boosters is to find a friend who's buying a box. Buy two. Then each of you take half from each box. Worked out quite well with some of the Wizards of the Coast sets. Sometimes, a box really did seem to have a lot of the same cards in it and none of others. [ quoted text not captured ]

Huh? I recall Legends having an "A"/"B" box issue (I think it was Legends - that was a long time ago) where a strategy like this might have done some good. In almost all other case it's likely to do nothing whatsoever at best. The way I'm guessing both Magic and VtES and probalby quite a few others are printed nowadays, I'd bet this is likely to actually hurt your chances of getting a better spread of cards. That's because in most boxes I've opened for a number of years, the rares seem like they're taken from consecutive spots on a rare sheet. Sometimes there's a "bump" or a glitch where you might get some doubling up and I think this is where people have gotten the wrong idea about the process. But by and large, I'd rather have my 36 rares from all the same box rather than from different boxes. I'm not sure people understand this, but if they want the best spread on rares, they actually want LESS randomness in the process - as long as the non-random pattern is a favorable one. From my observation opening boxes, I'm pretty sure there's a pattern (more or less) and I'm pretty sure it's a relatively favorable one. It just doesn't inevitably prevent doubles. But it does seem to do a pretty good job of eliminating triples or worse, which I'd guess off hand would be much more common were the rares distributed in a truly random fashion. Fred

That why I went to buying a box or half-box, hoping to get a good rare-spread per box but it didn't work out that well (however I admit, I doubt the Anarch boosters were the best example of this.) I reasoned that if I chose randomly I ran a purely statistical chance of getting a new (or at least one I had few of) rare. If I got a box then there was a hope to improve those odds by a little. Not many buyers/traders round here to even up the rare-trades but we hope to influence out a few more.

Augustus is rare? I already have two and that's only out of about 15boosters. Might have to see about selling one off. So thanks again.

About drawing out 2 Augustus, that's the sort of thing that happens when you buy/pick boosters random out of the box. You get 15 packs, double copies of some rares, and no signal of a good bunch of other Rares. That's why I still don't have a single Seal of Veddartha, per example - I chose to buy Gehenna boosters in small quantities, and after what?, 40 or 50 packs, I still lack some events and other Rares from that set. Buying a KMW box and a few extra packs and doin' a little trade net me almost all rares - only Sudario Refraction, Trophy: Diablerie and NSA Trio are missing. Both methods costed me roughly the same amount of money but the second had better results, so... best, Fabio "Sooner" Macedo V:TES National Coordinator for Brazil [ quoted text not captured ]
