Will the Final Nights card Set be playable? Not quite 30 days between the release date and the tourney, so I thought I'd ask, before I put anything together for this. Raille

Seems you've answered your own question. The official release date for Final Nights is June 11. That makes Final Nights legal in constructed deck events on July 11. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. Steve and your self have stated previously that their can be occasional exceptions to the rules, and already have (if I recall correctly) done so with the Sabbat War release, for some of the people over seas. I just thought I could get a confirmation as to whether the coordinator for this asked for, or got a waiver for this. So. Did the Prince/Coordinator get a waiver for this? Raille

Regulars on Usenet _should_ know the answer to that question. But due to a single variance, the rule isn't always the rule. So people aren't quite sure and feel like they have to ask. Fred

"Raille" <rai...@mich.com> wrote in message news:3B240D5F...@mich.com... [ quoted text not captured ] As I am the one running the events at Origins this year, I will be happy to answer your question. Feel free to bring up anything else you may have questions about. Since I did not ask LSJ for an exception to the rule, the rule is still in place. I did not WANT to ask for an exception, since I felt, based on 8+ years of CCGing, that there would inevitably be some players that have their Final Nights cards integrated into their decks, and some other players that would complain, or whatever, because they don't have "enough" cards, or haven't gotten "ready" for the new set. There IS a logic to the 30-day rule, and it seemed to apply in this case. > Raille Kevin J. [ quoted text not captured ] Except that the exception was announced as such. All rules apply unless some overriding text is in place, just like for cards. :-) [ quoted text not captured ]

The trouble with it (and mind you, it's not that big a deal, I'm just relating why I'm in sympathy with Raille about feeling the need to post and ask the question) is that there's a tendency to wonder if I missed something. "Hmmm, another big tournament coming up just sly of the deadline. Someone _might_ have posted 'overriding text' somewhere and I just missed it." And it really really really sucks to show up a CCG tournament with a deck built to the wrong environment. So you get on the horn and specifically ask the question so you can have a much more confident feeling about what you're going to bring. Fred

Are Final Nights cards reprinted from previous cardsets legal in tourneys prior to the 30-day deadline? e.g. Can I use the Dreams of the Sphinx I picked up in the Giovanni FN starter in a tourney this June?

LSJ

[ quoted text not captured ] No. Cards with the Final Nights sumbol on the are not legal for constructed deck tournaments until July 11. Except for the two that were released early (Hesha and Fatima). [ quoted text not captured ]

>===== Original Message From LSJ <vte...@white-wolf.com> ===== [ quoted text not captured ] I just must say that that basically sucks monkey IMO. There should be no problems with reprinted cards that are not errataed as they have been around since DS and AH. This gives players who have the DS and AH versions an edge over players who *only* have the FN version of a card that does the same thing, is called the same but is only different in its set symbol. What about players not able to trade for the AH versions and that started with SW?? They might have bought more Giovanni starters to get those cards and now they cannot use them merely because they got in the game 4 years later?? I realise and understand sets are only legal until 30 days after release, and exeptions are not made but who the hell is going to give a rat's ass about which set a Dreams is from. It does the same. This leaves a kind of bitter taste in my mouth. No pun is intended by any means, Scott, just had to get this of my chest. Tim Eijpe

I Then they're in the same boat they were in a week ago. The alternative leads to problems with the cards that *have* been changed in FN - changes don't go into effect until July 11. Guess my reaction was a bit harsh and pre-emptive. Like I wrote I fully realize the need and reasons behind the 30 days delay. Must be the fact that i have to wait for at least a week before we get the set here, I guess. Cheers:) Tim

Except for the two > that were released early (Hesha and Fatima). This should be fun... So, if a reprint card has new text in Final Nights, does the old text still have precedence until the 30-day deadline has elapsed, or is the new text operative as soon as it is printed, though the card itself is not legal? [dives for cover] - Jason Bell

[ quoted text not captured ] The former. That's the whole point. [ quoted text not captured ]
