Reverend Blackwood's special ability is that he inflicts +1 damage with Thaumaturgy strikes. If he plays Theft of Vitae, does he steal blood as well as inflict a point of damage (because he struck with a Thaumaturgy strike), or does the strike have to inflict damage for the +1 damage to take effect (like the Rowan Ring and Lucky Blow ruling)? I would guess not, but some confirmation is appreciated. Scott Halvorson halv...@cptc.wisc.edu

The latter. He did not strike with a damage-dealing strike, and so the +1 has nothing to apply itself to. "Zero damage" and "no damage" are different concepts. [ quoted text not captured ] The way I understood it is yes it does 1 damage. Theft of Vitae is a strike card and his ability is that he does +1 damage with each Thaumaturgy strike. Thus he strikes with Theft stealing 2 blood and does 1 point of damage (0 + 1 = 1).

For the same reason, you can't use a Lucky Blow with a Rowan Ring, since that strike doesn't deal damage either. [ quoted text not captured ]

Theft of Vitae is not a damage-dealing strike, so it can't deal damage. -- L. Scott Johnson (vte...@wizards.com) VTES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. You understand incorrectly. Theft of Vitae doesn't deal damage. Adding to *non-existent* (not just 0) damage isn't possible, so Reverend Blackwood steals 2 blood with Theft, and deals 0 damage. In a similar fashion, you cannot play a bleed modifier to a political action because there is NO bleed to add to, not just a bleed of 0. -- James Coupe (Prince of Mercia) Change nospam to obeah to reply Vampire: Elder Kindred Network http://madnessnetwork.hexagon.net
