So I'm putting together an imbued deck to, ya know, use all those Nights of Reckoning cards I have floating around. My two main aims for this deck are: A) Avoid pissing off the whole table just by sitting down with it. B) Have a few small vampires in there just for doing things like hypothetically killing Smiling Jack, being Blood Dolls, and diablerizing when convinient. Here is my initial attempt: Crypt: 1x Earl Deams (6) Jud, Vis, +1 stealth. 3x Jennie Orne (5) Inn, Jud, Vis, Get out of Hosptial cheap. 2x Jack Harmon (4) Def, Jud, Optional Manuver. 1x Paul Moreton (4) Def, Vis 1x Francois Loehr (3) Def, Jud, Costs extra blood to get him. 1x Inez Villagrande (3) Inn, Get her a power when she enters play. 1x David Morgan (3) +1 intercept vs vampires under 3 cap. 1x Nedal the Careless (1) 1x Sandra White (1) Make someone burn a pool when she diablerizes their vampire. Library: 6x Angel of Berlin 4x Memories of Mortality 2x Church of Vindicated Faith 2x Blood Doll 1x Fortschritt Library 1x Rose Foundation 1x Specialization 1x Unity 1x Vigil: The Thin Line 1x Vox Domini 10x Strike with Conviction 6x Second Sight 6x React with Conviction 6x Vigilance 6x Discern 3x Rejuvinate 1x Forsee 1x Hide 1x Inspire 8x Determine 4x On the Qui Vive 2x Poison Pill 1x Delaying Tactics 6x Leather Jacket 3x Improvised Flamethrower 1x Crusader Sword 2x The Unmasking 2x Edge Explosion 1x Anthelios So my "clever" plans include using Determine to defend my pool, building permanent defense with Unmasking, Discern, and Second Sight (which I'd use 8 of, but apparently I only won 6...), bleed with Strike with Conviction, and use my weenie vampires (2 Caitiff with no noticable disadvnatge and a guy with conditional +1 intercept) to generate some blood as Blood Dolls to back up the Church of Vindicated Faith. Having no votes at all, I figure I should have some vote defense (Poison Pill, DT, Vox Domini) along with the intercept. Some Leather Jackets and Improvised Flame Throwers add a bit of combat defense. It only has non debilitating Events (well, Unmasking and Edge Explosion, with an Anthelios just in case I need one to get Edge Explosion in play). Likely not the best Imbued deck ever, but possible one that is viable. Any ideas? -Peter

When playing Imbued, explain you are using Gehenna Events but you are only running the 2 required ones. Edge Explosion and the Unmasking. I've found most players are fairly reasonable with Imbuded but as soon as those Gehenna events start growing in number you become a big red target. > B) Have a few small vampires in there just for doing things like > hypothetically killing Smiling Jack, being Blood Dolls, and > diablerizing when convinient. Looks reasonable. I'd drop Earl for the 4 cap Hunter who can get Convictions back during your discard phase. You can then untap and use Determine with her..Leaf something I think. I ran something similiar where I'd untap her and cancel/bouce with Determine. > Library: > 6x Angel of Berlin > 4x Memories of Mortality > 2x Church of Vindicated Faith > 2x Blood Doll > 1x Fortschritt Library > 1x Rose Foundation > 1x Specialization > 1x Unity > 1x Vigil: The Thin Line > 1x Vox Domini I'd drop 1 Angel of Berlin for a Rumor Mill, it's proven to be quite effective at loaning out to the evil vampires. Don't forget rescuing cross-table. It's actually VERY useful to be able to do various things to help out crosstable allies, as it makes them much less likely to splash you with table hate. > Here is my initial attempt: > > Crypt: > 1x Earl Deams (6) Jud, Vis, +1 stealth. > 3x Jennie Orne (5) Inn, Jud, Vis, Get out of Hosptial cheap. > 2x Jack Harmon (4) Def, Jud, Optional Manuver. > 1x Paul Moreton (4) Def, Vis > 1x Francois Loehr (3) Def, Jud, Costs extra blood to get him. > 1x Inez Villagrande (3) Inn, Get her a power when she enters play. > 1x David Morgan (3) +1 intercept vs vampires under 3 cap. > 1x Nedal the Careless (1) > 1x Sandra White (1) Make someone burn a pool when she diablerizes their > vampire. I've had very mixed success with Earl. The extra stealth is *quite* handy, but losing a conviction each turn is a harsh penalty. He'll probably do you okay, though, since you can start bringing up vampires instead of a third imbued. You might also try to work Maman Boumba into the mix. Her special is quite good for convincing your crosstable allies to help you instead of hating on you (example: "Don't be afraid of that shotgun on his minion, go forward as hard as you want. I'll end combat between you two if he blocks"), and three votes on top of the Rose Foundation can be a pretty hefty swing in a referendum. > Library: > 6x Angel of Berlin > 4x Memories of Mortality > 2x Church of Vindicated Faith > 2x Blood Doll > 1x Fortschritt Library > 1x Rose Foundation > 1x Specialization > 1x Unity > 1x Vigil: The Thin Line > 1x Vox Domini I've started replacing all my Vox Domini with Poison Pills. You're playing with enough M:OOTs that you may find you've already used an Angel when you want to play Vox or vice versa. > 10x Strike with Conviction > 6x Second Sight > 6x React with Conviction Most of your dudes have Judgment, so they can use Vigilance. You may find it quite possible to recycle a single Strike With Conviction multiple times in a turn with Edge Explosion and thus not need to have one on every minion and still be able to bleed for 2 with each guy. So, if you have more Second Sight, I'd use more of those. > 6x Vigilance > 6x Discern > 3x Rejuvinate > 1x Forsee > 1x Hide > 1x Inspire > 8x Determine > 4x On the Qui Vive On the Qui Vive is not that great a card for the imbued, IMO, but keeping at least one or two is still probably a good idea. > 2x Poison Pill > 1x Delaying Tactics > 6x Leather Jacket > 3x Improvised Flamethrower > 1x Crusader Sword > 2x The Unmasking > 2x Edge Explosion > 1x Anthelios Put in one laptop, maybe two. Seriously. Equip it out-of-turn with an Angel of Berlin on an imbued who already has a leather jacket. Another imbued (with no Jacket), takes an equip action to take both the Jacket and the Laptop, then untaps with Vigilance. He then bleeds for three with Strike With Conviction. Repeat with each imbued you control. They then untap at the end of the turn because they equipped with Leather Jackets successfully. You can even have your vampires take Jackets from your imbued to get around that pesky "a minion can have only one leather jacket" problem. The only thing your deck lacks to allow every imbued the potential to bleed for three each turn instead of two is a single laptop. You don't need to do it every turn, or every game, or even once ever. But you should probably make your deck capable of doing it, because it's pretty effective offense for the cost of one pool, and one card slot. > So my "clever" plans include using Determine to defend my pool, > building permanent defense with Unmasking, Discern, and Second Sight > (which I'd use 8 of, but apparently I only won 6...), Ah. That explains it. >bleed with Strike > with Conviction, and use my weenie vampires (2 Caitiff with no > noticable disadvnatge and a guy with conditional +1 intercept) to > generate some blood as Blood Dolls to back up the Church of Vindicated > Faith. I would recommend Thirst over Anthelios, unless players in your area will see that as heralding tons of other debilitating events. Actually, Blood Trade would likely be even better for you, as it allows you to help out crosstable, and get helped in return. > Likely not the best Imbued deck ever, but possible one that is viable. > Any ideas? And if anyone passes an Ancient Influence, your small vampire pays for itself (making it basically "free").

I like Earl, what with his +1 stealth and all, but he is expensive and he does burn a conviction every turn most of the time. Till I discovered that I only owned the 6 Second Sight. Hmm. I'll see if I can get a couple more. > No Champion? Yeah, my group tends to get quite miffed by Events that are A) debilitating to the whole table and B) require them to have to pay attention to every action they take, so for the time being, I'm going to go with the all benign Events :-) Thanks for the ideas! -Peter

It also helps deter the 2/2 KRC splits that are common in my playgroup as an effort to get things done without vote-push. Also works wonders in stopping Anarchist Uprisings. Throwing three points back at a KRC predator, or stopping the poolgain aspect of Parity Shift are also pretty handy. But you mostly have intercept and Determine to stop your predator and prey from calling votes against you too much. If that's your plan, why not just untap with Vigilance to block instead of using OtQV? I guess the timing window won't let you use Determine to cancel an action card as played, but that seems kinda cornercase, as you will probably find yourself with an untapped imbued more often than not. But since it's also playable by your vampires (and replaces immediately, with no blood cost for failing to block) that probably pushes the card as a whole into a more feasible standing here than it usually has in my decks. witness1 -believe the lie

witness1 wrote: > If that's your plan, why not just untap with Vigilance to block instead > of using OtQV? (Hmm. I thought I replied to this. If it shows up twice, that is why...) Heh. I never said it was a *good* plan :-) Really though, while On the Qui isn't the best plan ever, and I intend on using Vigilance to untap more often than not, I think 6 Vigilance is probably good enough to get one early (figuring that 22 Conviction means that I discard a lot and thin the deck out pretty quickly), and while the 4 On the Qui could just be 4 more Vigilances, the 4 On the Qui are good for: -Playing before I get Vigilance, or if someone blocks all my Vigilances. -Playing on a minion who has already used their Vigilance if I really need to block something. -Playing with the weenie vampires. In the worst case, I just cycle the on ther Qui for nothing (as the end result if I had a Vigilance is essentially the same), and in the best case, I have one early when I need it, or have one late for a vampire, or have one whenever when I have already used my Vigilance. In any case, I suspect that having 6 Vigilance and 4 On the Qui is a better option than just 10 Vigilance. -Peter

[ quoted text not captured ] Oh sure. I'm just not convinced it's significanty better than, say, 6 Vigilance, 2 OtQV and 2 more conviction. And I'm damn near certain it's not as good as 6 Vigilance, 2 OtQV and 2 Heart of Nizchetus. But I haven't yet played a deck quite like this one, so it may well be better than I think. Although I'm thinking that even 22 conviction might be too many. Maybe 20? I like having 10 of one of them to get some mileage out of Specialization, but 22 might be more than I catully need. > And I'm damn near certain it's > not as good as 6 Vigilance, 2 OtQV and 2 Heart of Nizchetus. It very rarely hurts to have too many. I've been putting at least 22 in most of my 90-card decks, and I still sometimes fail to draw as many as I'd like until I get my Heart on. > > And I'm damn near certain it's > > not as good as 6 Vigilance, 2 OtQV and 2 Heart of Nizchetus. [ quoted text not captured ] One more comment on your deck - I'd suggest dropping 1 or 2 Memories of Mortality. I know it's a really good card, but it also warps the table to drop two or more in rapid succession, and usually not in ways that are good for you. I've often had grandpreys rescue their predators backwards to get rid of a second or third Memories. Playing too many copies too soon can bring the hate as fast or faster than Gehenna events. The first one's usually fine, especially if you pick your targets wisely (nobody blames you for dropping one on Dragos or Enkidu, for example). Alternatively, some Storage Annex or Heart of Nizchetus tech to save the extra(s) for a lunge or something might be good. witness1 -believe the lie

So I took this deck for a spin tonight, and ended up winning 1 game with 3VP and tying a second game with 2VP. Granted, the first game two people were playing pretty much sealed starters (although my prey was a brutal Enkidu deck). And in the second one, I was sandwiched between two harsh intercept decks and spent the vast majority of the game doing more or less nothing till the table colapsed, two people got ousted, and then I could finally handle the only other guy at the table. But 5VP in 2 four player games isn't that bad. After all the discussion and advice, I took out Earl and replaced him with Leaf Pankowski; fit in a Champion and a Laptop Computer (and yeah, that Vigilance/Laptop/Leather Jacket plan is awsome!). The On the Quis actually were fairly useful, especially in the second game where I never got a Vigilance in to play (as they were all blocked). I think the current version of the deck looks like this: Crypt: 3x Jennie Orne (5) Inn, Jud, Vis, Get out of Hosptial cheap. 2x Jack Harmon (4) Def, Jud, Optional Manuver. 1x Leaf Pankowski (4) Inn, Vis, Get extra conviction. Library: 6x Angel of Berlin 4x Memories of Mortality 2x Church of Vindicated Faith 2x Blood Doll 1x Fortschritt Library 1x Rose Foundation 1x Specialization 1x Channel X 10x Strike with Conviction 6x Second Sight 6x React with Conviction 6x Vigilance 6x Discern 3x Rejuvinate 1x Forsee 1x Hide 1x Inspire 1x Champion 8x Determine 4x On the Qui Vive 2x Poison Pill 1x Delaying Tactics 6x Leather Jacket 3x Improvised Flamethrower 1x Crusader Sword 1x Laptop 2x The Unmasking 2x Edge Explosion 1x Anthelios -Peter

Isn't it though? Here's the next step: work in a Frontal Assault and you can do the same dance, but with a single Crusader Sword or Improvised Flamethrower instead of the Laptop. It's obviously not the best combat package in the world, but by the time you're tooled up, you may have a good idea of whether your prey can handle it. You could also pass any number of Flak Jackets, IR Goggles, and even a Hawg along with the weapon, assuming you've managed to tool up. > The On the Quis > actually were fairly useful, especially in the second game where I > never got a Vigilance in to play (as they were all blocked).
