Salutations All... I wandered over to the JOL site, and examined the playtest cards. Interesting idea. Making Followers of Set playable in a competitive environment. Wonder why WotC did think of this? Anyrate, wanted to add my 0.02, A serpentis card that fits with the clan concept. Here goes: Boon of the Serpent Action Follower of Set only 1 blood Inf: Play this card on a vampire in another Methuselahs Inactive region. When you play this card, put one pool from your blood pool on that vampire. When this vampire comes into play, it has -1 intercept versus actions by any follower of set. Sup: As above, but any Follower may burn this card in reaction to an attempted block by this minion. This minion remains tapped, but the action proceeds as if unblocked. Flavour text: /"You don't want their kind of help" - Isabel de Leon, Toreador./ Rationale: A powerful card, but fits in well with the corruptive natures of the FoS. A card, an action, a pool, and a blood:perhaps too high a cost. Comments? Responses? Flames? Anything? remove standard spamblock phrase to reply. (note: would someone email if this arives? not sure I'm getting through...)

In article <33A8C5...@novanet.GOAWAYSPAM.net.au>, Andrew Grichting <dun...@novanet.com.au> writes [ quoted text not captured ] It might be a powerful card (I don't think so) but you just wouldn't bring the vampire out so you'd have wasted an action, a card in your library and given your opponent blood to pull back from that vampire. However, if you can come up with good cards for Setites, post them because they and most of the non-Camarilla vampires really need some boosting because they have many fewer cards in their 'special' disciplines (Quietus, Serpentis) so it's not really practical to make a deck based round them. A game I heard a report of (5 player) in a shop recently went basically - "The Assamite deck went down first, then the Setite deck". It's very difficult to make a deck with them - too few vamps, too few cards to use, obscure discipline combinations.... any help? -- James Coupe "It's not easy having a good time - even smilimg makes my face ache"

The only cards that make them worth using are Corruption (I think that is the name, you can tell how much I've used them) and the card that gives anyone + to hand damage and a press. Some other cards work well but it is difficult to match them with anouther clan (Toreador and Tremere I think work the best) and they are definately lacking something. The Assimites however are a great clan. They could use some new cards but I put together an Assimite deck that regularly wins games of 2 - 5 people. I really haven't tried it against larger groups. There only problem is that they totally lack intersept which I make up for with locations, bikes, ect. As for not enough vamps, I totally agree but just take you eight favorite and throw in four Catifs for bulk. If anyone wants to see the deck I would be happy to post it. Kevin Kelly

Yep, just your standard Stealth/Bleed deck works best with the Setites. Unfortunately, you lose all the neat ambiance of playing the great clan of corruption when they're reduced to this. Thats how I used them at first too (and put them away as a 'stupid stealth bleed' deck). However, now that I have traded heavily to gather 16 corruption cards and 3 temptations they work quite well. I use embraces to enable large volleys of coruption cards to be used if I can get them. The big drawback to corruption is that it can only be used on minions of your prey, and what I tend to find happens is that I only have a stolen vampire for 1 or 2 turns before the added muscle allows me to oust them, whereupon I lose the stolen vamp(s). The trick is to keep the deck size down, I use about 65 cards, with 8 majesty, to keep the turnover of corruption cards high. Good Corruptin' James B.

However, I don't believe that the Setites are that bad. Sure, Surpentis sucks, but Obfuscate and Presence is an awesome combo. You can play a vote deck that can actually make it to court. I put together one deck that used lost in crowds and forgotten labyrinth to get your vote to court, then awe and bewithching oration to pass my votes. I also put in voter captivations to refil my minions after using awe. While my group frowns on "Stealth-Bleed" putting in a legendary vampite or two can do wonders for your vote and bleed abilites. You can use the Elysium and majesty for those pesky combat decks. And throw in some command of the Harpies to grab a vote lock. The best thing about this deck is your ability to pass votes in a heavily political environment (Via awe and bewithching oration). You also have good political defense as two of your voters, Kephamos and Amisa, are not princes (although they both have two votes) and therefore can't lose their title via Command of the Harpies. Finally, you can throw in some Corruption, which works quite well against weenie decks (be sure to use after Deter Kliest has been declared Toriador Justicar). The worst thing about this deck is its weak intercept and combat abilities. If you try this concept, make sure that you throw in some Dramatic Upheavals. Also, MoS's have poor dicipline ability, so you must throw in Obfuscate and Presence cards. A game I heard a report of (5 player) in a shop >recently went basically - "The Assamite deck went down first, then the >Setite deck". It's very difficult to make a deck with them - too few >vamps, too few cards to use, obscure discipline combinations.... any >help? > >-- >James Coupe > You may have a point with the Setites, but Assamites kick major butt. Obfuscate gets them the weapons (READ: Bang Nakh-Tiger's Claws) and Celerity turns them into Vampiric Blenders. Quietus is a great dicipline. Cards like Taste of Death and Disease turn them into combat monsters. Their special clan cards are also excellent: Market Square is great (+1 intercept on tap) and Kali's Fang (Unique Weapon 2 aggraviated damage) is grotesque. Assimite Vampires also have high dicipline efficientcy: Abd has two superiors and a reqular for five blood and Kalinda has two superiors and a good power for six. Finally, two of the high point Assamites have amazing powers. Thetmes' hand damage is all aggrevated (and he has superior celerity!!) and Al-Ashrad can make a direct action to burn Camarilla clan locations (and he has obfuscate!!). I have seen a number of games dominated by Assimites and I have seen them squish Gangrel and Brujah combat decks. Try some of these cards and combos and I think you'll agree the Assimites make for a very playable deck. By the way, my group and the other local play group, both play with a four of any one card limit. Just wondering how many others play with such a restriction? Also, if you live in the Albany, NY area give me a write - we are always looking for new players. -Happy Manipulations Tony Amat...@ix.netcom.com

Temptation. And Form of Corruption is a real pain in the butt too. I've built a winning deck around Temptations and it is a heap of fun to play. I won the JOL beta game with it and would have won JOL 29 if the table had not ganged up on me (I still got 2 VP though).

Thanx to everyone for the constructive comments. I have made a few revisions to the card concepts following a few suggestions. The most common problem identified was that the victim methuselah could simply take all blood of the card and leave the vampire uncontrolled. Fix= add brainwash effect for transfers _from_ this vampire to this card. The other problem noted was that other FoS Methuselahs could take advantage of the card. Fix= You are working wiht a clan full of deception and betrayal. Live with it. Revised text. Boon of the Serpent Action Follower of Set only 1 blood Inf: Play this card on a vampire in another Methuselahs Inactive region. When you play this card, put one pool from your blood pool on that vampire. When this vampire comes into play, it has -1 intercept versus actions by any follower of set. Transfers may no longer be made from this vampire. Sup: As above, but any Follower may burn this card in reaction to an attempted block by this minion. This minion remains tapped, but the action proceeds as if unblocked. Flavour text: /"You don't want their kind of help" - Isabel de Leon, Toreador./ Anyother comments? Soon I'll start proxying it and using in a local playgroup to test gameplay. Anyone else who wants to do the same is more than welcome to, of course I'd like to hear any suggestions relating to playtests. Remove standard spamblock phrase to reply.

Should be "You can no longer use transfers to move blood from this vampire to your pool". Also, does the acting minion have to be a Follower of Set, or can any Follower of Set burn the card for the acting minion? If the latter, does the Follower of Set have to be controlled by the controller of the acting minion? -- L. If the latter, > does the Follower of Set have to be controlled by the controller of > the acting minion? These aren't things I had considered. Hmmmm. For balance, I'd say the acting minion should be a follower. But considering its a playtest card, we could try both ways. If the acting minion doesn't have to be a Follower of Set, I would say the acting minion doesn't have to be controlled by the controlling (FoS) methuselah. This fits in with the RP idea that the card came from. I'd like to make it that if so, this card would be transfered to the new acting minion, but that is probably too complex. Thanks for the input. Revision revised :) Boon of the Serpent Action Follower of Set only 1 blood Inf: Play this card on a vampire in another Methuselahs Inactive region. When you play this card, put one pool from your blood pool on that vampire. When this vampire comes into play, it has -1 intercept versus actions by any follower of set. The controlling methuselah can no longer use transfers to move blood from this vampire to their pool". Sup: As above, but any Follower may burn this card in response to an attempted block by this minion. This minion remains tapped, but the action proceeds as if unblocked. possible addition: If this card is burned by a Follower of Set for an acting minion not controlled by another methuselah, instead of burning this card, place it on that acting minion. comments? It looks like this card is reasonably well received. I'll have to think about writing another one or two. Thanks to everybody who helped with suggestions.

[ quoted text not captured ] Yes, I noticed that after I posted it too :(. I thought that it should be serpentis initially, but maybe it should be presence instead? That is, a FoS only presence card?

Here's a couple of quick ideas for the Serpentis skill Name: Loss of Reason Action, Serpentis, 1 blood inferior: Chose an untapped minion controlled by a methuselah other than your prey. Tap that minion and that minion is now bleeding your prey. You may play action modifier and combat cards as if that minion were controlled by you. superior: as above but this action is at +1 stealth. Name: Hypnotic Trance Combat, Serpentis inferior: Play after range is chosen. Only usable at close range. The opposing minion may not strike during the first strike of this round. The opposing minion may chose to burn 1 blood to cancel the play of this card. Only one Hypnotic trance may be played each round. superior: as above but the opposing minion must burn 2 blood to cancel the play of this card.

Misdirection costs 1 to tap a vampire after all, you should have to pay more to take control of the vampire and force it to bleed. Like the idea but it should cost at least 2 blood, or have a targeting restriction. (maybe only minions that have corruption or temptation counters on them???) > Name: Hypnotic Trance > Combat, Serpentis > > inferior: Play after range is chosen. Only usable at close > range. Don't know about this one, I thought people were trying to steer clear of "denial" type cards, this one smacks of denial to me. The only cards that come close to this are hidden lurker and fast reaction, and both of these require two minions to use. -- Cheers, Karl Time flys like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana.
