Tournament Report for Praxis Seizure: Elko, Nevada April 27, 2002

A total of 13 Methuselah?s gathered for the first ever V:TES tournament
in Elko, Nevada on April 27. We even had two complete newbies join us
for the afternoon, and they each managed to obtain 1.5 VP! Congrats to
Bill and Shawna for learning the game so quickly.
After the initial 3 rounds, the standings were as follows:
Mike Sanderson ? Malkavians (stealth and bleed) ? 3 GW and 12 VP
Brian Iverson ? Evil Rat Worshippers (Army of rats and Cryptic Missions)
? 2 GW and 8.5 VP
Matt Leahy ? Followers of Set (Corruption) ? 1 GW and 7 VP
Elton De Leon ? Followers of Set (Corruption) ? 2 VP
Nelson Pearson ? Ventrue (voters) ? 2 VP
Everyone wanted to be Nelson?s prey, since he didn?t bleed his prey,
just voted him to death. Nelson was my biggest concern though, because
he had several Anarchist Uprising cards in that deck. He had me down to
3 pool in one round just before I ousted my prey on my turn. I should
have thought about that and been his predator instead of his prey as
Mike choose to sit between us and became my predator. I knew Mike?s deck
well, and he could easily oust me if I gave him half a chance. He had
swept all three initial rounds but he had not faced my Evil Rat
Worshippers in any of those rounds either. Interesting how 2 of the four
Settite decks made it to the finals. One of the initial rounds I was in
actually had 3 Settite decks competing against each other.
Final round seating:
Elton -> Nelson -> Mike -> Brian -> Matt
After 16 rounds, the game timed out at the 2 hour mark. Matt won with
1.5 VP as he had managed to oust Elton. I decided to give a round by
round report of the final. So be warned the rest of this report is very
long. Matt?s winning deck is posted at the end of this report.
1st Round
Elton starts with a Short Term Investment. Nelson and Mike just
influence. I started off with Anarch Troublemaker and then bring
Magdelena Shaefer and Heinrick Schlempt into play. Matt also starts off
with a Short Term Investment and brings Nepata into play.
2nd Round
Elton influences out Hadrian Garrick. Nelson plays The Barrens and
brings out Ranjan Rishi. Mike has 7 blood on one vampire so far. I put
out The Parthenon, Heinrick recruits a Rafastio Ghoul, Magdelena tries
to bleed Matt, who blocks with Nepata. Magdelena strikes with a Burst of
Sunlight but Nepata dodges with Staredown. (I just noticed the first
mistake here. Magdelena should have went to torpor but didn?t.) I then
influence out Vliam Andor and Navar McClaren. Matt makes Nepata his
Blood Doll and she then attempts to bleed Elton. Hadrian blocks and
Nepata is happy to Venenation him. Nepata then ends combat with
Catatonic Fear. Matt finishes his turn by bringing Lalitha into play.
3rd Round
Elton gains the edge when he bleeds Nelson with Hadrian for 1 pool as
Ranjan decides to not block. Nelson decided he liked my Parthenon and
Ranjan used Disputed Territory to take it. Nelson brings out Violette
Prentiss. Finally Mike brings out his first vampire, Leandro, of the
Inner Circle! I use Tribute to the Master and gain 4 pool from my
vampires. Navar tries to go hunting but Leandro blocks using Spirit?s
Touch. They exchange blows and Navar goes to torpor. This greatly incurs
the wrath of Navar?s fellow Evil Rat Worshippers and they go to work on
Leandro. Magdelena, Heinrick, and the Rafastio Ghoul all Cryptic Mission
Leandro and drain 3 blood from him. Vliam recruits another Rafastio
Ghoul. Matt pays his one pool to influence, (Leandro is ready). He then
puts The Rumor Mill, Tabloid Newspaper into play. Nepata uses Media
Influence to bleed Elton for 3 pool, and takes the Edge from him. Matt
brings out Celine Chevalier.
4th Round
Elton uses up the last of his Short Term Investment and pays 1 pool to
influence. Hadrian decides to defend and Elton brings an Aabbt Kindred
into play. Nelson gives Violette some Fortitude, who then declares
herself the Prince of Berlin. Nelson continues to use the Barrens to
cycle his hand. Mike puts Blood Doll on Leandro who then attempts to
bleed me for 5 pool using Govern the Unaligned. Rafastio Ghoul attempts
to block but Leandro uses Faceless Night for +1 stealth. In a hastily
negotiated agreement, Matt attempts to give my Rafastio +1 intercept
with the Rumor Mill. (Matt wanted me as a buffer between him and Mike
for as long as possible). Since Rafastio isn?t a vampire though, Rumor
Mill wouldn?t work. Leandro then threw in a Bonding and bled me for 6
pool! Now Mike has the Edge. I make Magdelena into a Blood Doll and she
replenishes her blood by stealing one from Leandro with Cryptic Mission.
Vliam summons the first Army of Rats! Yeaahh! Heinrick then sends the
rats over to bite Leandro (Cryptic Mission). Matt uses Tribute to the
Master to gain some pool. Celine, Nepata, and Lalitha all work over
Hadrian and his Corruption is complete as he is now under Matt?s
control. Hadrian then taps the Aabbt Kindred using Blackmail. (card
cycling?)
5th Round
Elton pays 1 pool to influence (Leandro still ready) and brings out
Nefertiti. Nelson Protects his Resources then uses Violette to call a
Domain Challenge (lose 1 pool for each tapped minion), which hurts Matt
and I the most. Nelson uses the Barrens to find more cards that will
hurt me! Those damn Ventrue! Mike gains 2 pool, the Edge and Blood Doll.
Leandro attempts to Dominate Kine and bleed me for another 4 pool.
Rafastio attempts to block. (Here is where another screw up happens I
notice) Matt again gives Rafastio +1 intercept. (How did we all forget
since last round that a Ghoul is not a vampire and is not eligible to
receive intercept from Rumor Mill?) Leandro and Rafastio exchange blows
and Leandro goes to torpor as he had no blood left on him. Mike finishes
by bringing Ozmo into play. For my turn, I put Society of Leopold on
Leandro in insure that he dies. Vliam summons more Army of Rats, and
Magdelena and Heinrick both have the rats bite Ozmo (Cryptic Mission).
One Rafastio recruits Talaq, the Immortal, while the other Rafastio
bleeds Matt for 1 pool. I get the Edge for the first time! Matt puts out
the Opium Den, then has Hadrian try to bleed Elton using Legal
Manipulations. Aabbt Kindred blocks and Hadrian is the only one to get
hurt since Aabbt has tough skin. Lalitha and Celine both start the
Corruption of Nefertiti.
6th Round
Elton plays London Evening Star, Tabloid Newspaper and has Nefertiti
begin the corruption of Violette. Nelson starts out by having Violette
call Conservative Agitation. Elton?s Aabbt decides to block via the
London Star and Violette plays Majesty to end combat and untaps. Ranjan
attempts to bleed Mike but Ozmo Telepathically Misdirects the bleed to
me. Talaq blocks, maneuvers to long range and shoots Ozmo for 1 damage.
Violette tries another vote, and successfully calls for a Consanguineous
Boon for all Ventrue. The Society of Leopold does it?s job and kills
Leandro. (many cheers went up!) Mike then has Ozmo bleed me for 2 pool
and takes my Edge, dang it! I retaliate on my turn by informing Ozmo he
now has a Vampiric Disease. That?ll teach him to bite me. Magdelena and
Heinrick have the rats bite Ozmo for 2 more damage. Rafastio #1 sends
the rats to bite Celine, while Rafastio #2 holds up my end of the
bargain with Matt and has the rats bite Nefertiti. Vliam really likes
rats so he summons a third army of them, just in case the other two get
killed off. Matt places a Blood Doll on Celine and gives her one of his
pool so she doesn?t have to hunt. Lalitha attempts to bleed Elton but
Aabbt blocks. Celine, Hadrian and Nepata bleed Elton down to 2 pool.
7th Round
Elton buys some time by Minion Tapping Nefertiti, then he brings out
Hesha Ruhadze. Nelson has Ranjan call for Conservative Agitation which
the Aabbt Kindred blocks with help from Matt?s Rumor Mill. Ranjan ends
combat with Majesty and untaps. Violette successfully calls Kine
Resources Contested and Mike and Brian lose 2 pool. Ranjan then uses Far
Mastery to steal Talaq, the Immortal from me. Mike brings out Dr. Jest.
I start out by making Vliam into a Blood Doll, who then has to hunt.
Heinrick also hunts. Rafastio bleeds Matt for one and Magdelena has the
rats (Cryptic Mission) bite Dr. Jest for one. Matt continues his
Corruption of Elton?s vampires. Celine and Nepata put two counters on
Aabbt but Lalitha is blocked by Hesha using the London Star. Hadrian
tries to bleed but Nefertiti blocks. Hadrian uses Venenation on
Nefertiti who ends combat by giving Hadrian a Staredown.
8th Round
Elton uses Hesha to Corrupt Violette. Nelson has Ranjan call
Conservative Agitation again, and this time is works as Mike and I
suffer. Violette successfully calls a Consanguineous Boon. Mike tries to
Minion Tap Dr. Jest but Nelson Suddenly Reverses the Minion Tap. I
wanted Dr. Jest to have no blood so I Sudden Reversal Nelson?s Sudden
Reversal much to everyone?s surprise and Mike gains several pool from
Jest. Dr. Jest then Governs the Unaligned and bleeds me for 3. I use my
Anarch Troublemaker on Matt, then play Antediluvian Awakening as
Magdelena and Rafastio #1 have the rats bite Ozmo and Jest. Rafastio #2
bleeds Matt and Heinrick rescues Navar from torpor. Vliam hunts. Matt
uses Anarch Troublemaker to tap out Elton?s defenders. Celine, Lalitha,
and Nepata bleed Elton out of the game. Hadrian starts Corrupting
Violette.
9th Round
Ranjan declares himself the Prince of Geneva. Violette calls for another
Consanguineous Boon. Mike is helpless against the Rat deck and Ozmo and
Jest both must hunt. Navar becomes my 3rd Blood Doll. Rafastio bleeds
Matt but Nepata blocks. Rafastio happily sends Nepata to torpor with a
Burst of Sunlight. Magdelena and the other Rafastio continue to work
over Ozmo and Jest with the rats. Vliam and Navar hunt. Celine rescues
Nepata from torpor. Hadrian tries to Socially Charm Nelson but Ranjan
Forcefully Awakens and Deflects the bleed to Mike. Ozmo Wakes with
Evenings Freshness and Telepathically Counters the bleed.
10th Round
Nelson gets Jake Washington into play. Violette calls for Rabble Razing
which would kill off all of my and Matt?s vampires. Nepata Forcefully
Awakens and blocks Violette via the Rumor Mill. Violette simply ends
combat and untaps with her Majesty. Violette then decides to become an
Archon. Mike decides to hold a Malkavian Auction and sells Dr. Jest to
Matt for 3 pool. Matt then burns Dr. Jest to get rid of the Antediluvian
Awakening. Magdelena sends the rats to Ozmo and Rafastio sends them to
bite Ranjan. The other Rafastio bleeds Matt. Navar, Vliam and Heinrick
hunt. Lalitha and Celine complete the Corruption of Violette and she
goes to work for Matt. Hadrian attempts to Enchant Kindred on Nelson but
Ranjan Wakes and Deflects it to Mike. Ozmo Wakes and blocks. Hadrian
tries to get Swallowed by the Night but Ozmo uses Spirit?s Touch to find
him. Hadrian puts a corruption counter on Ozmo with Venenation then ends
combat with a Staredown.
11th Round
Ranjan eats Jake Washington to bring his blood back up to full. Nelson
then tries a Hostile Takeover on Violette. Matt ends up paying 6 pool to
keep her. Ranjan calls a Consanguineous Condemnation which taps all
Malkavians even though Ozmo is already tapped. (card cycling?) Mike puts
the Rack on Ozmo and breathes a sigh of relief since Ozmo can now do
something other than just hunt. Magdelena takes Ozmo?s one blood anyway.
Rafastio keeps bugging Ranjan with the rats. Vliam, Navar, and Heinrick
hunt again. (think they?re getting bored yet?) Matt finishes off the
round by having Lalitha Corrupt Ranjan.
12th Round
Ranjan tries to call Anarchist Uprising (which would do 6 to me and 5 to
Matt). So, Heinrick blocks using Matt?s Rumor Mill and Ranjan ends
combat and untaps with Majesty. Mike Minion Taps Ozmo for 1 pool,
leaving 1 for Magdelena to steal. I hire Smiling Jack, the Anarch, and
much moaning issues forth around the table. Both Rafastio Ghouls bleed
Matt but Nepata and Lalitha block them. Vliam and Navar hunt. Violette
bleeds Nelson. Hadrian quickly kills Smiling Jack.
13th Round
Ranjan calls for Consanguineous Boon for Followers of Set to thank Matt
for killing Smiling Jack. He then throws in a Voter Captivation to gain
some blood and 2 pool. Mike puts a Blood Doll on Ozmo. I start another
Antediluvian Awakening. Magdelena steals a blood from Ozmo (Cryptic
Mission still). Both Rafastio?s and Heinrick launch a full scale assault
on Matt (time is running short). Nepata, Lalitha, and Violette all
block. Matt burns Violette before his turn begins to get rid of the
Antediluvian Awakening. He then calls for a Tribute to the Master and
gains some pool back.
14th Round
Ranjan calls for Ancilla Empowerment using Bewitching Oration. Ouch to
Matt and I! Mike plays Madness Network. Matt takes his 10th point of
damage from my Army of Rats! I make Heinrick into my 4th Blood Doll.
Both Rafastios bleed Matt and Hadrian and Celine block. (Matt has been
avoiding combat with the Rafastios using Staredown and Catatonic Fear
for fear of Burst of Sunlight which I haven?t had). Magdelena, Vliam,
Navar, and Heinrick all hunt. Matt has Nepata Enchant Kindred on Nelson
while Lalitha Corrupts Ranjan some more.
15th Round
Nelson starts a Short Term Investment. Mike Minion Taps Ozmo who then
bleeds me by getting Lost in Crowds. Magdelena is surprised by Ozmo when
she tries to steal his blood again! Ozmo Wakes and uses Behind You to
avoid combat. Both Rafastios attempt to bleed Matt again and growing
tired of their presence, Hadrian and Celine kill them both. Matt call
another Tribute and Nepata Social Charms Nelson.
16th and Final Round as time runs out Nelson puts out his Anarch
Troublemaker and Ranjan calls for Consanguineous Boon with Bewitching
Oration. Mike Minion Taps Ozmo.
ALARM GOES OFF.
