Okay, Thetmes the Assamite plays Death of My Conscience to give him 5 aggro hand damage. He then plays a Blur, for two additional strikes. His opponent is a capacity-10 vampire, and doesn't prevent any damage. What happens? -- joeg...@umich.edu * I am nothing special, nothing pure. I am mud and flame.

The opponent takes 5 aggro damage and immediately goes to torpor. You don't even get to play the blur. --Judy -- <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Judith Grunberger * jcoo...@glue.umd.edu http://www.glue.umd.edu/~jcookson "I'll have a twist of lemon"

When the 10-cap goes to torpor (after the initial strike), combat is over. Here's how it breaks down: Combat Play any "before range" cards... Maneuver... Choose strikes (one strike per combatant) Resolve strikes Gain additional strikes. For each additional strike: Choose strikes (one strike for each opponent who has available strikes). Resolve strike. Loop until neither opponent has any available strikes. Press (and/or press-step effects) If at any point of the above process one of the minions is no longer ready (has been sent to torpor or burned), then combat ends at that point (allowing for end-of-round effects like Pulled Fangs, Amaranth, etc.) -- L. When a vampire goes to topor combat can not continue, Thetmas will never get a chance to even play his blur. Even if a vampire is entitled to an additional strike without having to play the blur, combat is over when one of the vampires goes to topor. That is why many shrewd combat deck players will deal normal damage on the first and possibly second strike and end up with an aggravated strike which will burn the opposing vampire. In your example, if Thetmas had owned a bastard sword, he could have struck for 6 normal points of damage the first strike, played his blur, and then struck for 5 points of aggravated damage using his hand strike on the second strike and burned his opponent. Again, had he chosen the bastard sword for his second strike there would have been no third strike as 12 points of normal dmage would have sent the vampire to topor.

As soon as (say) Democritus gets hit with the first batch, he's in torpor (or burned if he had less than 5 blood), and combat ends before you get the chance to play additional strikes. J.
