This came up tonight: If you play Disarming Presence as one of the modifiers to a vote, can tapped vampires vote? It is my position that yes, they can. It's just that any untapped vampires that votes, become tapped as well. It was argued that because a vampire gets tapped as the result of voting, that any tapped vampires could not vote. Which is correct? Sorrow

[ quoted text not captured ] You are correct. Tapping is a side effect of voting (under Disarming Presense). It is not a cost. -- L. Scott Johnson (vte...@regency.wizards.com) Official VtES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. (*) - Subject to review by Rules Team

Otherwise, no vote-gaining action modifiers can be played - like Awe and Bewitching Oration, because the vampire gaining the votes is tapped. Well, I suppose Alexandra or some other strangely timed effect could untap the vampire, but that'd be some ugly game mechanics. dh

[ quoted text not captured ] A quick note on this. Once the vampire votes, it is tapped and cannot play any reaction cards (like surprise influence, dread gaze, Kindred Coercion, etc). This came up in a game where we played it and a vamp called a vote. Someone else playing a prince deck cast all his votes (4). The vote caller played Bewitching Oration (vote stands at 7 to 4), although the other vote deck had Kindred Coercion he was stuck and could not play the card with all his vamps tapped. (He had planned to trump it and then hit with a Political Backlash, another unuseable card with tapped vamps). Unfortunately, I was neither the vote caller, but I learned a valuable lesson that day about Disarming Presence. Chance Chance "If you think you can, you're right.
