My google-fu was unable to scare up any rulings, so... A couple of questions regarding discounting cards played: Can the discount be applied to cards searched up from the library (e.g. Magic of the Smith/Vast Wealth/Muricia's Call)? Or in general, not played from hand? Can the discount be applied to cards played from hand via an alternate effect (e.g. Concealed Weapon/Piper)? The Shard, London Name: The Shard, London [FoL:1] Cardtype: Master Cost: 2 pool Unique location. If you have the Edge, you can lock this card to reduce the cost of a card you play by 2 pool or blood. Vampires can steal this location as a action; Ventrue get +1 stealth during that action. Artist: Felipe Headley Magic of the Smith Name: Magic of the Smith [Jyhad:R, VTES:R, CE:PTr, Third:R, KoT:R, V5:PTr2, NB:PTr1] Cardtype: Action Cost: 1 blood Discipline: Thaumaturgy +1 stealth action. [tha] Search your library for an equipment card and equip this vampire with it (requirements and cost apply as normal; shuffle afterward). [THA] As above, but this is a +3 stealth action. Artist: Jeff Menges; Andrew Trabbold Concealed Weapon Name: Concealed Weapon [Jyhad:C, CE:C/PB/PTo, BH:PTo4, KMW:PAl3, LotN:PG2, KoT:C/PT2] Cardtype: Combat Only usable before range is determined. This minion equips with a non-unique weapon card from your hand (requirements and cost apply as normal). The weapon cannot cost 3 or more pool or inflict (with a regular strike) aggravated damage or 4 or more damage. The answer is yes to both cases. In both cases the cards still use the words "equip" and "employ", which means costs are applied as normal, and discounts are applied to those costs as normal. Newer cards indeed have a reminder text saying so. The only exception I can recall to this and many other cases is Summon History, since that just "puts a card in play", which allows it to circumvent many restrictions. (and is a little bit busted for that). But that means that possible discounts aren't applied to the card that SH gets, but rather the action itself.
