Good day all, Re Jake Washington and its "uniqueness", is it possible to have controlling player play a second copy of it? Since not a "regular ally", is a player allowed to play multiple copies of Jake Washington (using e.g. Parthenon), and have the previous copy/ies leave the game, as new one entre play? Thank you

The moment the card is unique, you cannot play another copy of it. Prince of Paris, France Ratings Coordinator, Rules Director

Understood. Thank you

From the rules: (www.vekn.net/rulebook) " Playing a Card A card is played by announcing its effects, showing the card and placing it from the hand in the ash heap. Sometimes a card will state to put it into play, you should announce its effects and place the card in the play area. ADVANCED RULES Some effects can cancel a card “as it is played.” These effects, as well as wake effects, are the only effects allowed during the “as played” time period of another card. Even drawing to replace cards, comes after this time period. " " ADVANCED RULES Contested Cards Some of the cards in the game represent unique resources, such as specific locations, equipment, or people. These cards will be identified as “unique” in their card text. In addition, all crypt cards represent unique minions. If more than one unique card with the same name is brought into play, that means control of the card is being contested. For the duration of the contest, all of the contested cards are turned face down and are out of play. If another unique card with the same name is brought into play, it is immediately contested and turned face down as well. The cost to contest a card is 1 pool, which you pay during each of your unlock phases. Instead of paying the cost to contest the card, you may choose to yield the card. A yielded card is burned. Any cards or counters stacked on the yielded card are also burned. If all other cards contesting your unique card are yielded, then the card is unlocked and turned face up during your next unlock phase, ending the contest. DECK CONSTRUCTION TIP: Be careful about putting duplicates of the same unique cards in your deck. You cannot control more than one of the same unique card at a time, and you cannot contest cards with yourself (if some effect would force you to contest a card with yourself, then you simply burn the incoming copy of the unique card). On the other hand, you may wish to have a second copy handy in case the first is burned. " Player A has a Jake in play Player B plays a Jake As effect of bringing a unique card into play that's already in play, triggers the contested rules. Is this correct? IF, and this is a big IF, this is correct then let's go to the "TIP" section: Player A has Jake in play Player B plays another jake (nowhere says you cannot bring into play a Unique card you already have by the rules above) As effect of bringing a unique card into play that's already in play triggers the contested rules, but wait, you cannot contest cards with yourself so here is where the second Jake is burned upon being brought into play... but you still can play it And of curse the control part in the TIP section is never going to happen because the second card is going to burn... whatever the case. Plase rewritte the rules to make them more accurate and leave nothing to the implicit department. I'm sorry for my english, it's not my first tongue and for sure I made a lots of mistakes.

But this is not legal: "If more than one unique card with the same name is brought into play, that means control of the card is being contested." and "you cannot contest cards with yourself " forbid B from playing another copy of Jake, since B would be contesting with himself (in addition to A). You cannot play a card that leads to self contest because you are not allowed to self contest i.e. you are not allowed to do/play/trigger what you are not allowed to.

mmm sorry but in the second example is the same player A no B who brings the second Jak into play. (my mistake) Player A has Jake in play Player A brings into play Jake No where says Player A cannot play a Unique card that it's already in play. The rules only reference the efect of bringing a unique card into play when another copy of that unique card is already in play and makes a diferentiation between two posibilities: 2+ diferent players with the same unique card: Contest battle 1 same player with 2 unique cards: Burns the incoming one because you cannot trigger the contest battle. Please, my english is not so good so try to use another words to respond other than the already writen in the rulebook because as I read them nothing new comes to my mind If you cannot bring into play another copy of a Unique card you already have in play (or control of it) say so clearly in the play cards section, unique section or advanced rules for contested cards because right now I believe all (me included) have been playing wrong for a long time without really being aware

I'm not contesting because the second one is burned instead... no ilegal situation there

PS The burning when an effect forces a self contest is because of the contest and not something that happens instead.

There are a few examples of effects that could force you to contest a card with yourself, for instance Vast Wealth that equips a minion with the first equipment found in your library. It is legal to take the action because you don't know what will be the first equipment found, but if it happens to be a unique equipment you already have, then the new copy is burned. Name: Vast Wealth Cardtype: Master Put this card on a ready minion you control. If you control this minion, they can equip with the first equipment you find in your library as a +1 stealth action (working down from the top; requirements and cost apply as normal; shuffle afterward). There is still a problem here : the rule that you can't contest with yourself is written in a deckbuilding tip and not in the contest rules.
