Pascal, Will you be continuing LSJ's ruling mailing list on Yahoo? games.groups.yahoo.com/group/vtes-rules/ It hasn't had a new post in about a year, but still has 270+ interested parties...

Sure, if something happens over there, I'll find a way to answer questions that might pop. I probably need to create some Yahoo! account, but that should be easy - I hope.

We have a dead game and the last thing we need is to continue the fracturing of the player base. With respect to the people on that list, there's absolutely zero reason that they cannot come here and read what's going on and post a question if they wish. This will do absolutely nothing except unify the player base and show them a single, working, reliable place to come to for all their VTES needs, and, in the future, a higher number of users here *may* be a factor in a company republishing VTES. As long as there are people playing this game, they might have rules questions. No doubt that, with no answer to their rules questions, they'll lose interest in the game. We have a game that is almost dead, and the last thing we need is to lose what's left (players & motivation). I don't guarantee a full-time presence over there. On the other side, it would be a nice move to garner lost sheep wandering off the right and narrow, with a message such as Robert Goudie's.

The VtES rulings Yahoo was read only. Lsj would post rulings there periodically that he had made on the newsgroup or while wolf forum or IRC. It was a good resource for those not too interested in the discussions, just the outcomes. -- salem

Inform those people that rules questions will be answered here, with the added benefit of cardlists, compiled rulings/erratas etc. I'm here with Kevin, we need to get our players united in one place that is great. Which is VEKN.NET. The NG is in their dying stage right now, and BGG is ... ahem ... low traffic at best. VEKN.NET is the place where VTES lives. pckvtes.wordpress.com

I'll post Robert's messages in the Yahoo! groups once my account is properly created / set (how can sending a verification email take more than 10 min?). Of course, it will contain a link to vekn.net (I don't expect people to guess the url). And explicit wording that this is the only official VTES place. Has anyone ever posted a rule question over there?

> Pascal wrote: > Has anyone ever posted a rule question over there? > No. It is not a place for questions. It is a collection of only answers to questions. Thus the name, 'Rulings Announcement'. If you aren't archiving 'new' questions/rules in 1 specific place, then perhaps you should. That current location would be a good place, as it already has Scott's list of new rulings as they were made.

Fair enough. It will require some modifications (since messages here use bbcode tags rather than ">" for quotes), but I think I can handle it. It will have to part "cardtext" answers from tricky stuff, though. If you think something is not-so-intuitive, let me know.

That way, you don't have to do anything on the Yahoo list, if Jeff can help out by notifying the list that it's now dead and people should pay attention to this forum instead. Kevin's idea sounds like a reasonable compromise. Make all those monthly rules posts posts in the same thread, and people can just subscribe to that thread (if they can get over the hurdle of signing up here), and receive rulings updates just as if it was a read-only mailing list. Not everyone likes having to go pull information, some people like it to be pushed. And some people might like emails because they shouldn't be on gaming websites at work or whatever. -- salem
