VDB - online card search & deck building tool

Hi All, I'm pleased to announce you new online card search & deck-building tool - VDB vdb.im . It's a successor of VTES-DB , it's similar in look, but it use new engine allowing new features - most important of which is Deck Building. Features: - Combined deck building & search interface - browse & add cards to your decks on-the-fly; - Wide search options - many filters (essentials + useful e.g. set / precons / artist with traits like 'only in' and 'first printed in' for sets); - Interface which you may like (or not - Mobile-friendly. Should look nice on modern big mobile screens (may not fit entirely into smaller though); - Import/export to/from popular formats to easy migration and backup - e.g. you can paste text from TWDA/Amaranth/Lacket (or import from file) to quickly start with your decks; - Create PDF with proxies of your decks; - Updated to V5; - Open source, ad-free & privacy-respecting; Usage hints: - You will need to create account for deck building (as it stores decks on the server). No email confirmations, etc required - just name and password. You can use card search without account of course. - Hover over card name to preview image. - Click on card name to toggle preview from image to text and back (useful for lower bandwidth / easier reading). - You can edit deck in dedicated Deck tab, or (what is advised) modify it on-the-fly during card search: to do so, go to Crypt/Library search (login & create deck first) and click top-left 'Add to Deck Mode', then all cards results of you searches will have '+' button to add it to chosen deck. You can toggle this mode (as well as change 'active' deck) anytime. - On mobile cards in 'Add mode' are added to the deck selected in Deck tab (you can switch tabs without losing results/filters). - On mobile 'Magnifying glass' button on top-right corner toggle from search form to results and back. You seem to be able to search with any word you want WHICH IS NICE! Finnish Politics!

Is this available on IOS?

It is a website, so it should work in any OS with a browser and it does not require installation. I cannot test it in IOS specifically right now, but give it a try and most likely it works.

Added Card Types and Capacity filters to TWD search (card types are SLOW, but i'll try to optimize it later) with addition of Mono Clan (only decks with 1 clan) and Star Vampire (decks with 5+ copy of same vampire and 4+ if anarch convert is also in the deck). I trust it will help those interested in more in-depth analysis, including article writers. Enjoy! P.S. This tool is awesome. Massive help for getting going in the game, and the TWD are way easier to read, thank you so much! I would like to second the above request to see if it's possible for the tool to show you what cards you have available for a deck when browsing the TWD and what you are missing. Also: maybe something I am doing wrong, but it seems tricky adding a second unit of any card - if I add a first unit of a card or a second one, the visual feedback is the same, so I am not sure if that is something that can be changed to be more clear? The idea behind adding/changing cards in the inventory is (in addition to full-deck-add): 1) You add new card by the name from the field in the top. If you don't already have this card it will be added with 1 quantity. If you already have it, quantity will not change. In both cases (you have it or it newly added) card will additionally appear (to it's natural place in inventory list) on the top for the convenience (so you don't need to look for it in the long list to change quantity, see below). 2) You change card quantity clicking [-] and [+] (in main inventory list OR newly spawned card line after you just add it). Please let me know if this approach is OK. I'm already thinking how to handle big changes. Optios are: +/-5 buttons, manual quantity enter, etc, I will test how it will affect interface and introduce it later (I want to keep interface as clean as possible from barely useful items).

@smeeag - thank you for the reply! My difficulty with adding a second card is that if I am adding a second card, the name will appear at the top with quantity 1, same as the first one. So the only way for me to accurately register it is to scroll down the list to check if I have one in my inventory already. Otherwise one could keep assuming this is the first one I got, and long as they are being added one at a time, could end up never increasing the quantity. I think the way around that is to either bring up the card on the first search with 0 quantity with the option to increase it, or maybe take you down to where it already is in the inventory list? Maybe I am over-thinking it, but the rest of the app is so awesome, seems like a blemish NC, Ireland

I really like what you have done here! Would it be possible to add the possibility to directly modify the count of a card by typing in a number somewhere? After starting to add my collection I realised it's really tedious to click 20+ times on the plus button for cards I own many copies of. Prince of Bonn, Germany

@Facilier You mean if you already have X copies of the card in the inventory and you 'add' it by the name it appear at the top with 1 (not X) quantity? This should not happen like this (at least I cannot reproduce it in both my old or new account), could you try to refresh the page to refresh the cache (in case some intermediate edition stuck in the memory)? If you mean that new cards are added with quantity 1 by default, then that it planned behaviour. However, if you ALREADY have the card with any quantity, it will just appear on the top with existing quantity. So basically by adding card by the name, you cannot break your existing quantity (if you have at least 1) and if you have several, then card is already on the top to change quantity. Adding new card with 0 quantity is undesirable, as it will require additional click to just increase it to 1. P.S. 'Adding' card by the name you already have in the inventory (and are sure about it) can also be abused to quickly check quantity (without scrolling or making search in crypt/library) as it will popup on the top without any changes to quantity. @smeeag - nono, no issue with the wrong quantity being displayed, it's working exactly as intended. It's only an issue if I have a second copy of a card, think i don't have it, go to add it, it comes up on top, exactly as if I added a first copy of a card. Basically with the current Inventory system I need to remember which cards I have only one of in order to be able to take them to two, otherwise I risk staying at quantity of one because the visual queue (card appearing with the quantity of 1) is exactly the same as if I added a new card. Since the 1x cards are likely to be the more rare ones, it makes me less accurate at tracking more rare cards, which to me seems undesirable. NC, Ireland

I concur, this is working as intended, but it is an ergonomic issue. I'll try to explain it more clearly. I am entering my real-life inventory in VDB. To do so, I browse my cards manually, starting with one big pile on the left, taking the cards one by one and including them in VDB inventory, then put the card on the "done" pile on the right. In the middle of this process, I draw a Giant Blood. Maybe I have one Giant Blood in inventory but I don't remember if it is the case. My inventory is 1200 cards long. I want to add the Giant Blood I just draw. I search for it in VDB inventory, it comes up on top with quantity one. How do I know if I had one in inventory already and the one I want to enter is the second one, or if I had none in inventory and this is the first ?

@lip Thanks for the clarification, now I understand the issue. I'll think how to deal with it and will come with the solution.

While testing the Deckbuilder and Proxy tool, I found a bug: When you have an advanced vampire in the crypt, the proxy file includes the base vampire. Prince of Bonn, Germany

This was apparently a feature in the Secret Library my local prince misses, wich is why I brought it up. The Idea is, when building a deck around a certain discipline combo and/or clan, (rather then a vampire i.e.) to identify a crypt combination that has higher/lower capacities. For example, if I would like to build the lowest cap possibly Anto-Toreador deck, where do I have the lowest average capacity? not ther most important feature admittedly ^^"

@Yomael Thanks, will be fixed in next release. @Hobbesgoblin For such kind of cases (find best matching group, which is quite popular case) I recommend to set filters you like (in this partilucar case only clan, but can be extended to any other combination) and then just put capacity cap to something reasonable (i.e. <=5..7) and quickly check results per-groups on the top (TOTAL line). It makes not much sense if group has low avg capacity, but with only 2 vamps in total, compared to slightly higher but realistic outcome of 5+ vampires. However show avg. capacity for each group in the total results line sounds useful and possible will appear in the future.

@smeeag I admit, parts of this reasoning might be very specific how I build "Non-Star"-Decks General idea/suggestion: The Layout of the Deck-View is wasting a lot of screen real estate. I think something like this (epic photoshop skills! might be better.

Update with many changes: - Updated Deck page layout (more vertical space for Crypt/Library); - Updated TWD search results to show capacity/clan for crypt and discipline/clan for library cards; - Added Preconstructed decks to Deck page to choose from; - Inventory mode for not-your-decks opened in Deck page (i.e. for TWD / shared by URL / Preconstructed): Highlights in red cards you don't have enough in Inventory; Highlights in yellow cards you have in total, but it will require to take it from one of 'fixed' decks; No highlight if you have it available; - Button to show missing in inventory cards for the deck in Deck page. It respects deck/card inventory status (Flexible or Fixed) and for Virtual (@) decks and any not-yours (twd / precon / shared by url) it calculate as it's Flexible (i.e. allowing to re-use cards from other Flexible decks but NOT from Fixed); - Proxy button allow to print only missing cards (same with inventory status as above); - Card quantity manual enter (click on card quantity) in addition to [+]/[-] buttons; - Inventory page option to choose what to show: All (cards you have + cards you need) Only owned cards Only cards you have problem with (first column is still quantity you have, not 'required'); - Additional 'Copy Deck-In-URL' button which 'encode' the deck to url. Why? Because standard Copy URL works as a 'pointer' to the deck in the author's deck archive => it follows the changes (and deletion!) and even though it's OK most of the time (and maybe even desired), you may want to 'freeze' it to be sure the one following the link will ALWAYS see the deck in the state it was during URL creation. Technical details: this link contain all VDB need to render the deck (in the format ...?name=NAME&author=AUTHOR&description=DESCRIPTION#ID=QUANTITY;ID2=... where ID is card ID from official VEKN card list). So this 'deck-in-urls' does not exist (and does not require to ever be created) on the VDB server and may be easily generated by anyone (e.g. by third-party software as quick way to show the deck using VDB rendering) as well as decoded => even when VDB will stop to work it will be easy to restore the deck from the url; - Crypt searches shows avg. capacity for each group in Total line; - Card text updated to VEKN changes dated 21-01-2021; - Added Maleficia, Striga and Flight to discipline filter in Library search; - Crypt/Library search page is more centered now for unlogged users; - Fixed bug with non-ASCII letters for card search and export to Lackey; - Fixed bug with Advanced vampire proxy generation; - Fixed bug with Amaranth deck import by URL; - Fixed bug with card modal preview in Decks/Crypt/Library with inventory-mode;

Thank you for working so much an this tool and to work an an integrated cloud based solution. one thing i forgot to mention inb my alst post: could you widen the "requirements" column in the deck overview jsut a tad? Ennoia's Theater has a line break here, wich is unneded I think. This is the only card i've seen so far with this problem, other cards with multiple/alternate requirements are fine, maybe the gangren/!gangrel symbols are too wide. edit: another problem I've foudn jstu now: When looking up cards for a specific clans, you don't find cards that need one of two clans Affected cards I found so far: ennoias theather treaty of laibach jar of skin eaters derange Create Gargoyle Defender of the Haven Potio Martyrium Reindoctrination Soul of the Earth Their Master's voice (lot's of tremere/!tremere cards) This seems only be a problem for clans, not disciplines.

Another bug I just found: I cannot add cards, that are in my inventory with at least one copy, to decks, even virtual ones, in higher quanteties then there are iny my inventory. Example: I have a vampire 4 tiems in my inventory, but want to make a deck, for lackey, wich contains the vampire 5 times. I cannot do that, if i try to increase the number from 4 to 5, it goes to 1 instead. The same with Library cards. I can add, however, cards that are not in my inventory at all. this issue affects even decks that are frechly imported, and even decks already saved. I have a coiuple of imported TWDA decks now, wich completely borked card quanteties.

@Hobbesgoblin I investigate the issue ASAP. // UPDATE: fixed and all old decks must show original quantity (except quantities that were changed in between, unfortunately - see below). The last update does not mess with database (only in-browser code), so most likely your existing decks are unaffected in the database, but only representation is miscalculated in the browser. But please try to avoid touching quantity of 'broken' cards as buttons sends real change requests based on what you see (so it will be changed and if you don't remember what it originally was it will hard to restore). I apologize to everybody for the inconvenience.

If it helps in anyway, I observed the folowing: I have, for example, two sudden reversals in my inventory. Then I try to clone a TWDA deck with more then two, for example 12- When I open the deck it has now 10 suddens, and everytime i switch between "deck mode" and "inventory mode" it reduces the amount of Suddens (and all other cards i don't have enough but at least one) by two, until it matches the amount I have in my inventory. Edit to your edit: Yep, decks are restored, imported and cloned decks, wich showed wrong/capped amounts show now the original amount.

Awesome! About the 'Copy Deck-In-URL' feature, this is great, that should enable us to link all the Bibliodèque decks on the Codex to VDB. There are still a few issues: If there's a comma in the description, the description is truncated at the comma. If the description is too long, the server returns 414 Request-URI Too Large. Its length should probably be checked/constrained, or the description completely removed. It includes side crypt and library, not sure if this should not be cut (to make sure it all fits in the URL).

Another update, mainly TWD search improvements: - Added TWD search by library size; - Updated TWD search by-card-type forms (added 'none', slightly changed ranges) - Greatly increased TWD by-card-type search speed (finally, it is usable lol); - Fix library cards clan search for double-clan (see Hobbesgoblin report above);

Thanks for a great tool....i use it a lot and i really enjoy it. I have noticed that rulings don´t always show up...i assume you are using lip´s rulings db and if so it should show as they are there...might be a problem on lip´s side i dont know.. when looking at Abbot it doesnt show any rulings and there is one when looking at .44 Magnum it doesnt show any rulings and there are two when looking at Abandoning the Flesh it doesnt show any rulings and there are two (weirdly in Amaranth it only shows one of the two...not your issue) when looking at FBI Special Affairs Division it doesnt show any rulings and there are three when looking at Extortion it does show the one ruling that is there Side note perhaps something could be done to make it look a bit better when there is a lot of text so that it doesn't create the black space below the card ..don't have any good suggestion unfortunately images Extortion .44 Magnum

Thank you for the fantastic changes! The second card to inventory solution came out hella elegant, with no need for sacrifice on the convenience side for the first card. Is there a non-bitcoin way to donate? Like this site is directly adding value to my cards by making them more usable. NC, Ireland

More bugs I found: Ondine 'Boudicca' Sinclair is not recognized from a lackey text import, probably due to the Apostrophes. (wich lackes uses instead of quotation marks) So is Channel 10, though I have no idea why. Also a "legality check" on crypt and library size would be nice (Crypt smaller then 12 library outside 60-90)

Used VDB first time on my tablet and encountered several problems: The deck is on top of the search. While there is "hide deck" button, it is quite hidden. I'd suggest to only show the deck if in "Add-To-Deck" mode do begin with The search results are above the search bar, wich is quite confusing. M suffestions would be to make a xollapsible box for all tilter options, and show the search results below the search bar and filters a specifig problem for Stylus tablets: ma Tablet has a curser at the point where the stylus is hovering. This can triger the "mosue over prewview" of cards, wich then appears besides the resultbox, wich in turn can resize the whole page. Also sometiems it happens, that the site ges stuck where every fraction of second the preview box gets loaded and unladed continously resizing the page, wich is highly irritating. My sugegstions ould simply be to disable the hover preview on mobile.

Another update: - Added quick card view page (vdb.smeea.casa/cards) where you can quick check the card by it's name. - Show all search results in Crypt/Library in Inventory-mode, but added option to hide results not in inventory; - Improved search by Precons (there is still some issues with First Print / Only In searches for reprinted bundles (HttB, KoT and Anthlogy); - Improved TWD Capacity search speed and it uses 4 brackets (like for Groups). Anarch Convert is excluded from Capacity calculation. - Fixed Inventory 'Show only problem cards' bug; - Fixed Lackey export; - Small other barely noticable fixes/improvements (thanks all for reports); @Hobbesgoblin VDB is not yet optimized for Tablet. This is on the roadmap though. @Facilier I don't rely on donations (otherwise more convenient ways except BTC would be provided), so don't worry. Best contribution to VDB future is to use it, report the bugs, gives proposals.

Another update: - Added new feature - deck revisions - Added rulings from krcg (many more rulings with links to origin) - many thanks to @lip who is doing great job maintaining rulings archive - Card text updated to 2021-03-06 - TWD decks updated; - Many bug fixes (thanks all for feedback, it's invaluable!) Deck revisions description: For each your deck it's possible to create 'revisions', which are decks hidden from main deck select box, but can be selected from revision selection box (will spawn next to deck selection box after you create first revision). Revisions share author/name between each other, but cards/descriptions are different. Each revision has it's unique url and you can share them separately from each other (without giving access to other revisions of the deck). Deleting of the deck delete all revisions. Cloning from revision create separate deck (which can has its own revisions, of course), same as cloning any other deck. Inventory status for each revision is different and has impact on calculation of required cards, you have to manage it by yourself for now (i.e. let unused revisions have virtual (@) status and only set 'main' to required inventory status). Later I'll figure out how to optimize it.

Hell for Leather is not correctly exported to a lackey deckfile by name, as I just realiszed the hard way.

Another update: - Deck draw now let 'play' cards by clicking on them (instead of card view) - Much faster TWD clan search - Forms in Add New Card (/decks) and Quick card search (/cards) now also search by initials i.e. new words can start from part of given string (thanks to Vincent Ripoll). Examples: Following searches will match 'Govern the Unaligned': - gtu - gtuna - theunal Following searches will not match 'Govern the Unaligned': - gtd - galigned - thealigned - Add-Mode switch removed from Navbar, but instead Add-Mode follow show/hide deck in Crypt and Library search (eye-icon next to deck name) - Improvements in floating buttons on mobile - Fixed Lackey export bug for cards with '-' in name (AK-47, Hell-for-Leather, etc) - Fixed exports for Deck-In-Url - Other tiny fixes

Playing around with the new "play" function. When I "play" all vampires in to uncontrolled region it says "NOT ENOUGH CRYPT CARDS TO DRAW", despite there being still vampires in the crypt.

Another update: - Deck-ID now attaches to url in url bar (same url as you got after clicking 'Copy URL' button, so all old links must continue to work and existing url in url bar is shareable now); - Card scans from different sets done by vtes.pl team. Click on the Set name in card detailed popup window (yeah, I know it's barely discoverable, so consider it hidden feature for now, later I'll improve it); - Added clan icons for Precon deck selector - Deck select (for My and Precon decks) now support live text filter (same as for Clan in Crypt/Library search); - Revision name now attaches to Deck name for Export; - Fixed Crypt/Library search not showing cards matching text after toggling off other filters; - Fixed Deck Draw bug (incorrect message preventing from redraw); - Other minor fixes/improvements I forgot about? Is there somewhere an explanation, what exactly the percentages in the "simulated hand" represent? I think it is the chance of getting that specific card in the current hand size/crypt size. Also a suggestion: I think it would be a nice idea to display the odds of drawing a certain card in the opening hand/crypt directly adjacent to the card in the deck overview. This is of course almost identical to what is currently displayed in the "simulated hand", but with the, in my opnion, importend difference that you can see it for every card at once, and not onyl for those that actually randomly landed in your opeing hand/crypt in the simulation.

Chance to draw the card if you hand is still in the deck (and you hand size is equal to what you have at given moment), but discarded cards are not in the deck. So it's not a chance to draw additional card to existing hand, but chance to draw the hand in the first place. Chances are for 1 pc only, hover over chance if you want to see for 2+. For the suggestion, I will test how it will looks like. Not sure I can fit it nicely to draw window (it does not go into main deck window anyway as it's not that important).

First of: I find it really great how much you work on the tool! secondly: I have a feature suggestion, I came across while talking with some players in my "local" lackey group: It came up when talking about vdb, that it would/could be useful to combine several filters from the same category with one another, ideally with a switchable and/or button. This would be probably most useful for disciplines in library cards (like looking at all combat cards that a certain vampire could play, isntead of switching the disciplines) Or for looking at several clans oat once, i.E. a clan and their antitribus. Also a couple of things that I noticed: +1 bleed trait also finds +2 bleed vampires, same with +1 strength. Maybe this is intended, but I just notoiced. And I think it could be useful to have filters like "Any titled" and "any <sect> title", or to tag those cards for any applicable title so their are found as cards that theese titles fulfill the requirements, without being explicitly listed. Affected cards I found would be: Card List Anarch Secession Cheval de Bataille Hand Intervention Liberty Club Intrigue National Guard Support Papillon Persona Non Grata Priority Shift Public Vilification Red List Reinforcements Rubicon Scourge Templar Trumped-Up Charges Under Siege

Mouseover card images at the very bottom of a page (a deck for example) are partialyl outside of the frame. not the biggest bug ever, but a slight inconvienence.

Looks like this is bug in UI library I'm using and only in Firefox (cannot test in Safari, but Chrome works well lifting card popovers above edge of the screen). I will investigate if I can do something about it, but not sure I'll be able to fix it.

I can confirm that I use Firefox, it didnt even cross my mind that it might be Browser/Engine specific.

Thanks for building this site, it's great. I'm in the process of migrating all my decks over to it now. I'm not sure if this was eventually planned to be included in VDB, but I really did like the "show happy families" feature on Amaranth - any chance that this might be built into VDB?

Thanks for kind words! I consider "Happy families" recommendation not useful (and even harmful to some extent) in 2021, so it won't make it into VDB. Other implementation of recommendations may come in the future (not nearest), but it needs thorough consideration how to do it and at the moment I don't have clear vision about it. But I'm open to proposals

The Krcg api can propose “candidates” based on what the current content of the deck, that might be a nice feature Can help build faster but of course the downside is it might encourage people to repeat what has been done already. But eh, no one’s forced to use the proposals after all.

ctrl-shift-r forces a cache refreh on most browsers (on PC) this usually helps to see the new features, as smeeag said.

I know theming it's very subjective topic, but I hope you will soon get used to it and like it - Added AND/OR switch for Type and Discipline search in Library when searching with multiple filters. Newly added filter form opens by default after you click [+] button. - Disciplines in crypt draw are now aligned same as in deck view. - Added 'Immutable URL' which will gives permanent URL for freezed current deck state, which is good when you want to freeze the deck and share it, while continue to edit in your deck archive (e.g. blog posts, etc). Same purpose as Deck-in-URL, but instead of storing everything about the deck in URL it just store non-editable deck copy on the server (Deck-in-URL is longer, but bulletproof - can be "decoded" even if VDB is dead, and can be "generated" with 3rd-party tools).

When I scroll through a deck with the arrow keys, the inventory information is from the card i opend at first, before scrolling left or right, instead of displaying the inventory information about the now shown card.

Just imported a Decklist and "Crocodile’s Tongue" was not recognised from the text file.

Fixed. Problem was because of ’ symbol is not same as '. But new implementation will work around all symbols variations. Thanks for report!

I am encountering a realyl weird bug (Windows, Firefox) when I mouse over a set a card was printed in, the whole website dissapers and only the background color remains.

I just realized, that, if you filter the crypt for titles, you don't get vampires that get titles when merged, would this be possible to change somehow?

another thing: I am adding a large number of cards to ym inventory at the moment, and it is really iritating, that searching and adding cards via the search bar behaves differently depending on if you have any copies already or not. could this please made consistent? preferbly always prompting the current inventory.

One sugestion about deck infor if posible. I will show with image from feld. In VDB for crypt you maybe can see all info/statistic of you crypt,but maybe is good to have somehow easy visible info/statistic you library cards what you have in deck,there in image what i show visible disciplines in you library and number cards of these disciplines.

Thanks, fixed. As for including it in result, I'll think about it, but really it's very rare case someone aim for title after merge when searching for cards, so probably it doesn't worth it (and as a nice side-effect it's written in card text).

No, and there are no plans for mobile apps. But I often use it on mobile and try to optimize every feature to be usable on mobile with modern big screen (mobile version is very different, give it a try if you haven't already).

Print On Demand set is not up to date (and I dont even mean the newly released Ravnos cards ) at least Direct Intervention is missing. It would be great to have this liste up to date on VDB, as your tool is way better for browsing cards then the "official" list, wich is only a CSV/spreadsheet.

Noticed that the rulings seem to not have been updated to the latest of the Codex. Is VDB auto updated to the latest rulings from the codex or are you having to update that manually??? I just noticed that "Combat/Action Modifier" and "Action Modifier/Combat" are two distinct categories that are even at different points in the inventory list. While I asssuem that this comes from the csv/the order of the symbols on the card, I think it would be nice to put those double categories together. also at this moment no icons/pictures work.

Thanks for this great tool, it is really working well for me. At the moment vdb.smeea.casa/ seems to have an issue though. Windows Network Diagnostics said "resource (vdb.smeea.casa) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts. Best regards

Could you try to reload the page (F5) and then try again? Previous fix was quite dirty temporary measure (but i was able to did it fast and server-side). After todays update necessary fixes are client-side (and i disabled server-side fix) but update only comes with page refresh (or when browser cache is old enough which is too long to wait).

i have resolved because it seems that the new deck was created so, from the decks page, i choose a card and added to the deck, then i moved to the Decks page and everything was fully functioning... That is what i do but i´m lazy .... the point is that rarely would you want to leave VDB when clicking on a rulings link and then why not make it that the default is to keep you in VDB

When switching between the different sets to see the different cards there is a bug when one switches to the POD:DTC one not showing any image.

Unfortunately it's not just a bug, but absense of scans from DriveThruCards. I would be happy to add it to VDB is someone can send me the scans As for rulings in separate tab, probably it makes sense to change default behaviour. P.S. Btw middle click opens links in new tab by default

The card "Power of One"...when first looked up one gets the below: Then when one switches set in this case to TR:C (which is the only one besides POD:DTC) one gets the below: And finally when one tries to switch "back" (or so I thought/assumed as there is no other sets beside TR:C and POD:DTC ) i get blank screen as below: Clearly, from the links I can see that it is using different images but isn't the first image the POD:DTC image which you don´t seem to have sitting in the /images/cards/set/pod/ folder but only in the /images/cards/en-EN/ folder (it has the logo )

another suggestion: "print differences" this of course would ned use of the "versions" feature, but an option, where you set a "start version" and a "target version" of the deck, taht only prints the cards that the "target version" has over the "start version" would be nice.

Thanks for clarification. The default image is not from any set, but just generated for latest card text. And (at least for now) it's not possible to go back to this image once you changed the image to scan from particular set (sure you can just re-open card window). With POD there are no scans available, and so there is a black background without anything (which is sure not good). I will fix it, so that click on POD will do nothing (preserve existing image) until I'll have POD scans.

I apologize, tested it poorly: unfortunately it only works immediatelly after you entered Compare mode (before any other than initial decks are selected), and I don't think it can be (easily) fixed. So for now please use page links in navigation panel (Decks will bring you back to Decks with last deck selected in Compare). And for convenicence, I'll add additional "Back to Decks" button to right panel (where we have buttons in Decks page) during next update.

Search by card text is powered by Regular Expressions (particularly Python implementation, but it's mostly universal) and will search for correct pattern. Examples (excluding doublequotes): 1) "minion.*strike" will search for any appearance of "minion" followed by anything (even nothing or several sentenses) followed by "strike". 2) "add . blood" will search for any appearance of "add X blood" (where X is a single symbol, so can be "X", "0", "5" but not "10"). Short intruduction is here in sections "Basic Patterns" and "Repetition" (should be enough for 95% cases): developers.google.com/edu/python/regular-expressions More information: docs.python.org/3/howto/regex.html I know it's not very user-friendly, but it requires very small maintenance from my side and still let users to do very complicated searches.

Hey there smeeag, a friend of mine just showed me your project, i helped Syd with the FELDB coding sometimes and was planning with him on building a new online version of it, after he passed away i started the project alone on my free time, it still on a very early stage, just coding functionalities and raw ui for now I've liked your project and some of your approaches on the ui, i'm also using react, but i'm trying to avoid any backend processing (no backend so far), to maybe be able to have a offline version latter on, i'm also building my project to have a FELDB feel but also to have a better user experience and to be customizable. I'm not putting it available for now, at least until i have at least a half decent ui, but if you want i can show you and share my future plans and ideias so we can improve both our project ^^ Keep up the good work ^^

Hi Vaughnad, Thanks for the kind words! You decision to avoid backend (at least where it's possible) is right, the reason VDB uses backend for searches (at least for cards) is that I started it from VTES-DB which was fully server-side-rendered python/flask website with working search code which I can reuse without rewrite. I realize at some point it should be moved to the browser, but it hangs in the TODO for months already and there are still features/fixes that I consider more important before this transition However, people use more than one device nowadays and want to have their data synced, so at some point you'll want to store it (decks, inventories) somewhere outside the client browser (at least in addition to local storage, to have good offline performance and sync it from time to time) I wish you good luck with the project and don't hesitate to use any ideas (or code, or whatever you need) from VDB, and if you have any questions / need support - dont hesitate to reach me (but keep in mind I'm not a professional developer and VTES-DB/VDB are my first and only developer experience, so take my code advices with fair grain of salt). Once you ready to show I'm glad to take a look (my contacts are or telegram: @smeea or discord Smeea#3259). Ministry and Banu Haqim are not working. It should be related to the fact that you still refer to them as Followers of Set and Assamites. (it is no longer the case in the CSV). And it is certainly related : when I try to sort the vampire and I choose something which should get me a Banu Haqim or a Ministry (selecting or or even and for example) it crashes

To avoid crashing you need to refresh the page with Ctrl-F5 (Command-Shift-R on MacOS), it's necessary to get updated cardbase. Banu Haqim and Ministry are still called by old names - Assamites and Followers of Set, but they contain all vampires (from "old" and "new" clans). I'll do final renaming transition (renaming) later, it requires some tinkering and will take some time, and I hope it's not very important how search filters are called and what icon is used.

Another update: - Add Card Ideas ("recommendation") feature to Deck, based on card compatibility in TWDA; How it works: By analyzing TWDA, we assign "scores" to each card pair (newer TWD = more score, more players = more scores). Then VDB looks which cards from entire cardpool have more score being paired with the cards in your deck and with respect of crypt disciplines of your deck (it does not recommend cards you have in deck or in side-deck). It is not perfect algorithm (actually it is very bad!), but still it give examples of good cards people use in the decks and then it's up to the user to find gems and add them to their decks

We have plans to enable an offline storage But there's a lot to work before that can be done, i'm trying to help with some refactoring to allow changes easly in the future, but only on my free time, that has now been much in the past weeks unfortunetly

@IfritBR There are no plans for native application for any of the systems (Windows/MacOS/Linux/Android/IOS/Whatever), but as Vaughnad told above, it's possible that future updates will bring some offline functionality. Though most likely it will not be 100% offline-ready, just less dependent on the stable connection.

I'd love if there was an option to share decks on VDB through some kind of "make deck public" option when creating decks. I appreciate the TWD deck search, but this site has the potential to be the best community deck archive around.

Public Deck Archive is a priority feature and in the TODO list for the very long time and it will happen one day, but I'm not yet sure how to do it properly (so it won't become garbage pile and will be actually usable), so cannot promise any timeframe for it.

Besides being logged in, the function "Import from Text - Amaranth, Lackey.TXT, TWD" still seems to treat me as not being logged in. It doesn't allow me to edit anything after the import. Otherwise I like this tool very much. Thanks a lot for your efforts. <INSERT CLEVER QUOTATION HERE>

Another update to VDB: - Add Public Deck Archive (PDA) page. In Beta (see below)! - Small other fixes Important notes: PDA IS BETA FEATURE AND MAY BE UNSTABLE. Public Deck Archive (PDA) let you share your decks with other players and search other players shared decks Following concepts are behind PDA: - Public it can be searched (using similar set of filters as for TWDA), viewed, copied by other players in the PDA page, and can be deleted by the author (but as with any other deck, author cannot delete your copy of the deck made with Copy deck button) - Public Deck is created from one of your existing deck (parent) in the Decks page using Public Archive button - You can switch to/from your public (child) and parent deck using Public Archive button in Deck page, with Public deck - Public deck is non-editable with standard card buttons. The only way to update Public Deck is to sync it with the parent deck using Public Archive button in Deck page. It does not automatically follows updates of the parent deck - We encourage people to mostly leave the deck unchanged after publishing. Not likely, but you can use Tags for that purpose.

VDB HAS CHANGED ADDRESS/HOSTING: - New address is: vdb.im/ - Older urls must redirect properly - It's not hacked, not sold to some greedy hedge-fund, etc. I'm still working on it with all invaluable contributions from the community! Reason: from the very beginning VDB was hosted on my home server in Russia, but after our government started the war with Ukraine significant sanctions become the reality we now live in, previous domain provider terminated the contracts with russian customers (including me), traffic exchanges start to block russian providers (including the one i use) and I have concerns that it will become only worse. New hosting (EU-based) should reduce latency for almost everybody, guarantee it will not be suddenly blocked and probably will have smaller overall downtimes (as sometimes my local home problems was the reason). Decreasing q-ty ([-] button) in side library will remove it.

@Alf Sound useful, it's probably mistake I missed this one while doing other "multi-filters" with OR logic (like Clans). Will be done in one of the next updates. P.S. I noticed that many filters does not work with multi-filtering (and/or/none logic) after recent update, I'll try to fix it first. I apologize for poor testing.

vdb seem to have become quite broken for me after the update, on Mac/iPad/iPhone (despite emptying cache/force refreshing) For example, on Mac/iPad, crypt search for sect does not work, and selecting any checkbox from the section with Titles etc. (e.g. Justicar, Baron…) leads to a blank page. On iPhone, the same actions lead to an always-spinning green search button. Am i doing something wrong or is there really a problem? Thank you! I tested on Mac and I confirm the issue with Titles search, it will be fixed in the next update (hopefully tomorrow). Crypt sect search however looks working for me (both on Mac and PC). Could you test again and give more details on what is happening (no results, bad results, white screen, etc)?

I'm a great fan of this tool Now I finally got around to add my cards to the inventory. After adding "0" for all the banned cards I captured numbers for 2231 unique cards out of 2235 library cards. Is there a way to figure out which 4 cards I have missed? Obviously zero and blank is not the same in the VDB inventory.

There is no specific feature to check your inventory against entire cards pool, but... You can use this synthetic "decks" containing 1x of each card: gist.github.com/smeea/99959177b9ffc47b5bf9043c61c923a2 1) Import them to your decks 2) Give some Fixed (pin icon) inventory status 3) You will see them in Missing in the inventory page 4) Delete this decks when you dont need them anymore, or simply Hide them and switch off inventory status to Virtual (@). P.S. It's not "zero vs blank" but more like "existing entry with 0 qty vs non-existing entry". Think of this as side-deck approach in Decks: you can leave some cards to be there with 0 q-ty for your convenience. Clicking [-] again will remove them completely from your inventory (like it was never added). You will still see empty red-boxes for filters "All or Only Problems" because there are problems with that cards, but you will see such 0 q-ty cards even in Only owned filter (and they will dissapear once you click [-]).

I have noticed 2 new bugs or errors. First, when using app and making a deck the option to add library and crypt cards disappear after one use- Second, when drawing cards from deck it always takes the top card regardless which card I click. This happens both in app and browser.

It must work. If it does not please delete it, open vdb.im in the browser and select "install app" in the menu (same way you did it before). That must solve all problems with installation, at least I know many people (including myself) who use it like this in Chrome and Firefox.

What would be the easiest way to import an existing collection into VDB?

I replied to you by email, but in case there are others interested: Importing from text is the simplest, so if you are coming to VDB from something else that will be the way. All you need is txt with cards in the following format, new card each line: 1x Card Name 2x Card Name ... Cards with "The Name" should be "Name, The" instead. E.g. "Unmasking, The" or "Unnamed, The". For crypt: "Advanced" must have (ADV) after name For different groups under same name add (GX) after card name where X is group

Im having some issue with vdb since last 2-3 months. Using Brave browser on an iphone SE iOS17.5.1 the website vdb.im autorefreshes automatically perpetually. Ie its stuck in an endless webpage refresh cycle, rendering the webpage unusable. I know at least one other person has the same issue. Lackeyname: Kris

On my android phone device legacy crypt shows inverted frames. For example: Cybele is on old frame, but Giotto is on new frame. EDIT: Ah, sorry, I read the update description again. The idea is that all crypts simply have the old frame as well. Not to follow how it was in the real physical editions? Nice detail, thanks!

Some cards naturally have old layout (available as scan in VDB, after you click on one of oldests sets in card window) and for them new image was not created, however VDB does not show scans by default. I don't know if Thiago will update them too (that would be awesome btw as some may have slightly updated text and scan quality is not always appealing especially regarding colors).

The "Legacy Crypt Images" switch only temporarily disables legacy frames. I am permanently logged on VDB via Firefox (PC). If I close the tab, then load VDB again, the legacy frames are shown again. The same thing happens on my mobile phone (android, logged via Chrome, installed like app).

Suggestion Hey smeeag! First of all, thank you for maintaining the site, it's a bliss, with the neverending updates and constant evolution! I would like to add to that, if possible:My attached pic depicts a TWD search. It shows decks with a "compressed" version. I think the "key cards" part is kinda redundant, but in its current form, the highlighted pop-up from card types is really messy, hardly readable (for me at least ). My suggestion is either key cards section should go, and the whole deck should be opened on the right side if clicked or hovered.... OR the pop-up section during clicking should have a different colored outline. Thank you again, and keep up the excellent work! NC of Hungary ///

Hi Everyone, Was logged out of VDB and when I try to log back in, I get the following error message: Unexpected Application Error! can't access property "is_playtester", Se[ht] is undefined $e@https://vdb.im/assets/index-MEIC3L-4.js:73:8211 u@https://vdb.im/assets/index-MEIC3L-4.js:73:43413 Anyone else experiencing these problems? Hey, One more update idea: Would it be possible to show the format filters for each card when you click on it on a Computer screen? It already shows sets and the artist name and if it is banned. So I might be advocating for the exact same thing you are... I think being able to choose a filter that only shows results for a given format would be VERY helpful! Finnish Politics!

This sounds cool, I'm adding it to my TODO list.

Until details about V5/2P are in teh card info when you click on it are available, you can quickly check individual card by searching it in the vdb.im/cards ("lightning" icon) searching for card by name, then selecting filter you want in the top bar => not compatible cards will have their name crossed out.

Another update to VDB [2026-08-02]: - Add share inventory surplus to share inventory, - Add search in shared inventory using Crypt/Library search (selector in Crypt/Library next to 'Search in Inventory' available after you opened shared inventory via url). Q-ty it shows is q-ty in shared inventory (but missing next to it calculated for your inventory, so you can see what you lack), - Shared inventory is now stored during your session (until you close the tab), you can go back to your inventory and back to shared (see new button in Inventory) and swap to other VDB sections without re-opening url, - Few bugfixes for Inventory like displaying cards with problem when Only Owned is selected, export missing cards and some more (there were nothing compromising/damaging content of the inventory, don't worry), - Update TWDA, - Update rulings
