My players would like to know the reasoning behind this decision.
An entrance fee of 150 EUR still feels unconfortably high (even though you will get something for the "additional 100 EUR"), and it is feared, that the number of participants will be quite low, and that White Wolf might misunderstand that as a sign of low interest in the game and getting it back to print.
Thanks in advance!

The reasoning behing this decision is that this way we get VTES printed again.
We are well aware that 150 EUR is a higher entry fee than normal for a Continental Championship, but the reward is likewise huge.
We cannot reveal the contents of the Anthology set until the end of January, but rest assured that they will be worth it.

Reasons include and are not exclusive to:
- The opportunity to get cards printed for the first time in seven years.
- The opportunity to reprint sought-after, expensive cards.
- The opportunity to print new cards and cards from VEKN sets.
- The opportunity to assemble a team that will have the experience to undertake, hopefully, future such projects.
- The opportunity to get V:TES front and center in front of White Wolf.
- The opportunity to demonstrate to White Wolf that printing V:TES is a profitable endeavor.
- If we turned down this opportunity, you would all fucking kill us.
Another reason:
- The only other proposal for the 2017 EC was for Palma de Mallorca, so there was going to be a sunk cost no matter what due to the airfare.

No. The proposition is to hold the EC in Berlin at a substentially increased cost.
Less players might show due to this cost increase.
The EC is held with 60 players.
WW realizes the player base is slim and not interested/capable of coughing up that kind of money.
Plans to reboot Vtes are canceled.
This is of course just a worst case scenario but it is understandable why people are interested in the backround of this decision. Im perfectly capable of seeing the reasoning behind this as described by Ben in his post, it is just that there are certain pitfalls associated with it.
in first sorry for my english , is not so good
i have 2 question
1- 150€ include the tournament ore the cost of the event is 150 € + tournament cost.?
2- European championship will be open so what other tournament will be in that day?
legendary? nation cup? first chance ? last chance?
3- for this season National championship and European qualifire have sense maybe thay can qualify for legendary?

The actual format of the European Championship will be announced before the 10th of January. But we are aiming for an open EC Day 1 where the top 40 (for example) will qualify to play EC Day 2. There may obviously be side events and/or other types of tournaments such as the Nations Cup. But it's a bit early to confirm that end.

DOOOM! DOOOOOOOM! DOOM DOOM DOOM DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM-uh!
I get that a hundred and fifty euros is a steep price tag for a V:tes tourney, even if each set that is included has an effective value over the 150 Euros (two Enkil Cogs will do it by my estimation)
but hey, at least Europeans get the chance to just pay the monies and get the set without jumping through ridiculous hoops right? From my understanding (which i pray to the almighty Snips is woefully inaccurate) the EC will be the only place to get this Anthology set. Crow about the entry fee all you want and I'll yell "THAT'S BULLSHIT!" into whatever face you want me to. But realize there's probably* a significant amount of players whose financial hardships for attending this event and getting the "Anthology" cardset go far beyond the cost to walk through the doors.
_____
*This set includes everyone who doesn't live in Europe, which is pretty fucking significant.
so for clarity's sake:
Will the "Anthology" set be offered for purchase to people who are incapable of attending the EC? I really need to know because if only EC/Berlin Event people can get these cards I need to start practicing yelling "THAT'S BULLSHIT!" at people to get the inflections right.
Good news! good effort.
Yes, it's a high cost for a tournament entry fee — but it's a relatively small investment to help with survival of the game. Five months notice is quite short for those travelling from a far though.
Hopefully turnout is good.

That's great news! Many thanks to all that make it possible!
At the same time it rises some questions:
1. Is it one time only or can we hope for vtes coming back to print for good?
2. Would it be possible to buy this new set after the EC? Or is it gonna be only for the chosen (by those I mean people that would be able to attend the WoD event)?
1. we'd like it to be the start of more VTES cards but it's not really under our control, but we hope this set shows WW+partners that VTES is still financially viable.
2. The sets are at Berlin to try and encourage people to go there/account for some of the increased cost over a traditional EC - it's part of the draw [as well as some excellent company]
Its a special event. Plus, the organizors have determined this to be a good way to show ww that vtes could be viable. Finally, im always on the supportive side once a decision has been made, which in this case its already been made.

But... that's not happening.
From the announcement:
Each participant of the convention will receive a copy of the set as part of their registration fee, and they will have the opportunity to pre-order additional sets to be collected at the event.
People who don't attend will get people who do attend to buy sets for them. There may be a limit - one extra sets, three extra sets, who knows - but I can predict with total certainty that some of those additional sets will get into the hands of people who don't attend Berlin.
Right. If i attend the event, i intend on acquiring sets for my friends who couldn't make the trip. Is that a problem?
Prince of Dallas
Toreador Grand Ball: Dallas

the problem lies in that it's an over-complicated way for someone who is unable to attend to get the cards, and it limits who can buy them by geography.
Hi!
I agree that the 150€ fee for entering is a bit high, but I also think that being part of a WoD event and have the support of White Wolf will encourage to make the VTES community grow and have new players at the long term.
Also if the Inner Circle has decide it, who are we, low generations to question them?
There is much discussion about how many cards sets attendants could be able to get, if non attendants could pre-order them or get them from an attendant friend, what will include the set, if it will be worth more or less than 150€, and so one....
We don't know much about it, so it's an empty discussion, just wait for January and have all the info.
Merry Christmas to all!

I play in a group of about 10 guys or so in Berkeley, California, USA. I would happily pay 150 Euros to attend the event or just to get one of the Limited edition sets. However, I definitely can't afford to travel to Berlin to attend. I am sure that several, if not all of the players in my playgroup in Berkeley also can't afford to attend but would happily purchase the set as well. I understand that you want to keep it limited to attendees, but if you change your mind, I assure you that there is plenty of interest in the Limited Edition set in the states. Email me at if so. If nothing else, relay my group's interest in the limited edition set to White Wolf. It is exciting to hear that someone would have interest in printing VTES cards, even if it is just a one time thing. Please keep us informed about any future interest in putting this awesome game back in print!

(Happy New Year all.)
Echoing several of the previous posts... myself and I imagine at least two other players in our local group here in the UK would theoretically be very happy to purchase a set each (depending on contents vs how much the additional sets would cost plus any P&P/ beer money for the kind ferryman), but none of us have a particular interest in tournament play or the time or resources spare to travel to Berlin (we've all entered the 'weddings/young ones' phase of our lives).
It's a real shame that there isn't a shop mechanism for VEKN members to order a copy. We certainly await future announcements with anticipation

Is there a limit to how many sets are going to be printed?
Is there any reason one person couldn't order 1000 sets? Sure, the initial option for how many you want goes up to 10, but is there anything to stop someone from ordering more than 10?
If there are meaningful limits on what can be arranged for a con goer, then, sure, that limits availability significantly. If somebody, let's say a German game seller with an international online presence, can just "attend" the con and buy a 1000 sets, seems like that would make availability somewhat more common, even finding a way to navigate shipping internationally at reasonable markup for shipping, duty, taxes, whatever.
I'm actually quite interested in answers to the questions above as a number of locals are chiming in about wanting 3 sets apiece, which quickly adds up to a ... lot ... of sets.

No, they themselves today said that the 10 is just the website's limit (apparently thought that no one would need more?) and that you could order as many as you wanted.
I'd assume that they'll take the the extra orders into account when making the print run. I do not have any idea about the number they were planning to print.

Wait, gonna ask a question. The site gives a cap of 10 preorders per person going. Is that a limit set per person? or can you make multiple orders on the site?
What's the packaging going to be like for the sets?
For instance, can sets just be dropped into a standard white card box?
Affects whether to bring empty boxes or not.

Getting the cards is of course the priority, but not getting a box would be, erm, not cool.
Besides, there are people who have bought a couple of dozen sets so bringing extras is not all that viable a plan.
But I guess that we'll get an announcement about the boxes (or lack of them) closer to the event, right?

I just counted 105 registered players (after deleting entries for persons who registered twice, or in one case three times), from 21 countries.
Very impressive, and this really addresses my fears that the high entry fee would negatively affect attendance....

Great to see such a big interest for the event & anthology set.
Questions:
- Are the reprint & PDF set cards tournament legal already on EC events (as long as you use opaque sleeves)?
- How about the new Larp related cards?

The matter has been under consideration by the Rules Team since...er...I think since the Anthology Project started. They've been focussed on getting the Anthology Set itself ready for print and recently circled back to discuss tournament questions. We'll have an answer soon.
