Hi As per the announcement in the September Newsletter for volunteers to design a pdf rulebook, here is a link to view my proposed page layouts and cover ideas. www.dropbox.com/sh/27gmp27liucbk36/AABYs2YY7dznVTfpe8t4_pkUa?dl=0 I have tried to maintain the style and look of VTES in the layouts and I am aware there maybe other things to consider should it be decided to go ahead with any of the designs. I would be very interested to hear what you all think, or if anyone has any other ideas. Cheers

Lönkka

Getting rid of the small card size format is a good idea. Keeping relevant related things in one page would be optimal but possibly not really feasible (so spreads are probably the way to go). Using artwork etc would probably be a good idea to fill in empty gaps and overall to make the layouts more loose. Finnish Politics!

I think they all looked fantastic. V4 of the rule book interior was probably my fave, but I'd be happy with any of them. Disco Stu

With regards to the cover, I really like #2 and #3. But if I had to choose one, I would go for #3. As to the rulebook interior, I think that versions 3 and 5 are the most appealing to me. But given my cover choice above, version 5 seems to be the best match for it. V:EKN Website Coordinator

Looks really nice. As Lönnka said, I appreciate the move away from the tiny format. But what is actual intended format. A4? A5? Stylewise I like the pdf rulebook #1 the most appealing, also because it matches the style of the players guide to some degree. With regards to the cover I like #1 best. Not the least, because the Vampire: the Dark Ages books look very similar.

hardyrange

Wow - I appreciate your work here! For me, either cover 2 or 3, with a slight preference for version 2. For the rulebook, I like version 5 best. "It was a perfect plan - until it had contact with reality" --- Hardy Range Playgroup Tradition Compliance Manager

I'm not too fond of any covers. Perhaps #3 if I had to pick. Prefer rulebook #1 — although would prefer a stark white background (much clearer and less dated). Also font wise, it would be good to try and use consistent fonts across all media / content. Amaranth Deck Building Tool : VTES NZ : VTES ANZ Facebook

> Ankha wrote: > Some fonts are good for print, some other better for screen. > This. I also prefer cover #3. Is rulebook #2 spreads, or just horizontal A4 pages? What's the format of the pages? Seems A4. I prefer rulebook #4 seems to be the less cluttered one and it shares an simpler background with #3. The less clutter and distractions, the better for the reader. It also has simpler and lighter ornaments and typography, which seems the way to go in a rulebook (again, the less distractions the better). Ginés has a point though, as the interior of rulebook #5 is the one that best matches the cover.

Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to have a look at my designs. I really welcome the feedback and will take the suggestions made into consideration. The format is A4, though I have thought about using a letter sized (215.9mm x 279.4mm) page, however, A4 would make more sense. Rulebook #2 is horizontal, as I thought this would be more appropriate for viewing on screen. I agree that the cleaner page backgrounds would be visually better, as well as keep the finished file size as small as possible - helpful when viewed on an ipad or similar device. It will also make it a little more ink friendly, should anyone want to print it. I do have one thing to ask though, so I apologise if this is out of line, but would it be possible to use the font used for the Disciplines and other game icons? The pdf's of Danse Macabre and The Unaligned list it as the AnkhaVTES font. A google search brings up a webpage ankha-vcm, but the source path does not have a link to the .ttf file. Using a font, instead of images of each icon, would make things a lot easier. If anyone knows how to gain access to the font file, I would really appreciate the help! In the meantime, I will work on refining the layouts and hope to have them posted in the next week or so. Cheers

Hi First draft of the complete VTES rulebook is here, sorry that it's taken longer than I anticipated www.dropbox.com/s/1cu3vjabk86cob3/VTES%20Rulebook%20071115.pdf?dl=0 There are still a couple of things to add, like the index and the Imbued appendix and I may re-design the cover (perhaps by using an image from one of the recent expansions) but, on the whole, it's pretty much done. The order of the rulebook follows that of the most recent printed version and the online rules. Personally I feel that the rules could do with a slight adjustment/re-structure but I am not sure how the VTES community would feel about that… If there is anything that people feel needs changing or adding please let me know. Cheers

It looks good, but for the terrible card scans. I'd probably split the disciplines in two groups, "standard" and "expert". Standard: animalism, auspex, celerity, dementation, dominate, fortitude, obfuscate, obtenetration, potence, presence, protean, thaumaturgy, vicissitude Expert: the rest (mainly bloodlines & clan-disciplines). hardyrange

Very nice. I agree with Ankha re the card scans; that should be improved. I also noted at least one spelling error on first glance ("Valeren" is misspeeled as "Valaren" in the list of disciplines), which makes me think somebody should do a session of proof-reading on this file.... But that is nit-picking; in fact, I appreciate your effort - very, very nice! "It was a perfect plan - until it had contact with reality" --- Hardy Range Playgroup Tradition Compliance Manager

Excellent work indeed! I can provide you with high resolution scans of almost any VTES image, so feel free to send me a list of the ones you need for the rulebook. I think it would be convenient to add the Imbued Rules Appendix. V:EKN Website Coordinator

Hi there Second draft of the rulebook here: www.dropbox.com/s/wb93uc4akfmbwio/VTES%20Rulebook%20141215.pdf?dl=0 I'd like to think that this is the final version, unless people notice any glaring mistakes... The spelling of Valeren is now correct, as the main text was copied directly from the online rules everything else should be OK, I have spell-checked it several times and not noticed any other errors. The images have been improved, the original quality was due to the low resolution settings when I created the pdf, rather than the scans themselves. The cover has been amended, and I have added the Imbued appendix and a quick reference page. The pdf is also bookmarked and indexed so, along with the links in the text, it should be easily navigable. If anyone finds any links missing or that don't work, please let me know. Thanks to everyone that has commented so far, and I hope it proves useful to old and new players alike! Cheers

Awesome work! Thanks so much! I will upload it to the proper sections as soon as I can. V:EKN Website Coordinator

Wow, the new draft looks amazing! And I'm so happy to see the card images in higher resolution. I've scanned through the entire document (although I didn't read it in depth), and I have to say that I quite like it! An excellent addition, and I'm thrilled that once the VEKN site is operational again that it can host this awesome rulebook. Thanks for you hard work! Check out my VTES blog: Gaming with BS I also host a google doc which separates the TWDA into clans . That means I track how often clans win, which crypt groups get used, and how many people attend events. You can access all of that info here:

Hi great work, I really like it I find few minor issues reading it page 3, 1.5 (crypt overview) point 3 (clans): "See the reference pages in the center of the rules booklet for a list of the clan symbols" you place the clan list at pages 18 and 19, no more in center page 5, top left: "A drop of blood with a number on the left side of ..." there are no references to old cards blood/pool symbols (white and black drop). Maybe could be usefull to add them page 6: Govern the unaligned card miss the red 6 on card text page 7: 8: powers you place a power card here and also in the imbued section but there is no conviction card here in my opinion you could remove power description here and add a note who point to imbued section for other type of cards page 7: 1.6.4. Event Cards there is 1.6.4 intead of 9 to indicate event cards also no number on the event card page 10: 6.1.7. Political Action (+1 stealth) .... A minion cannot perform more than one political action each turn." as stated above in the same paragraph only vampires can play a political card so I suggest to replace "minion" with "vampire" page 19, Wording Templates. on 4th line of “During X, do Y” start a new template, “Cancel a card” without a new line and a bold page 20, top left, 4th row a new template "“Tap X to do Y”:" start with no new line and bold also on line 10 start “Search” ciao Stefano "Walt" Calzighetti Prince of Pordenone (Italy)

Hi New version of the rulebook now available here: www.dropbox.com/s/zbv11vl0oevhe2t/VTES%20Rulebook%2025012016.pdf?dl=0 I must give thanks to Walt for picking up on those few errors, which I have now corrected. One thing I didn't change, however, was the Event Card section. The previous section (1.6.3) dealt with Minion Cards. As an Event Card isn't a Minion Card, it has it's own section (1.6.4) I have also added the rules clarifications mentioned with the Anarchs Unbound posting. Again, I hope you find the rulebook useful and I thank you for taking the time to have a look at it. Cheers

brettscho

Thanks for your hard work - it's looking better and better! By the way, what is the purpose behind the "Last updated on XXXX" statements spread throughout the book? Is that just a way for somebody to double check that the appropriate section has been updated after a ruling comes out? Thanks again! Hi all Here is the link to the current version of the VtES rulebook: www.dropbox.com/s/boxcu45d7cg6shi/VTES%20Rulebook%2012032016.pdf?dl=0 Personally, I think this is as finished as it needs to be. If there any further rule updates, obviously I will amend the rulebook and re-post. Please note that all the older files have now been deleted, so some of the links in the earlier posts will not work. Overall, I am pleased with the finished design, so thanks to everyone that has helped out, and offered comments and corrections. Cheers!

Very cool. One suggestion — changing the card key symbols to be alpha based (A - F) so they don't clash with the card type numbering (1 - 7). Amaranth Deck Building Tool : VTES NZ : VTES ANZ Facebook

Not strictly a design issue, but I have noticed that the fluff glossary is missing Black Hand entries (Black Hand and Seraph at least, maybe a couple more.)
