Hi, I have a question.
I have and idea to run something new for the Players which are not participating in LCQ.
It's "3 decks stand".
Rules:
1. every player have to register 3 decks
2. before every round player chose one deck and play with them, this deck can't be played during another round.
3. Finalist chose his deck before sitting - and choses from whole pile of 3 decks.
4. The tournament will be sanctioned like any regular tournament.
OFC we can mix this rules with Nations Rules.
What do You think?
Regards
Szewski
It is fun, but what will it bring?
If players have access to other player decklists, it would add a level of strategy. Otherwise, it is a guessing game, or not at all different from standard bring-one-deck tournament
first of all my asumption is to give all the players whit qualify something new and different so more of them will join this kind of tournament not LCQ
secondly: lots of players have more than one deck ready to play but with a lack of tournaments in their area they dont have the opportunity to play with them all
thirdly: options with the decklists is good to consider but I think that strategical aproach will be more before the final when the finalist will chose decks during seating.
But this is only the idea. I think that we can mix this up with the Natons Cup as well. And others ideas if their will come
So, lets talk

Fun, it makes player skill more obvious than bad luck metagame choice.
But have you considered the deck-swap format? (You bring one deck, leave it to the judge, who distributes all decks randomly among the participants - then you get VPs for both your deck´s success and your success playing. Finalists play their own deck in the final. I really would like to try this!)

swaping is another nice adition...but what about swaping from 3 decks pile?
example: first round: 3 decks pile - swaping one at random
second round: 2 deck pile - swaping one at random
third round: obvious
But it will need more time to prepare every round. And how to score? Whole vp will count? From Your game and from game Your decks's playing?
I need more opinion for You, Players

I am NOT in favour of deck-swap:
Some good decks are obviously complex and hard to play and do not suit your style of playing.
Plus, you have the typical problem of somebody else playing with your cards.
What do you do if some drink hits the table and drowns your beloved copies of Summon History?
If you sit at that table, you have at least a chance to react, so you could blame yourself for having been too slow.
No sleeves prevent that kind of damage.
Plus, each player has his own habit of shuffling.
Three times NO. Sorry.

yep, so we're only discuss it and consider different options. Every opinion get's us closer
I wouldn't mix 3 decks and swapping options. It becomes a little to complex.
I like the idea with swapping decks but have similar concerns like Hakuron concerning lost/ damaged cards. For a big event like EC I think 3 decks option is better.

Sure, this is a good point. You are right, the deck swap works rather bad in big tournament (although you might want to consider not using your most precious cards in this format!)
But this:

... is a worse point. If you get vps from how your deck works for another player you don´t want to build it too complex.

From this point of view I agree, but ...
... then this format will lead to very mainstream-ish deck.
You will get to play something that you see "every day", and show your skill in playing various tier-1 decks.
I really prefer the non-swap version, because then you can play the tier-1 decks you want to play AND can risk to play something more fancy with secret tech that might work out to your favour because you made some cunning meta-game choices.

For what it's worth:

The multi-deck system can be used at any tournament with fewer than 12 players (i.e., fewer than three tables). Organizers choosing to use this system must announce its use in advance of the tournament date. Players may choose to bring any number of tournament-legal decks to the tournament and/or extra cards to exchange with cards in their decks (also known as a sideboard in some games). Between rounds, players may freely switch decks (or cards in their decks). A tournament begun with the multi-deck system cannot admit more players between rounds if doing so would create a round with 12 or more players.

ok, but can We use some "unorthodox" rules to create special event for the EC?

For sanctioned events, or for unsanctioned events?
The answer for unsanctioned events is yes.

Discussions about sanctioned events should also include Ginés (and probably go through emails or the national coordinator section of the forum)
yes, You're right. But we only discuss. Nothing more/less.
And this is open thread for everyone so Gines and NC can put their opinion here as everyone.
Maybe I should ask can we run an unsanctioned event during EC? Or is there any need for that?

Either format seem fun to me, but I agree with Hakuron that lending a deck to someone you don't know it's kinda tricky...
I would say that a multi-deck tournament should not be mixed with Nation's Cup, for the only reason that you have to think about 9 different decks per country for the finals (3 from each player).
Another thing is that each country choses 3 decks and 3 players and those players swap their decks between them between rounds. The problem is that you can play the same deck multiple times against each other...
