"Official Announcement" needed

I would suggest that somebody from vekn should make an "official" statement/announcement for the average players out there regarding the plans for a new set. Every NC should translate that one announcement to his national language and post it the national forum. NC for Hungary hunfragment.blogspot.com

What for? There's no such plan. When there is one, I guess that then there will an announcement. Prince of Paris, France Ratings Coordinator, Rules Director

I think Mephistopheles means this : www.vekn.net/index.php/forum/10-news-and-announcements/6452-vekn-call-for-artists#6457 If, indeed there are plans afoot for a new edition, i would LOVE to know (as would all of the vtes players, i believe). Unfortunately, my drawing talents are non-existant, so i cannot offer help in this department.

Mephistopheles

Let me quote this: "The Vampire: Elder Kindred Network is looking for volunteer artists (i.e, who will be working for free) for the new VTES set. If you are interested, please send me an email with some samples of your artwork, or a link to your online portfolio. When the time comes, I will let the chosen artists know which illustrations they should do and when they should be submitted." Half of the Hungarian players is wondering what's going on and the other half will do so soon. This sounds very much like there is a set planned. So is there a plan? Is work being done? Or is it the "oh we should have artists in the reserve when the stars are in the perfect position" kind of thing? NC for Hungary hunfragment.blogspot.com

Do they accept stick figures?

This "announcement" made the forum lit up! Almost 200 members online! B)

Most of them must be spambots. It has been like that for a couple of weeks at least.

Yep, that's what I want to know, too. NC for Hungary hunfragment.blogspot.com

Perhaps you should rephrase that question to: "What would be needed to publish a new set and what can the community do to help?"

Asking for artists seems a reasonable thing to do if you need to know if there are any out there and willing to do some art for free. All the other known artists are not likely to do anything for free. pckvtes.wordpress.com

The other thing is that WW probably had people sending them art regularly... so they just picked from the names that had landed on their desks. I wish I could help out with the artwork, but I would LOVE to help with card design and playtesting... I think it probably would be a good thing to have known playtesters (still bound by secrecy contracts). They could also act as "primogen" for Pascal on big issues/debates as well. Ankha please gimme more common places. Please!!! btw: I didn't start this topic because I am Sofa King bored, but because I represent a country. People here should be aware that the majority of non native english v:tes players doesn't speak english or their english knowledge is limited to understanding the cards they play with. For this reason many players don't read this forum. We NC's should also represent the interest of these players and respect their demands. What they demand from us NC's is a information. At least so I think. So replying "Patience is a virtue" or other similar useless things is really something I could describe only with words that would ban me from this forum. So why so much fuss about a virtual expansion? I've done for my storyline about 120 Sabbat vampires group 5/6 to play with and was fun. But to get annoyed by the fact that someone is planning one is a little too much. Relax, it's a virtual/pdf expansion and anyone can make one. If it happens to be sanctioned by the VEKN we will embrace it and play with it. In any case kudos to Damnans and his crew for making efforts towards a new expansion!!! I just love the online tool on the Spanish site dnn.vtes.net and if anyone can make a good expansion it's them klubtitanatlas.hr/ former NC for Croatia

Hello, first post here. Hey Damnans, I'm not against designing new cards, and I know it has been your specialty for a while I'm just wondering, instead of trying to publish a whole set, with all the danger of it being badly tested, why not put our efforts in the creation of some periodic Promo cards, which could be distributed during tournaments as prize support, à la Meddling of semsith ? For exemple : january to march, the promo is a new imbued crypt card. april to june, the promo is a location that favors big vampires... And so on, I guess by now you understand my statement. Easier to test, cheaper to print, good incentive for people to attend tournaments... I can only see advantages in making promo cards instead of a whole set. Comments welcome. Certainly, the VEKN is new, and I hope they don't make this (minor) error again, but there is absolutely zero advantage for the parent organization to ask publicly for artists, when all artists are available via email/Facebook/website, especially when there "is no set". My memory disagrees with your experience, Kevin. At every trade show, WW would have time set aside to art portfolios. They also had a webpage dedicated to explaining how to submit art for consideration for future work. i.e. they always had a message out to find new artists Once they had a project to work on, they contacted those previously vetted artists with assignments. Gines acquiring a stable of willing artists publicly is a good first step. Once he has something to assign, that communication will take place privately.

if there's anything I know about the commercial art world, it's that companies usually don't go combing the internet looking for you, asking if they can throw money at you. no matter how fancy your website or facebook page is. I hear a lot of jobs are like that. also considering that this would be volunteer work for no pay, how else are they supposed to find eager volunteers?

> Adonai wrote: > My memory disagrees with your experience, Kevin. > At every trade show, WW would have time set aside to art portfolios. > I've never attended one with White Wolf, but "trade shows" aren't accessible to the public. So, they're essentially "private" calls for art. That's what I mean by "private". > Adonai wrote: > They also had a webpage dedicated to explaining how to submit art for consideration for future work. i.e. they always had a message out to find new artists. In fact, I think that's an excellent idea, if the VEKN wishes to be perceived as "professional" in this regard. My issue is that, because of the way that this was done, it's now going to be on the lips of players for months, and it may not even happen. There are a hundred other things that players could be focusing on that they have some control over and would be useful to them, their playgroup, and the national and worldwide community at-large, instead of some pipe-dream. I've seen pipe-dreams ruin people due to false hope and expectations, and I don't want that to happen to anyone in the already fragile player base. So, maybe it's just me, but I worry. It was scheduled on a placard at the booth, with days and times that portfolios would be accepted. It was usually just a quick discussion to ensure that contact information was with the samples. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get R. Brian Smith more work from his portfolio. He did do the first really nice rules playmat though.
