Uncontrolled Impulse Type: Action Modifier Requires: Ishtarri Cost: 1 blood +2 stealth. Not usable if any non-mandatory actions have been performed this turn. Should the second sentence be read as if it was: "Not usable if any non-mandatory actions have been successfully performed this turn" OR "Not usable if any non-mandatory actions have been declared this turn." Since the card uses 'non standard' wording, I felt unsure about its usage when it came up in a social game recently. Retired Baron of Sydney, Australia, 418

"Performed" is used everywhere in the rulebook, but I haven't seen it defined. It seems to mean "resolved" since it is the same word used for NRA.

Yeah, the word perform is total shit and always has been. It's incredibly insufficient to define what it's trying to define. All "perform(s)(ed)(ing)" should be changed to "attempt(s)(ed)(ing)" unless otherwise already clarified using "successfully". fr.ex. This card is incredibly confusing, if one is trying to posit the definition of perform... Chameleon's Colors [SPI] Only usable at long range. Strike: combat ends. If this vampire was blocked while performing an action other than bleeding, the action continues as if unblocked. ...because the modifier "was blocked" seems to change the definition of perform to mean "attempting", whereas in Jugg's example of Uncontrolled Impulse, there is no clarifying modifier, hence his question. The relevant cards seem to be: Change of Target Flow within the Mountain Malkavian Derangement: Paranoia Ravnos Carnival Red Herring Soul Decoration Veil the Legions But even then the usage of the word Perform is VERY inconsistent. Retired Baron of Sydney, Australia, 418

There's actually 29 cards that need to be changed. I was just trying to pick the cards likely to have relevant rulings. Retired Baron of Sydney, Australia, 418

Sorry to be "thread bumping" but if nothing else, could I get a "The Rules Team/Leader are looking at this" comment from Pascal if not a ruling?? Retired Baron of Sydney, Australia, 418

I was out of Internet reach this week-end. Past tense / passive voice "performed" means "[which] has reached resolution" - and the resolution can be successful, or unsucessful. Active present tense / gerundive "perform(ing)" means "attempting" Here are several scenarii: (suppose there has been no actions previously in that turn) - Undele plays Abactor, which is DI'd. He then bleeds. In that action, he can play Uncontrollable Impulse. - Undele bleeds, gets blocked, untaps with Freak Drive, and calls Consanguineous Boon. In that action, he can't play Uncontrollable Impulse. - Undele plays Consanguineous Boon, which is DI'd. He then calls Kine Resources Contested. In that action, he can play UI. - Undele hunts, untaps with Freak Drive, and bleeds. In that action, he can play Uncontrollable Impulse.

Or hunts with the Razor, or Abactor, and then, Freak Drives. but, yes, Undele with no blood hunts and untaps.

So the second sentence should read: "Not usable if any non-mandatory actions have been resolved this turn." Performed, (still past tense), could mean attempted, resolved or successful. It might be worth in future not using performed and replacing with 'attempted', 'resolved' or 'successful'. Retired Baron of Sydney, Australia, 418
