Etiquette Question: To Bump, or Not To Bump

I didn't find a way to post a poll, and I feel that matters of forum etiquette should be decided by consensus, not by decree. Here's the question: If an event is posted in the Event Announcement category, is it appropriate to 'bump' the post back onto the front page before the event occurs or should the event organizer rely on the Event Calendar to notify players searching for the details of his future event? www.vekn.net/index.php/event-calendar Here are some possible answers: No, never. Bumping a thread with no new content wastes too many readers' time and should be avoided. Yes, once, the week of the event. Yes, twice, once two weeks early, and once the week of the event. Yes, as often as the poster desires. What are you thoughts on this?

No post should be bumped under any circumstance. New posts are for new thoughts and information.

First, the Event announcement section should be split into geopraphical areas. With less posts per section, there might be no more need for bump. But anyway, I have nothing against bump. Announcing the tournament as soon as a date is secured is a good practice that should be promoted. Forbidding bump punishes it instead.

I think people should be nice about bumping threads. I don't mind events being bumped close to the event (in case people have forgotten etc). I don't think bumping it daily is acceptable however. Limited bumping is okay. Spam-bumping is bad. Retired Baron of Sydney, Australia, 418

The administrators and moderators are very lax and won't delete topics or posts on a whim. Here is an example of acceptable behavior and unacceptable behavior. EXAMPLE A (acceptable) Original event announcement is created couple of months before the event is held and drops from the first page couple of weeks after. The organizer decides to bump it up month before the event is held and it again drops out after couple of weeks. Then few days before the event is held he bumps it again to remind people. EXAMPLE B (unacceptable) Original event announcement is created couple of months before the event. The organizer bumps up every time the topic moves out of the first spot in the topic list.
