Dear V:TES Community,
Carl, Eric and I are seeking volunteers to participate in the playtest of a small set of Sabbat-themed V:TES cards. This playtest round will be open to all participants who register with one of us. Cards will be privately distributed via e-mail in PDF format for ease of printing. More precise details about the process will be provided to those who express interest. If you want to take part, please contact me <> or Carl Pilhatsch <> at your earliest convenience for more details.
Thank you for your attention and interest,
Carl, Eric and Jeff

Although I encourage players to test their card ideas (and I can check cardtexts if they're sent to me), I'm quite disappointed that a member of the VEKN Inner Circle is trying to develop, test, and release a set in parallel of the official VEKN set.

For my part, I'm excited that these pillars of the community are coming up with even more new cards to use. I would encourage the VEKN to consider making this second expansion official, provided that they determine that the cards are useful and interesting and so on.
What is this doing here without the vekn permission? Why not just submit to the vekn to make this a second official vekn set, to be made official in parallel with the existing set or in sequence thereafter?
Or like, i dunno...let it go....damn this is such a mess.
VEKN.net is the official place for VTES discussion, so it should be here. Their expansion is no more official, nor legal, nor will it likely be, than any other fan expansion, or any of the cards in the Expansion Sets & Card Ideas thread. So, this should be viewed as if anyone there said "come test my expansion!"
Whether or not it's appropriate for the past actions of those three players to result in dismissal from the IC is a different matter than what they are asking now, I think.

This is just sad. Why do you feel this is necessary? Is it just because the cards you suggested for the real playtest were considered not good by the real playtesters?

It is cool that you three like to develop another expansion. Just do it with the backup of VEKN and as a second expansion, to give it a good, solid background and to not disunite the community.

Please stop being silly and rocking the V:TES boat.
Looks especially bad for Eric the Inner Circle Member...
In light of this I suggest that we modify the design team's contract (if there is any) so that the ownership of the cards designed is in the hands of the organization, not the designers. At least as long as there is no new publisher for the game (ie. until any possible money enters the picture).
If this forum's card suggestion threads are used to harvest for new card ideas for playtesting/future expansions then the same needs to be applied to all these suggestions/threads as well. So that by default when you suggest a card in this forum you are handing over the rights of those cards/ideas to VEKN.
Finnish Politics!
If a player has the time, conditions and ability to playtest, why would he be interest in working with something that is divisive, non official and reeks of personal agenda all over?
Why not work in the official Project?
Do you think it is being badly run? Do you think you could do a better job?
Awesome!
Please take this advise into account:
-Stop any type of action that is in parallel with the Expansion being tested now.
-Make a project (team description, communication methods, timings, possible theme, etc..). Apply it to VEKN (ICs, NCs, etc) for the next expansion.
-Be clear you guys want to be the 3 Lead Designers.
-Be open to VEKN's position on the number of cards and main themes. The IC's need to think long term. The Leads Designers of each expansion do not.
I'm sure this is much more helpful to us all. You included.
Unless you guys have issues with all the VEKN IC and most of the NCs.
If that's the case, you're a small minority of 3, because they're awesome people and I think they would take your case into consideration.
That is, if you don't keep burning your bridges.
Relax, don't do it,
Tiago
PS: As lead designer, I don't wish for any novel material or characters from the BYOS Lisboa: 1999 or the Official Storyline Friday 13th to be used outside of VEKN sanctioned projects at this time.
I'm sorry but I wouldn't feel good with such material being used in a project that divides us.
This would include Claudio Severino, but also any other cards I gave my opinion / input in, as I was under the notion it was to be released officially.
You can disregard my wish, of course. I will not comment or voice an opinion on the matter if you do, as I feel I would also be helping to divide us.

Well, they believe the boat is sinking and try to wake peoples. It just happen that no information permitting to agree or disagree with them is public.
I find really sad what they are trying to do here. We cannot put aside our personal differences over a future of a game we all share, play and like.
They have been also sending personal invitation emails, one was sent to me.
I'd also rather they didn't use the VEKN 'open request' for playtesters or my playtest data to e-mail playtesters by name it seems more than a little rude.
if you want playtesters go get them yourself politely without junk mailing everyone
To be clear, I have zero interest in unofficial fan expansions, and yet there are some great cards in the current playtest that I would love to see become official.
I would rather they approached the VEKN about getting official sanction for their set in parallel to or in sequence after the VEKN official expansion.

What is important is that both party here want the best for VEKN. It's just that they disagree : Jeff kuta and his friend find more important to outline the errements of the main process, by showing how they would do, while most hater find more important to be real sure that it does not fracturate the community. Who mainly don't care, to be honest.

Ease up on the sanctimonious attitude. I'll note with interest that the thread has been moved once already.
V:EKN has a stranglehold on the development of new fan based cards, insomuch as they determine what cards are supported for their sanctioned tournaments.
We are the 99%.

There is a lot of unharnessed energy and talent out there. There are a lot of projects that could be worked on besides just developing one new small set of cards, putting on the championship tournaments, and updating a few rules once a year.
I looked at the fan-run Star Trek site www.trekcc.org/, and they seem to do a lot with committees. It's true that if you are the only person in charge of marketing/rules/rankings/development you have a lot more control, but you can get a lot more done by leading a group of people. The role of the leader should be to see the projects that could be done and then to find the people who can do the work and to lead them, not to do all the work him or herself.
A lot of people on this board, such as Direwolf (okay, I won't tell them your real name ) have good ideas and energy, but they lack the "legitimacy" of VEKN since they have no role in the organization and don't have "Methuselah" standing in the community.
Personally I think that VTES can now be led by the players, but I know that I am in the minority. Does VTES have to be a like a vampire, frozen for eternity in the form it had at death? If the former design team wants to keep going, I say good for them.
Committees are a great idea, and probably would have done a lot to solve the design team's problems. I see no reason why you couldn't have one committee working on one expansion while another started prepping for the next, both creating cards under the coordination of one central leader. That leader wouldn't have anything to do with the actual creation of cards himself - he would only coordinate the process.

Those people can offer their ideas and thoughts to the relevant forum (or people if they don't want to disclose them) and see the discussion evolve. Many players have posted new card ideas in the past. This is most appreciated. I don't think you have to be an old player to be taken serious.
