Slaving in on oneself?

This question arose from a local discussion on the slave rule. From this LSJ reply , we know that a vampire can both be a member of the master clan and a slave to that clan. The rulebook, when discussing the slave rule, doesn't actually specify that the slave be a different minion, just that the slave has to be untapped. So, consider the following sequence: Chaundice, having previously Clan Impersonated , is blocked by Horatio. in the ensuing combat, Horatio plays Meld with the Land at , and Chaundice is untapped. Chaundice plays Momentary Delay to continue the action, and is then blocked by Anton, who's wielding a Sniper Rifle. Can Chaundice invoke the slave rule on herself to beat the "resulting combat" text of the Sniper Rifle? And, if she can, does she end up tapped or untapped? (There are other ways to untap during the course of the action where this could be relevant, but Meld with the Land was the first example we came up with when discussing this.) > Rulebook wrote: > Slave: Some minions are identified as slaves to a specified clan. A slave cannot take a directed action if his controller doesn't control a ready member of the specified clan. Also, if a member of the specified clan controlled by the same Methuselah is blocked, the controller can tap the slave to cancel the combat and to untap the acting vampire and have the slave enter combat with the blocking minion instead. > > Sniper wrote: > Weapon, gun. > 2R damage each strike. Only usable at long range. If the bearer blocks an action, he or she may, before range is determined, set the range for the first round of the resulting combat to long; if he or she does so, skip the determine range step that round, and the bearer's initial strike that round must be with this weapon. > -- National Coordinator South Africa
