vagabond mystic and other ally questions

When exactly can you tap the mystic? only during your turn? any time? even during combat involving another one of your aliies? what happens when allies/retainers get thefted. do they lose life? sorry for my ignorance. i've only just discovered the joys of playing with allies. anyone got any memories of mortality for trade? Anytime, but not (as I discovered when I asked a very similar question) in the middle of resolving an amount of damage. So, you can't save your Garou from a Sewer Lid by tapping the mystic between resolving damage points 2 and 3, but any other time (say, between Blurred Hand strike 2 and 3) is fine. >what happens when allies/retainers get thefted. do they lose life?
