I've been lurking the messages here and have not seen an answer to the below questions. I'm sure I've probably missed something but if you could just bear with me here and maybe point me straight... I really would appreciate it! 1. I've a 'master' card that says unique location on it and it has a clan symbol on the left edge. Does this mean only a kindred of that clan can benifit from the card or does it mean I must have a -ready- kindred before I can play this card.. or both? EXAMPLE: Uptown Hunting Ground 2. When do you replace a card that leaves you hand? 3. What happens if _I_ put two of the exact vampire into active region? Do I follow the rules for contested cards? 4. What CAN a tapped vampire do? (Please include everything you can think of) 5. What can a tapped vampire NOT do?(Please include everything you can think of) 6. How long does an action modifier remain in play? 7. How long does an action card remain in play? 8. In a game with 2-4 players what do you feel is the ideal card total for your crypt? How about your library? 9. What percentage mix of manuvers, presses, equipment, master cards, action cards, etc... do you find being the most balanced for 2-4 player game play? I've played M:TG (or MT$ as I've seen it around here) for a few years so I understand that many of my questions about deck building really depends on what type deck I'm shooting for... but any general truisms on deck construction would be nice. Thanks a ton. +------------------------------------------------------------+ |"Child of the sunlight! I'm sure I've probably missed something but if you : could just bear with me here and maybe point me straight... I really : would appreciate it! They have all been asked before, but it is perfectly alright to ask them again. Shows that tehre are new players joining the game! : 1. I've a 'master' card that says unique location on it and it has a : clan symbol on the left edge. Does this mean only a kindred of that : clan can benifit from the card or does it mean I must have a -ready- : kindred before I can play this card.. or both? EXAMPLE: Uptown Hunting : Ground You have to have a vampire of that type out in order to bring it into play: once in play, it doesn't care who you have out. Thus, you could steal a Zoo Hunting Ground even if you didn't have any Gangrel. : 2. When do you replace a card that leaves you hand? In most cases, Immediately. Cards used during the voting process (other than the specific card used to call the vote) are not replaced until after the entire vote is over. Also, cards which say 'Do Not Replace until After Combat' are replaced either when combat is over, or when the action is totally completed (in case of no combat). : 3. What happens if _I_ put two of the exact vampire into active : region? Do I follow the rules for contested cards? Yes, you do. Generally considered a bad idea. :-) : 4. What CAN a tapped vampire do? (Please include everything you can : think of) Vote, if it has a title. Play cards which state they are usable by tapped vampires. Defend itself in combat. Be the recipient of other vampire's actions (getting rescued from Torpor, Giving up equipment if the other vampire is trying to take it...) : 5. What can a tapped vampire NOT do?(Please include everything you can : think of) Everything else. :-) (Sorry, but an exhaustive list of what someone _can't do is near-impossible...) : 6. How long does an action modifier remain in play? Until the end of the action. : 7. How long does an action card remain in play? If it does not say otherwise on the card, until the action is completed. Any other conditions will be stated in print on the specific action in question. : 8. In a game with 2-4 players what do you feel is the ideal card total : for your crypt? How about your library? Most people like the min. number of vamps in the library, no more than 15-17 usually. Deck size differs greatly depending on whether you are relying heavily on permanents, whether you have a combat-intensive deck (burns cards quickly, usually want the max.), or other considerations. : 9. What percentage mix of manuvers, presses, equipment, master cards, : action cards, etc... do you find being the most balanced for 2-4 : player game play? Again: depends totally on what sort of deck you are playing. A combat deck without presses is near-useless. A deck that relies heavily on Obfuscate needs almost no combat cards, as it is trying to actively avoid it. Maybe just a few dodges and the like... Ad infinitum. : I've played M:TG (or MT$ as I've seen it around here) for a few years : so I understand that many of my questions about deck building really : depends on what type deck I'm shooting for... but any general truisms : on deck construction would be nice. Curt Adams has written a couple of good articles on deck construction and clan-specific deck types. Maybe if you ask him nice he'll send them to you, or post them again. :-) Shane H.W. tra...@duke.usask.ca (Shane Travis) said this... RE:They have all been asked before, but it is perfectly alright to ask them RE:again. Shows that tehre are new players joining the game! <much badly needed help snipped> Thanks for the help Shane. Here's a few more questions I've been wondering about: 1. How many action modifiers can I play on a single action. Example: Can I play 'Conditioning' and to modify my vamp's bleed and also play 'Lost in Crowds' to modify the same bleed action? 2. Can a tapped ready vampire block? Could you point me to the rule or ruling that covers this? I can't seem to find anything on it. 3. What is the value of controlling 'The Edge'? I've only seen a single card that mentions it. I know that after a successful bleed by my minons I gain control of The Edge and place it on my side... but I don't know what to do with the thing! Am I missing a basic rule or is it totaly card oriented? BTW, around here we like to use the TV remote as The Edge. It's the most sought after object in the house anyway so it just felt -right-. :) Thanks for walking through these well worn questions for me. And as your reward I'll probably be back with even _more_ after a few more play sessions! ;) -- +------------------------------------------------------------+ |"The sacrifice is not of your body.| A quote from my | | It is... of my humanity." | namesake. --Tarrant | +------------------------------------------------------------+

It's actually kinda short. Card text excepted, tapped minions may do anything untapped minions can do with the exception of: Take an action. Play a Reaction Card. Attempt to Block. -- L. How many action modifiers can I play on a single action. Example: : Can I play 'Conditioning' and to modify my vamp's bleed and also play : 'Lost in Crowds' to modify the same bleed action? The only restrictions on Action Modifiers are one of each type per minion per action. The same applies to reaction cards. This is why there are several different types of cards which provide intercept/stealth: because only one of _each type_ can be used per action by the acting minion. : 2. Can a tapped ready vampire block? Could you point me to the rule : or ruling that covers this? I can't seem to find anything on it. No. This probably isn't the _most_ relevant part, but look at section 14, part 2. "If the action is blocked, the blocking minion is tapped and combat ensues." This implies that the blocking minion had to be untapped to start with. (I'm sure it says it outright somewhere in there, but I can't find anything better on a quick scan) : 3. What is the value of controlling 'The Edge'? I've only seen a : single card that mentions it. I know that after a successful bleed by : my minons I gain control of The Edge and place it on my side... but I : don't know what to do with the thing! Am I missing a basic rule or is : it totaly card oriented? Section 12.1 - Untap: "If you have the Edge, you may add 1 blood to your pool from the blood bank." Section 17.1 - Voting: "If you have the Edge, you may relenquish the Edge to the centre of the take in return for the right to cast one extra vote." Many people play that the Edge does not give additional blood in a 2-player game, as it is too easy to sit on it once it is controlled. : BTW, around here we like to use the TV remote as The Edge. It's the : most sought after object in the house anyway so it just felt -right-. : :) Works for me. Does the guy with the Edge get to decide what program you all are watching? One of each, unless the card says otherwise (eg the Bonding/Conditioning/Threats family). > 2. Can a tapped ready vampire block? Could you point me to the rule > or ruling that covers this? I can't seem to find anything on it. They cannot, although the rules do not appear to explicitly say so. Pages 28 and 29 both hint at this, as does Wakey. > 3. Am I missing a basic rule or is > it totaly card oriented? Three values: (1) If you keep it for a whole turn (until your next untap), it gives you 1 pool. (2) You can put it in the center to gain 1 vote. (3) It has uses when dealing with certain cards (eg surrendering it allows you to burn a Tragic Love Affair). J. Of course: with Lost in Crowds you can increase your stelth and with Conditioning you increase your bleed. You can't play more the _same_ action modifier twice during the same action with the same minion (same for reaction cards). >2. Can a tapped ready vampire block? Could you point me to the rule >or ruling that covers this? I can't seem to find anything on it. No. He can play reaction cards like Wake with Evenings Freshness or 2nd tradition, though, which allow him to do so. >3. What is the value of controlling 'The Edge'? If at the beginning of your turn you control the Edge you gain a pool from the blood bank (not so bad, eh? :)) Luca "Democritus" Consoli Web page: http://imoax1.unimo.it/~consoli
