> The Death pact deck revised, below is the old deck. > I have no idea if this will work but hell it looks soooo cool! I might even have the 7 Death Pacts required to build this! Alas, only one each of the Sargon Fragment and the VeniVidiVici Art S'ang. > Death Pact, Anyone? > Concept weenie DOM-nec-Thau Bleed and bruise. An attempt to use not one but > 3 > considered to be wallpaper cards, Julius, death pact, Patrizia giovanni!! > > Crypt: (15 cards) > 1 Jing Wei > 1 Brooke > 1 Ignatius > 1 Thelonius > 2 Sarah Cobbler Why 2 copies? because she has THA? You're still *taking* the damage; I can't think you'd want to actually take 2 normal damage in addition to whatever nastiness they do. > 4 Julius > 2 Isabel Giovanni Ah, blessed cheap NEC/DOM. Bet that *does* help this deck. =) > 3 Patrizia Giovanni > Library: (80 cards) > Master (16) > 1 Anarch Troublemaker For all the Masters in here, I'd leave this out. Great "in every deck," but sounds like hand jam for a trick deck like this. > 3 Blood Doll > 1 Creepshow Casino Another nice FN winner for a deck like this. > 3 Dominate > 2 Dreams of the Sphinx > 1 Giant's Blood See: Anarch Troublemaker. All the vamps are 5 or less. I'd go for Jake Washington, really. > 2 Heidelburg Castle, Germany > 1 Morgue Hunting Ground > 2 Path of Bones For all those Death Pacts and Summon Souls, I'd have to go for the Tower of London, as practically guaranteed pool gain. > Minion (64) > 4 Ambrosius > 2 Bomb "Ambrosius gets a bomb" module? And no meat hook? Remember that Ambrosius can't get Death Pact out of the ash heap, since it's an action card, not a retainer card. 3 copies seems enough, if you really want him. Even with the Chainsaw combo. > 10 Burst of Sunlight > 2 Call of the Hungry Dead I'd go for 4 copies. Just too damn good. > 7 Death Pact > 6 Deflection > 8 Govern the Unaligned Well, people WILL stop blocking you, so 2 Threats, 2 Conditioning, and 2 Forshadowing Destructions will be good so the bleeds still hurt when they stop blocking. > 1 Guiseppe, Gravedigger > 1 Leonardo, Mortician > 2 Magic of the Smith > 2 Sargon Fragment, the > 4 Scouting Mission > 5 Spectral Divination > 4 Summon Soul > 4 Talbot's Chainsaw No, really. You CAN make a Giovanni deck, even a goofy one, without the Ambrosius/Talbot's combo. However, I DO have to admit that having 2 Death Pacts on Amby, so you have to do 4 agg just to hurt him (preventing one with the Chainsaw), is pretty damn effective, not to mention funny. =) > 2 Veneriforum Artum Sanguis Funny that both new "get ability at superior items" are perfect for this deck. =) Like the original version, I'd have 5 Wakes, though. > Cool huh? +3 fun! -- Pat Ricochet Soul Jar'rn Fool of Atlanta

Not with Heidelburg . . . I guess Kherebutu and Akentahnen couldn't get a Death Pact retainer either, since the retainer has to be put on the >vampire< who played the action. Dang! Wouldn’t Ex Nihilo go well with a Death Pact?

Well, not if you're playing Weather Control (the Death Pact isn't a wraith immune to non-agg, though it really should be =). However the Spiritual Protector becomes actually useful, since you can Weather Control, etc. and still keep him. (And now that Charisma is out there to offset the cost...) In the grand scheme of things, a quantity of Leather Jackets might be better than the same number of Death Pacts. [ quoted text not captured ]

Charisma only lowers the cost of recruiting an ally, Spiritual Protector is a retainer. > In the grand scheme of things, a quantity of Leather Jackets might be > better than the same number of Death Pacts. I agree.

Just not one that's immune to non-agg damage. You can still use Shroud Mastery when recruiting them, of course... >> However the >> Spiritual Protector becomes actually useful, since you can Weather > Control, >> etc. and still keep him. (And now that Charisma is out there to offset > the >> cost...) > > Hmmm? Charisma only lowers the cost of recruiting an ally, Spiritual > Protector is a retainer. My bad. I really would go and read the card texts, but I'm trying to get work done and work today and keep the NG time to a minimum. =) I was originally going to say Regina, "Recruiting allies and employing retainers costs Regina 1 less pool or blood (but never less than 0 pool or blood)," and often equate Charisma with her ability, since it works that way in my Shambling Hordes deck. Didn't check over my last minute word change. >> In the grand scheme of things, a quantity of Leather Jackets might be >> better than the same number of Death Pacts. > > I agree. It's something I need to learn, personally. It seems that the whole world has caught onto how trippingly good Leather Jacket is, except us in Atlanta (David Davila excepted, who has them in every deck). I dunno, I'd just usually rather get an Ivory Bow, or have a Pushing the Limit, or a Skin of Steel, or a Majesty or...well, you see my problem. =) One Leather Jacket and one Embrace in every deck is really a Good Thing, and I should start applying it to my deckbuilding. But the point is that you can't use Shroud Mastery when playing Death Pact, right? (But you could for, say, the Spiritual Protector, which is what I got it confused with. The lack of an antecedent in 4 levels of quotes excuses my mistake here, of course. =) [ quoted text not captured ]

[snip] > Wouldn’t Ex Nihilo go well with a Death Pact? Actually I am currently thinking about a Giovanni Amaranth-Ex Nihilo deck. Ex Nihilo will provide the damage "prevention" while Death Pact will make sure I am not hurt. Kinda iffy but I think if it gets set up properly, I will be able to Rush, Torporize and have a weenie Giovanni Amaranth the Torpored vampire. Possibly Posses my vampire back, while Deamonically Possesssing the other. But this needs 4 Vampires, which is a BUT. Still it's a nice concept and will be only the second Giovanni deck I build with potence. Cheers:) Tim

Thanks Pat. I forgot a couple of cards due to cutting and pasting the original deck and filling them in. Here's the version I will be tweaking. Actually the Talbot-Ambrosius in here is something to torpoize Julius with, the same goes for the bombs. And as someone else points out, I could use Leather Jackets/Flak Jackets of course, but then it wouldn't be a Death Pact deck wouldn't it? The only problem I have with this version is the fact that it has 90 cards now. And I would like this to go around 70-75 cards. Any suggestions?? Crypt: (14 cards) 1 Jing Wei 1 Brooke 1 Ignatius 1 Thelonius 1 Sarah Cobbler 4 Julius 2 Isabel Giovanni 3 Patrizia Giovanni Library: (90 cards) Master (16) 3 Blood Doll 1 Creepshow Casino 3 Dominate 2 Dreams of the Sphinx 2 Heidelburg Castle, Germany 1 Inbase Discotheque 1 Morgue Hunting Ground 2 Path of Bones 1 Tower of London Minion (74) 2 Ambrosius 2 Bomb 9 Burst of Sunlight 2 Conditioning 4 Call for the Hungry Dead 7 Death Pact 6 Deflection 6 Fake Out 4 Foreshadowing Destruction 8 Govern the Unaligned 1 Guiseppe, Gravedigger 1 Leonardo, Mortician 2 Magic of the Smith 2 Sargon Fragment, the 2 Scouting Mission 4 Spectral Divination 4 Summon Soul 2 Talbot's Chainsaw 2 Veneriforum Artum Sanguis 4 Wake with Evening's Freshness Tim

[ quoted text not captured ] LOL! not your day today is it? :) I wonder why they made Death Pact a wraith if it doesn't really matter at all. Maybe it will matter in the future, but then they could change the Death Pact at that time. Roger

Possibly Posses my vampire back, while > Deamonically Possesssing the other. Of course, the "Torporize" part is hard when all damage your Ex-Nihilo'ed vampire does is reduced to zero. BTW, Did you mean "have a weenie Giovanni Amaranth the Torporized vampire," or "have a weenie Giovanni Diablerize the Torporized vampire? > But this needs 4 Vampires, which is a BUT. No, only 3. Gaspare, the Rush'n'Torp; Paul di Carlo, the Disposable Munching Machine, and Andrea, the Repo Man. You can Possess at your leisure (Possession has no "since your last turn" clause), or have Gaspare put Paul back atop your crypt unblockably. Or, you go the weenie Potence Rush horde backing up Andrea, the Repo Man. (see Giovanni newsletter III, 7, "Rush, Reuse, Recycle!" http://www.thelasombra.com/newsletter/giovanni_july_2001.htm for Wes's and my example =) > Still it's a nice concept > and will be only the second Giovanni deck I build with potence. I'm with you there. Just not many Potence cards I can't feel there's a Dominate card that would both serve me better, or a Necromancy card that would serve me better AND be more fun. (By the by, what was the first?) [ quoted text not captured ]

I really need to actually build this deck and play it. Each time you explain a bit more (usually correcting me =), the more I see how well it all fits together. > The only problem I have with this version is the fact that it has 90 > cards now. Govern and Deflection are pretty good at inferior, and you don't have *enough* Dominate skill cards to reliably get the Machine going. I'd drop one of these. (-1 card) > 2 Dreams of the Sphinx Cardcycling GOOD. But this isn't *quite* enough. > 2 Heidelburg Castle, Germany > 1 Inbase Discotheque This is fluff, really. What you NEED is a Barrens and/or Fraggy. > 1 Morgue Hunting Ground > 2 Path of Bones Really, you've not got that many cards that need this. Just for deck size and hand jam, I'd have only one copy, or not even bother. I know, it's hard to resist, but with only 2 copies, you might as well not count on it, and then maybe just drop them. (-2 cards) > 1 Tower of London > > Minion (74) > 2 Ambrosius > 2 Sargon Fragment, the > 2 Talbot's Chainsaw > 2 Veneriforum Artum Sanguis All unique cards. You could drop 1 of each, but then you wouldn't see them. And if that Magic of the Smith gets blocked, you can neither Magic of the Smith nor Grasp the Ghostly it back, so you need 2 copies (Of course, being able to Summon Soul and then MagicOTS is +2 fun!), BUT you've got 4 discards spoken for, there. 12 turn games and all, you need a Barrens for the extra discards. > 2 Bomb > 9 Burst of Sunlight > 2 Conditioning > 4 Call for the Hungry Dead > 7 Death Pact > 6 Deflection > 6 Fake Out > 4 Foreshadowing Destruction > 8 Govern the Unaligned > 1 Guiseppe, Gravedigger > 1 Leonardo, Mortician > 2 Magic of the Smith > 2 Scouting Mission > 4 Spectral Divination > 4 Summon Soul > 4 Wake with Evening's Freshness Some of these cards you've got a lot of, and may or may not need so many. Take out 1 Death Pact, 1 Deflection, 2 Fake Out, 1 Foreshadowing, 2 Burst of Sunlight, 1 Call of the Hungry Telemarketers, 1 Spectral Divination, 1 Deflection to remove 10 cards. Add 3 more Summon Soul for a total of 7 so you can *recycle* the cards that you DO need. (-7 cards) And that's down to a slimmer 80 cards with only 13 Masters, and with 7 Summon Soul for "90 card potential." =) [ quoted text not captured ]

Yeah but then they could have changed text on DP at that time. Right now it seems pointless and only (possibly) confusing.
