Here's another puzzler for you:
IN a DCI tournament game, how many ways can you not lose any pool to a
successful domain challenge that you call?
[I'm not talking about gaining more pool than you lose, I am talking

and here's a hint:
Domain Challenge
Cardtype: Political Action
Political Card-Worth 1 Vote. Called by any vampire at +1 stealth.
Successful <referendum> means each Methuselah burns 1 pool for each
tapped minion he or she controls.

I can only think of 2 ways.
* Call the vote on the first action of your turn and Bribe it.
* Control Alexandra and another Toreador. Call the vote on
the first action of your turn and during the PA, use Alexandra's
special during the referendum.
Sorrow

Well, then the only way I can think of is with Alexandra. Although,
I still think the above should be valid. :p

hmmm, I can think of 2 for sure.
1.) Masika calls the vote before the first vote is cast, the untapped
Alexandra untaps Masika.
2.) Muaziz, equiped with Rutor's Hand, calls the vote, untaps herself

Okay, here's what I think of off the top of my head:
1. Minion with Rutor's hand untaps after action is successful, but before
end of referendum (as has been mentioned)
2. Minion with fortitude untaps with Freak Drive. (Both seem to happen at
the end of the action, and since there seems not to be any rulings on the
matter, I'm going to say that I can order the effects so I don't lose a
pool.)
3. A variation on everybody's Alexandria-untaps-acting-toreador solution,
(so Alexandria doesn't wind up tapped.)
Alexandria has a temptation that you control with counters equal to the
amount of blood on Alexandria. (and to get to this point you will have to
have gained control of Alexandria by some means, let's just say you used
Form of Corruption.)
Your Toreador calls the vote, you tap Alexandria to untap the Toreador,
then burn the counters on the corruption and take control of Alexandria
from yourself, and she untaps. :) No pool loss.
4. Julius has a fortitude master. He calls the vote with a Day Operation.
At the end of the action when Julius should go to torpor, his card text
causes him to burn instead. The vampire no longer exists, so you can't
lose one for the domain challenge.
That's all I can think of for now. There's probably another rogue solution
or two out there.

I'm not exactly sure, but I'm I think we could do SOMETHING with Madness
Network. Exactly what are the rules for playing Reaction cards? Does it not
have to be your turn, or do you not have to be the acting minion's controller?
Another question, what happens if you lose/gain control of a vampire while he's
doing an action? Does the action stop, does it complete first, or does the new
controller effectively perform the action? Depending on the answer, Malkavian
Dementia and Ayelea the Manipulator might possibly be able to do something.

Burn the vamp who's calling the vote to pay your dues to the Antediluvian
awakening - this can be done anytime. Also i think Sorrow's Bribes
solution is fine since you don't suffer a NET pool loss, and if so then
superior Voter Cap would work too.

Just as a reminder - the above note should make it explicit that
gaining pool does not mean that you have not lost pool.
So Bribes, Voter Cap and any solutions like that do not count

Rutor's Hand=Solution #1

Freak Drive works at the end of the action, after the referendum counts
your tapped minions, so this does not work.

Julius burns at the end of the action, after you lose a pool for him
being tapped at the end of the referendum.

Incorrect:
A player can burn a vampire (to burn the Antediluvian Awaking) only
during her untap phase. [RTR 19980623]

Both are specifically excluded by the phrasing of the question, so
neither of these count.

1.Rutor's Hand
2.Alexandra
3.Temptation on your own [recently corrupted] minion
Solution #4 follows #3 rather obviously.
Solutions #5 can be achieved any of two ways, which only count as one
path to the solution (and that is all the hinting you get).
Any takers?

There愀 other possible response similar to this, but correct. You can
call the vote with a non-camarilla vampire and destroy it tu burn a
played Judgement: Camarilla Segregation. (Put this card in play. Each
Methuselah controlling a Non-Camarilla vampire burns 1 pool <during>
his or her untap phase. Any Methuselah may burn this card by burning a
Non-Camarilla vampire he or she controls during his or her minion
phase.)

Two more additional ways:
* Vamp A: 2 cap with Tham and an Infernal Familiar calls the vote, it
doesn't get blocked. During the referendum uses enough skill based
action modifiers via the Infernal Familiar to cause her to burn.
* Another variation of the burning aspect though, you're minion gets to
the referendum, then plays Business Pressure. You then use every last
bit of pool you have into the vote, ousting yourself. Thus never
losing any pool for the Domain Challenge.

All right, contining on a theme...
Your Malkavian has a temptation and counters equal to blood. There is a
Madness Network in play. At the end of the acting player's minion phase
who controls the temptation, you call the vote with your tempted
Malkavian. During the referendum, the other player takes control of your
Malkavian. You no longer have a tapped (or soon to be tapped) minion.
I really don't think this is unique enough to be a new solution. It
still relies on the temptation mechanic.
> Solutions #5 can be achieved any of two ways, which only count as one
> path to the solution (and that is all the hinting you get).
You call the vote with a minion that has presence. That minion modifies
the vote with business pressure. The other methuselahs oust themselves
for whatever reason... (Perhaps they would have been ousted by the vote
anyway) You win the game before the referendum ends.
I rather doubt this is the solution #5 you refered to.

I checked, you're right. I was up late... Which means that you can
separate them into two solutions. Use Alexandra for one and use
corruptions to take control of the acting minion when he would normally
tap.

But the question, a Stu explained it, wasn't to come out even in the NET

I think we're at 5*, as follows: (*unless LSJ swoops in and invalidates

1. Rutor's Hand
2. Alexandra
3. Freak Drive
4. Corruption
5. Julius/Day Operation

I am still in discussions with LSJ regarding the validity of burning
either the acting minion or the acting Meth. There are many ways to do
either during an action, however, I continue to stipulate that if
either the minion or the meth are burned before the Domain Challenge
counts tapped minions, then the Domain Challenge action has not been
sucessfully completed and passed. Perhaps that is not technically true
in game terms, but that certainly exceeds my intentions in this puzzler.
So far there is one path that has not been explored.
It involves getting blocked. and no more hints should be necessary.

The vampire is above 3 capacity and burns itself to burn an Antediluvian

Okay, here's another try:
Vampire that performs the Domain Challenge action gets blocked: he uses Form of
Mist to end combat and continue the action. Opposing minion or Methusaleh uses
Psyche!/Fast Reaction to restart another combat. I'm guessing that this means
that the action will still continue (since it wasn't "blocked" again), and this
time the acting Vampire uses Majesty/Earth Meld to untap and end combat. Since
the action wasn't technically "blocked" the second time, it continues, and the
acting vampire is also untapped. Does this work or did I miss something?

It Almost works.
Again the words of LSJ foil you.
Psyche! - Combat (cel)
The superior will cancel any "continue action" effect produced during

Okay, I've found the 'rather obvious' Solution #4:
You have a vampire with superior dominate, say Lucian, use Mind Rape at
Superior on a younger vampire you control, say Merrill Molitor with two
Fortitude masters. Merrill, now tapped, uses Force of Will to bleed,
then changes the FoW damage from aggravated to normal, and then Freak
Drives when the action is successful.
During your next minion phase, Merrill calls the Domain Challenge, and
during the referendum, you use the Mind Rape effect to untap him and
take control of Merrill from yourself.
Still working on #5,
Rob Grau
rfg...@eos.ncsu.edu
The Mind Rape card text {with errata} is below.
Cost: 2 blood
(D) Bleed with +2 bleed. (S) (D) Put this card on a younger vampire {and
tap that vampire. The vampire with this card does not untap as normal
during his controller's untap phase. During the acting vampire's
controller's next minion phase, he or she must burn this card to untap
the vampire and take control of the vampire until the end of his or her
turn}.

How about Fast Reaction? Is it the same situation there? And is it possible
to use the Majesty/Earth Meld first and then use a Form of Mist? I usually
don't use these cards myself, so I'm not exactly sure about all of the rulings.

I don't quite understand the question. Once you have used the Majesty or
Earth Meld, combat will end. You do not continue the action, nor go into
another combat. How can Form of Mist be used?

Oh, I meant that you use the Majesty before the Psyche and the Form after the
Psyche, instead of vice versa. In other words, I meant that a Psyche would be
used in between. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes. Fast Reaction still regards the other minion as acting, so Form of
Mist could be played by them to continue the action they are acting on.
Card Text from Rulemonger:
Fast Reaction
Cardtype: Reaction
Discipline: Auspex
Only usable after a blocking minion you control other than this vampire
has just completed combat. Tap this vampire. This vampire now enters
combat with the <acting> minion. The first round of this new combat, the
<acting> minion cannot use any strikes. (S) As above, with an optional
press.

Erk, what on earth was I reading? I thought you said FR, not Form, and
ignored Psyche. Bizarre, I was conscious when I wrote it, I think.
I see no reason why Pysche actually aborts the action that the block was
part of. As far as I can see, the action is still going. Form of Mist
could, IMHO, be played in the second combat in order to continue the
action.

Here's the list of ideas which work:
Untap Solutions
1. Rutor's Hand untaps the acting minion.
2. Alexandra untaps the acting Toreador.
3. Temptation on your own acting minion.
4. Mind Rape on your own acting minion.
5. Earth Meld + Psyche + Form of Mist to finish an action untapped.
Burn acting Minion Solutions
6. Acting vampire uses Infernal Familiar to play Bewitching Oration,
but gains his final investment counter and is burned.
7. Julius, has Clan Impersonated a Malkavian Antitribu and plays Walk
through Arcadia during the referendum, spending his last blood. The
coin comes up tails.
8. Burn the acting non-Camarilla vampire via 'Judgment: Camarilla
Segregation' during the referendum.
9. Burn the acting Brujah vampire via 'Judgment: Death to the Brujah!'
during the referendum.
Oust Self During the Referendum Solutions
10. Scorn of Adonis (voting one against with one pool)
11. Business Pressure (spending all of your pool)
12. Oxford University (spending all of your pool)
Please note that the Burn self solutions and Oust self solutions work
based on the exact verbage of the question. However, they were not
solutions that I was intending to extract. Thanks to LSJ for the leg
work find all the pathological solutions.
