Shambling horde vs. Lucian

Situation: Lucian and a Shambling horde with 4 life on close range in combat , both use a handstrike, would lucian take 3 or 4 damage?

Three. Hordes spends one to declare: hand strike against Lucian. Then when strike resolution rolls around, the strike is applied: strength (3) damage. [ quoted text not captured ]
