This came up in a game I played a few weeks ago and started all sortsa arguments. Jeff Stevens has Normal with a obf skill card on him, and Gideon Fontaine out. 1) He taps Gideon to enchant kindred (minor) to directed +1 his prey. 2) His prey announces a blocker 3) He Mask of a thousand faces with Normal. 4) Everybody started bitching. Our arguments/questions 1) Normal can't directed +1 his prey, right? No presence. 2) Jeff claimed that the action became a bleed at no bonus for one stealth 3) Our contention was that Normal couldn't take the action at all, not that he didn't get the bonus bleed. My understanding was not that Enchant Kindred was a card that gave you a bonus on your bleed action, but rather it was an action that would result in a bonus bleed if successful. Which is it? If Enchant Kindred is a card that must be played as the action is announced that gives a bonus on a bleed action then Normal just wouldn't get the bonus and would continue with an unadjusted bleed at 1 stealth. If Enchant Kindred is an action in and of itself, that happens to result in a bonus bleed, then Normal can't even do the mask, right? And Mike gets to beat up Gideon with his blocker? Anyway, this seemed pretty clear to me until you guys started talking about (d) symbols being nothing more than reminders of stuff...

I'll do my best LSJ: This came up in a game I played a few weeks ago and started all sortsa arguments. Correct. Doesn't matter in this case. And doesn't that mean the same thing? Ah damn, you blew my LSJ cover. I see what you mean now. By your first definition here, Enchant Kindred would be an action modifier, which it is not. It is an action "in and of itself" to bleed for +1 pool. And yes, Mike would get to beat up Gideon with his blocker if Gideon could not avoid being blocked some other way. That is assuming that your friend Jeff would still attempt that action with Gideon after learning that he could not Mask the action if Gideon was blocked as he had intended. And a quick card text to boot: Mask of 1000 Faces - Action Modifier (obf) * The action remains the same - the level (superior/inferior) doesn't change, the target cannot be changed, any other parameters of the action do not change, etc. [LSJ 971201] * Mask cannot be used to mask an action if the Masking vampire is not capable of taking that action, nor if any action modifiers have been played on this action that could not have been played if the Masking vampire were the acting minion. (Not counting blood that has already been spent.) [RTR 980623] * Mask cannot be played during the resolution of an action (like during the referendum of a political action or during combat). [LSJ 980825] p.

No presence. Correct. Normal couldn't play enchant kindred, so he can't Mask it, either. > 2) Jeff claimed that the action became a bleed at no bonus for one stealth Incorrect. The action is "inferior enchant kindred" not "bleed". It is a "bleed action type", but that's a different story. > 3) Our contention was that Normal couldn't take the action at all, not that > he didn't get the bonus bleed.
