Bringing this question from the WW-forum. Why can the Shadow Court Satyr go to torpor with inferior thn version of Ashes to Ashes? The untap and going to torpor is applied to 'this vampire' and not 'this minion' and the satyr is not a vampire. Similar rulings have been made for for example the discipline enhancing equipments where allies may equip with them but definitely not gaining the benefits from them as they can only be applied to 'The vampire with', 'this vampire' etc. Sten During

They play it as a vampire, but when it resolves, they're an ally. Or they play it as a vampire, but when they come to use the ability, they're an ally. Ashes to Ashes is played and used all at once. -- James Coupe PGP 0x5D623D5D It's been a long road, getting from there to here EBD690ECD7A1FB457CA213D7E It's been a long time, and my time is finally near 668C3695D623D5D I will see my dream come alive at last, I will touch the sky And they're not gonna hold me down no more, no they're not gonna change my mind

[LSJ 07-DEC-2001] So if ShadowCourt plays Ashes to Ashes he goes to torpor and cannot be rescued because he is an ally while in torpor and there is no such thing as rescue an ally in torpor, correct? Rant Why is there no rule that says "ignore any effect that would send an ally to torpor"?

Right. > Rant > Why is there no rule that says "ignore any effect that would send an ally to > torpor"? If there were a rule, it would say "any effect that would send an ally to torpor sends the ally to the ash heap instead". That's what a dirt nap looks like when applied to an ally. But there are too few cases where this rule would come into play, and they're all uninteresting (from a competitive POV), so there's no need to add the rule for the few corner cases that will never be used practically.
