Why does Burst of Sunlight hurt allies who play it? (It didn't use to in the latest unofficail ruleings comp I had, which I thought was great even thought I do remember reading about it in a more current rulling, but just chose to ignore that, and hope that realism might take precedence) I think that that is the stupidist thing in the world. Lets image this scenario lets say I am a mage, and I happen to be able to cast spells which resemble vampric abilites, and I block a vampire (at night of course) who was going to spread lies about the vampire I was recruited to work for(or his boss rather, but I don't know that) and so I am in combat with this scary vampire, and I am a mage, a human being who is used to walking around in the daytime holds down a 9-5 job as a lawyer and just happens to go off wizarding at night as a hobby. This vampire sees me coming from afar, and fires his 5-shot 22 revolver at me(saturday night special) now I can take it it's just a flesh wound, I'm a mage, I'll just visit my vagabond mystic friend tomarrow he'll patch it up.(note the vagabond can't block vampires, because he isn't up at night but that's off subject) so any way I decided I'll just work a little magic and make it daytime at night, arrgh the vampire screams in pain and starts burning. Ahhhh but wait I was using an ability as a vampire, so I become one too for a little bit, and now the same sunlight that I am used to walking under all day seven days a weeks is going to hurt me, how bloody ridiculous is that? The only way I could think off a defensible explanation is that burst of sunlight is more like I create a little ball of plasma mini sun sorta thing, and it's so hot I get hurt a little to, but then that wouldn't explain why my foe's pet raven, two layer friends, and pack of dogs weren't burned(not play burned real burned took some damage) from the burst of sunlight as well. So after a very bad experence casting burst of sunlight, the next night I decide to forge some documents, regarding one of my employers arch nemesises, now I am well mystified and all healed up, so I'm not really worried. However I get caught entering the congressional committe records building by a nast enemy of mine, Aylea the manipulator. I use my inate ability to move to get far from her, and then I decide to steal some of her blood to give myself more life(very vampric really) and she having heard about my escape last night and nowing that if something were to happen to her her gargoyle's would save her from torporous slumber, and wanting to give me a taste of my own medicine, she makes a burst of sunlight appear. And I laugh as she screams in pain from the sunlight, and nothing happens to me because I am a mage, and unaffected by sunlight, unless I cast it. I'm not totally up to date (or even close to it) for Mage games, but I know enough that magic doesn't come cheap. especially vulgar magic. -JTP

[ quoted text not captured ] And maybe we'll let that small nonsense go by, because it is soooo much better than the May Ruling, and apparently necessary for game coherence / simplicity...

A card that requires a Discipline can only be played by a vampire who has that Discipline. [1.6.1.3] Of course, card text can override this rule. In fact, some allies can play BoS "as a vampire", because their card text override the rule. That card text is a double-edged sword. It enables the ally to play the card, but it also opens him up to the effect of the play of the card. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc.
