(LSJ) Imbued enters play / Conviction

When an Imbued enters play I can put a Conviction on him from library/hand/ash-heap. What if I search my library and fail to find a Conviction, can I still take from hand/ash-heap? Can I deliberately fail to find a Convicition in my library even if there is one for the sake of shuffling my library (e.g bringing up cards from Heart of Cheating)?

If you choose your library and you know that you don't have any left, you are playing in a less sports manner, but I don't think it is an illegal play. It's plenty sportsmanlike, assuming you're stalling.
