Hurt myself, contest myself logic question

Hello, i know that i'm going to question a rule established since long time, however, in my mind question is: Why a methuselah can contest cards with himself, while his/her minions cannot enter in combat one another? This seems illogical, since a Methuselah could not strive (paying pool) for the control of a minion/resource he already controls; while minions represent separate beings, and they should be able to fight each other, even with the same master's other minions. I know that the rule of "no combat between my minions" was made after the "hurt myself" problem with Fame, but that card's errata no longer allows such a thing (and since a long time) So why keep still such a rule? They are complete different functions. Why should these two things be related? You may only have one copy of a unique card in play, there has to be some mechanic/rule for resolving how to bring in a different copy of that same unique card. > This seems illogical, since a Methuselah could not > strive (paying pool) for the control of a minion/resource > he already controls; Right, in "real life" or in an RPG a Methuselah would not contest for control of anything with themselves. This is not real life or an RPG, it is a CCG, and the rules are based on this fact. > while minions represent separate beings, > and they should be able to fight each other, even with the same > master's other minions. Ok, on my turn, Prince #1 calls Anathema on one of my vampires with only one blood. Prince #2 Bums Rush that vampire with only one blood. Both vampires strike hands for one. The Anathema'd vampire is burned, and I regain the pool for that vampire. Why should this be encouraged? What other reason do you have that would make sense? You control the minions. You should not want them to be fighting amongst themselves, but rather doing your will upon the table. > I know that the rule of "no combat between my minions" was > made after the "hurt myself" problem with Fame, but > that card's errata no longer allows such a thing (and since a long > time). How do you know that? Where did you find the beginning of that rule? > So why keep still such a rule? What benefit does it bring to the game to do away with it? Carpe Noctem. A possible reason (besides designer intent) for the rule would be to keep card cycling to a minimum. > that card's errata no longer allows such a thing (and since a long > time) So why keep still such a rule? It isn't tied to the Fame abuses. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) VTES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc.
