So you're saying that I can "force" my prey to pay when I rescue a Famed vampire that I had just torpored?

[ quoted text not captured ] "Force" only inasfar as the target's controller doesn't block, yes. [ quoted text not captured ]

Sorry if I am the Suspecting Thomas or something but this question has risen many times in our playgroup, and we(that is Turku playgroup) have thought that the acting minion's controller cannot force the rescued vampire to pay... Doubt not the word of LSJ. (or the earth will topple off of its axis and we'll all be destroyed!) ;-) -JTP

[ quoted text not captured ] Really so. When an action resolves, the cost is paid. There is no choice at that time. If the vampire in torpor decides to rescue himself, then he cannot decide not to pay the cost when the action resolves. If a vampire attempts Force of Will and is somehow obliged to pay for an action modifier that he hadn't expected to need to pay (leaving him with only 1 blood), he cannot choose not to pay the cost of the Force of Will when the action resolves (even though paying will mean that the 2agg damage burns him while not paying would mean that he just goes to torpor empty). Additionally, the decisions about the action are made by the acting minion. When a minion plays a Bum's Rush, the target cannot "choose" not to be the target. When a vampire rescues another from torpor, the target cannot "choose" no to be the target, nor can he "choose" not to be selected to pay some or all of the cost. The acting vampire chooses.
