What can exactly play Talaq ? Quietus and Thaumaturgy cards, right. What about Taste of Vitae ? Is he considered a Vampire for disciplineless cards ?

In article <8odm3b$2bk$1...@front7m.grolier.fr>, [ quoted text not captured ] No he is 'only' able to play QUI and THAU cards as though he has the basic level of those disciplines, just like Ian Forrestal does not have the disciplines but may play any discipline cards at basic level. Other than that Talaq is an ally like the others. So taste is out.. No. He is an ally. Since Taste of Vitae is only playable by a vampire, Talaq cannot play it. He special ability to play certain cards "as a vampire" does not extend to Taste, since it is not one of the designated cards. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. I was wondering could Talaq, the Immortal play infernal familiar, and use the inherent ability of the familiar? If so what is his capacity? Comments Welcome, Norman S. He can employ the retainer (as a vampire with Thaumaturgy), but he does not benefit form the retainer, since the retainer only allows "vampires" to play cards that require disciplines they do not possess, and Talaq is not a vampire. [LSJ 10-JUL-1997] Right, here is where I point out that Talaq may play cards requiring thaum and quiet as a vampire of cap 3. So Talaq is playing other discipline card via the infernal familiar which allows vampires to play cards which require disciplines that they do not possess. Wouldn't this therefore allow Talaq to be treated as a 3 cap vampire for the purposes of a thaumaturgy card (i.e. infernal familiar) to play cards requiring disciplines that he does not possess. If not, please explain, because it specifically says that he would be treated as a 3 cap vampire specificall for use of thaumaturgy and quietus cards. [ quoted text not captured ]

So he plays Infernal Familiar as a vampire of cap 3. Now Infernal Familiar is *in play*, and his special ability no longer applies to it, since it only takes effect when he is actually *playing* cards requiring THA or QUI. Since he's not playing the Familiar, he's no longer a vampire, and therefore can't use the Familiar. >disciplines that he does not possess. Which he cannot do, since the Infernal Familiar's ability only extends to the "vampire with this retainer". Talaq doesn't qualify as a vampire at that time. > Wouldn't this > therefore allow Talaq to be treated as a 3 cap vampire for the purposes > of a thaumaturgy card (i.e. infernal familiar) to play cards requiring > disciplines that he does not possess. If not, please explain, because > it specifically says that he would be treated as a 3 cap vampire > specificall for use of thaumaturgy and quietus cards. His text doesn't say "for use of". He can "play" Infernal Familiar as a vampire, but that doesn't allow him to "use" the Familiar's ability as a vampire. [ quoted text not captured ]

>>Since Taste of Vitae is only playable by a vampire<< Well, ever since I picked up a Shadow Court Satyr at the GenCon Sabbat booster draft (BTW, he was not help in the tournament since I rarely had a combat card in my hand when the SCS was in my hand), I have wondered whether you could place a Taste of Vitae on the Satyr. I would have to think you could, since Taste of Vitae is a combat card. I'm not sure it would be a whole lot of use, but it might protect the SCS against most or many vampires in combat. Anyway, just a thought, Madman [ quoted text not captured ]

So just to be sure, if you replace the word "vampire" with "minion" in the text of 'Infernal Familiar', Talaq would be able to benefit from the Familiar's ability, correct? Possibly, but allies cannot play cards that require disciplines in the first place, so any card that gives an ally such an ability would likely offer more details on the arrangement. No, he couldn't use it. Taste benefits "this vampire", and the Satyr doesn't qualify. [ quoted text not captured ]

Talaq doesn't have a capacity, when the Infernal Familiar is in play. If the number of investment counters on the Familiar is greater than his controller's capacity, burn the controlling vampire. As such, it would make it interesting to determine when he would be burned. I would probably burn him the first time he used a card, were it to say minion. Also: The vampire with this retainer can play a card that requires a Discipline he or she does not have as if he or she had the basic level of that Discipline Talaq's wording tends to suggest that the "Any cost" is "Any cost <for these Quietus and Thaumaturgy cards we just mentioned>", and so he wouldn't be able to pay any blood costs on this new discipline anyway. However, Talaq is deeply, deeply cool. -- James Coupe | PGP Key 0x5D623D5D | ja...@zephyr.org.uk (New e-mail) "Who'd have ever predicted the moment would come when I find myself grateful they've kept women dumb? He can. You play them, though, as is if from your hand. If you played Taste of Vitae from your hand on SCS, you couldn't play it. So you can put ToV on SCS, you just can't use it. True. And Shadow Court Satyr is a legal target for the Taste of Vitae, when you bring him into play - it's a combat card, you put it on him, as per card text. Shadow Court Satyr does not require that he is actually able to *use* the card that is put on him. When you come to *use* the card, you are unable to. [ quoted text not captured ]
