The card text says: ---- Requires a ready vampire. If this vampire is Ravnos, this action is at +1 stealth. Put this card on the acting vampire. During your untap phase, burn this card, and each other Methuselah chooses a ready vampire he or she controls who is not older than this vampire. If you control a ready Lasombra, you choose the vampires instead. This vampire and the chosen vampires go to torpor. ---- Well, while playing has come out a question on the meaning of "you choose the vampires instead". Does the Lasombra playing the Purge still have to choose not-older vampires, or could (i.e.) Igniatio send into torpor old aunt Arika? Sorry for the maybe stupid question but we (I and my playing group) have not still totally mastered the English grammar -__-

The choice must still conform to the parameters given (you can't choose two controlled by the same Methuselah, for example, either). -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. If you don't control a ready Lasombra when the Purge is played, but you do control a ready Lasombra when the Purge is burned, do you get to pick the vampires? Is there precedent for this sort of thing, and if so, what should I be using to guide myself to the correct answer? I couldn't think of anything similar. Ira

[ quoted text not captured ] Baltimore Purge [CE:U] Cardtype: Action Requires a ready vampire. I think that the key to assessing this is the timing of the effects of the card. The first part - basically, the first two sentences - are relevant when playing the card, and the rest is basically ignored until the trigger event ("during your untap phase") occurs. It is then that the rest of the effect is assessed and resolved. Part of that delayed effect checks whether you have a ready Lasombra in play. -- Bye, Daneel
