out of topic, but i couldn't help it. Greece, the total outsider of the tournament, has just won it.

Chris Shorb

They keep saying Greece had 12 Ancient Gods (and 11 new ones on the pitch etc etc.). Who are the 12 Ancient greek Gods? Zeus Athena Hera Hermes Hephaestus Aphrodite and then my brain sputters out. Any help? chris Jyhad_addict wrote: > out of topic, but i couldn't help it. > Greece, the total outsider of the tournament, has just won it. -- chris shorb prince of torrance, where the 5th tradition rules.

Other well known gods are Artemis, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes, Apollo, and Ares. There are a lot more "minor" gods, like Helios for example, but those are the only major gods I can name off the top of my head. Then again I haven't slept in two days so I'm sure my brain's not up to the task at the moment. [ quoted text not captured ]

Well, totally OT, but I can't help it either WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!! None could even score a goal against us in the knock-out games!

[ quoted text not captured ] Seems to me that we have here some similarities to VTES, refering to all those Intercept decks out there. ;) The only thing I am missing is someone who wins a qualifier or the EC with a Samedi or Baali only deck. Heck, I would even come up with some sort of special price for the best outsider deck who makes it into the top ten at the EC. -- Andreas Nusser www.vekn.de a.nu...@vekn.de

Well, their version of football is quite intriguing. More like an Intercept Wall deck... ;) Still, it worked fine (even though beating the Czechs seemed pretty much luck to me, those guys kicked major ass with their premium football). Bye, Daneel

I don't know if they were twelve, there are certainly more gods than that in the greek mythology. Hestia, Dionysus, Demeter, Poseidon, Apollon, Eros, Ares, Pan, Artemis, Hades, Eris etc, on top of those already listed. What's funny though is that the greek coach has been officially allowed to drive his car in the bus lanes of Athens.

Yea, see, this thread is 16 posts long and counting. Longer than any sales or trade post. Borderline flooding the newsgroup. But since I know that newsgroup logic doesn't sway you, you just keep picking and choosing according to your own standards, OK? :P > Peter D Bakija > pd...@lightlink.com > http://www.lightlink.com/pdb6 > > "Mr. President, ask not what your rest home can do for you. > Ask what you can do for your rest home." > -Elvis Kevin M., Prince of Henderson, NV (USA) [ quoted text not captured ]

(Actually, it would be "all the posts about <the respective thing> if such off-topic posts were wink-and-nod'ed into the charter. But one cannot easily count such things. And, of course, you shouldn't count meta-topic posts like your, Peter's, and this one of mine in the count for the off-topic ones). -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. Kevin M. wrote: > Yea, see, this thread is 16 posts long and counting. Longer than any > sales or trade post. Borderline flooding the newsgroup. Yeah, but see, it isn't going to be a recurring issue. It is off topic, yeah. Lots of off topic discussions come up all the time. As long as they aren't wildly out of control and recurring, they don't bother me at all. E-bay/slaes posts, however, are both specifically disallowed by the charter and a recurring nusiance. By encouraging people who post them to read the FAQ, perhaps they'll not do it again in the future. And the same goes for people who see the sales/trade post, see the FAQ attatched to it, and might figure that they shouldn't do so. > > But since I know that newsgroup logic doesn't sway you, you just keep > picking and choosing according to your own standards, OK? :P I was planning on it. I'm not in charge here. I'm not required to adhere to any particular logic or standard, other than, ya know, my own. I just post according to what I think is a good idea. I don't feel like hassling people for posting an off topic, but one time and harmless thread. I do feel like hassling people for posting sales/trade posts, as they are a recurring issue, and I'd like to encourage them to not recur. 'Cause if we don't hassle people for doing so, they will show up all the time. It strikes me as wildly unlikely, however, that threads about European Soccer Championships will show up ever again. Let alone all the time. Apparently, this logic sticks in your craw. But I'm gonna keep doing it anyway. Eh. What are you gonna do? [ quoted text not captured ]

Define 'outsider' decks, please. :) Challenge is good... So my Samedi Shambling from the german ECQ wouldn't be 'outsider' enough because I don't pack 100% Samedi? (sorry Mr. Bakija, I just couldn't help. I'll try to relate to VTES, though) When it comes to worldwide soccer, history shreds the logic of this quote to bits. It could seem true when you do review the last few European Championships, but I'd hardly say that "defense wins championships" when the country who won the largest number of World Cups is a steady supporter of the offensive stance. Geez, as a brazilian, I had to throw it out of my system. :) But I understand that collective-oriented sports could benefit that much from defense-heavy tactics when the score is settled in high standards. If a game can end up with scores like 110 x 89, defense really plays a very important role on the final result. Soccer is not like this. If you do place your bets in a strong defense to guarantee an even match, you could suffer a goal in a one single moment of luck, special well-placed movement by your adversary or something similar, and you're out. You just can't defend perfectly at all times, something that any basketball team should now and is prepared to deal with it (i.e., refining the quick counter-attacks). One single kick that went a little more to the right direction, and the whole game would change from that point on, and no more Greece European Champions. I do dislike that a lot. Guess V:TES is in some kind of limbo between a high-scoring collective game (where defense plays a big role) and a mid-scoring individual sport (where you should be able to break through your opponent's defense steadly to win). You can play defense at times, like a tennis player who won a set and is getting a little tired, but you *must* know how and when to begin and stop this. If it's the Year of the Intercept, it certainly would be the Year of the Uninspired Attacks too ;-) cheers, Fabio Sooner VTES NC for Brazil
