Wolf Claws (and its ilk) question

I found the following ruling: Wolf Claws, and related cards, must be played before the end of the Choose Strike phase if they are to count for the current strike. For example, playing them during the Check Damage phase won't affect strikes already played. The attacker chooses their strike first and then the defender. Can the attacker announce using wolf claws after the defender declares their strike. Is after the defender chooses their strike still the choose strike phase or is it too late? ^ ^ | ^ \|/ ha...@shadow.net <---x---> Scott Marcellus /|\ http://www.shadow.net/~havok V | V V

In our games and my humble opinion. the combat phase is very strict meaning who ever is doing the action. Starts the comabt. like so. attacker no manuver defender no manuver attacker normal strike defender normal strike then figure damage then presses Once you have decixded no manuver or no strike you don't get to go back. You must do it in your turn. Or you lose out. Course you couls always do a press and do it the second time aorund. }:>) Methuselah Midnght [ quoted text not captured ]

Scott, It is my understanding that the current ruling on Wolf Claws and their ilk is that they must be played before the damage resolution subphase of the combat. But this means that there is a window between the defender choosing a stike and the damage resolution where both people can play Claws. That is the last official ruling I have seen from Tom Wylie. The reasoning behind this, as it was given at the time, was that the various claws are not strike cards, they are cards that modify the hand damage of the vampire for the rest of the combat round. Damage is not actually inflicted until the damage resolution phase, so it was legally possible to play Claws until that phase and have them count for the current strike, allowing an attacker to save them to see if the strike lands or not. Perhaps L. Scott Johnson knows of a more recent ruling. I hope this helps stephen beaulieu hi...@mail.utexas.edu
