What is the coolest/best/most interesting vamp in 3rd edition? I don´t
mean artwork, but playwise. I vote for either...
Lernean
Tremere antitribu
10-cap, for pro AUS CEL DOM THA, cardinal, burn a blood for an add
strike once each round)
or
Ysador the Foul
Nosferatu antitribu
10-cap, obt ANI DEM FOR OBF POT. Sabbat Cardinal.
Non-infernal, non-demon minions opposing Ysador in combat cannot use
maneuvers to maneuver to close range.
[ quoted text not captured ]
For me it has to be:
Malgorzata
Temere Antitribu
9-cap, VIS AUS DOM THA pre Sabbat Priscus
Malgorzata may remove a vampire in your uncontrolled reigion from the
game to add 4 blood from the blood bank to another vampire in your
uncontrolled reigion as a +1 steath action.
Athough her ability is not unique, ie uncontrolled reigion manipulation
(see Paul Cordwood or Inconnu Tutalage), It adds a whole new dimension
to the game, much like when The Slaughterhouse came into existance.
Previous to it's (the slaughterhouse) existance, the idea of "milling"
an opponents deck to win (via Brinksmanship) was relativley unheard of
concept in V:tes. Personally, I just like anything that allows new
concepts to be tried out. They may not be "white hot" as far as pure
competative play is concerned, but it does allow for another dimension
to be explored, which I love.

Heh. I think "milling" an opponent's deck to win is still realtively
unheard of. Well, in the sense of "I heard that a mill deck won!"...

What is it about these guys that you think is cool or good?
John Eno

For sure Peter, It's not a "optimal" deck strategy by any stretch of
the imagination, my point is, (as I'm sure you gathered) is that it
*allows* new concepts to be played around with. That is what I like.
(Besides I'm sure someone out there has a deck that can drop 3
slaugterhouse's per round and mill the ever-living crap outta its
prey.) Thats also why I'm fond of Frontal Assault and Perpetual Care,
They enable a "bin to win" strategy. Insofar as deck creation goes,
anything that adds to the options avaliable in order to win is good
stuff IMHO. Personally, I can't wait to see a Arika/law firm deck get
rushed stupid and then *voted* to death. :)

Are you serious? Really? Look at my Champion then:

Just guess what can be done with a 7-cap Priscus with OBF and PRE! He
votes, plays Majesty, untaps and bleeds! And he can be grouped with
Ankh-sen-Sutekh, Suzanne Kadim and other uber-powerful Obf/PRE
bleeders!
He's even better than Klaus Konrecht :)

I am a big fan of all of the vamps that can use soul decoration now.
gavatneir harold and cyscek should make a really cool crypt using the
call to get each of them out. im working on it.

My favorite is this one
Eric Kressida [Third:V]
Clan: Tremere antitribu
Group: 4
Capacity: 8
Discipline: cel AUS DOM PRO THA
Sabbat bishop:
If Eric is in torpor during any other Methuselah's discard phase, you

Big title (Votes, Eternal Vigilance and so on). Awesome special. Plenty
of opportunity for multiple actions (for, rutors AND smith for
Helicopter). THA+CEL for solid combat - and the special allow you to
focus on other cel-stuff than add-strikes. pro for more funny combat or
stealth. DOM for the best cards in the game. AUS... well... What more
can you need? (Plus the guy is holding a heart)

Big title. Very nice discipline spread - just a touch of Justicars
disease. Can do just about anything except bounce. The special is just
a little bit less good than Caileans.
Both these vamps are good examples of solid high-cap vamps that can be
used for lots of decks.

Oh, sure. I was just being a wise ass. I have one of those decks,
which, ya know, never even remotely wins, and now whenever I play any
sort of Harbinger on the table, Jon is like "Oh, great. Is this one of
those games where I don't get to play any cards?"

I gotta second Ector :
Name: Stavros
[Third:V]
Cardtype: Vampire
Clan: Malkavian antitribu
Group: 4
Capacity: 7
Discipline: dem AUS OBF PRE
Sabbat priscus.
Artist: Mark Poole
is Enormous (TM) !!
Of course there is also :
Neighbor John
!Ven, 5 cap. dom for AUS. Sabbat.
+1 intercept
(no comment)
But my absolute favorite would be :
Antonio d'Erlette
5 capacity Tremere antitribu
Group 4
dom for pot THA
Sabbat: While Antonio is ready, you may spend four transfers to search
your hand or library (shuffle afterward) for a mage ally Antonio could
play. Put that ally in play with life equal to his starting amount (pay
cost as normal).
- great in Tremere For decks (whom at last have a good crypt)
- great with gargoyles
- good even for dom / pot / for decks
- and DID YOU LOOK AT THAT SPECIAL ?!?! Nephandus (Nephandii ?) Succubus
(Succubae ?), and now Exaped (Exapodarum... erm, forget it) !!
All that in a 5-Cap, and with plenty of friends to play with... Gotta love
the guy.
His only downfall : he's gonna get contested too often.

Stealth, for instance :)
Well, Lernean is nice, but a 10-cap should be powerful, and he isn't
better than Lucas Halton or Cesewayo (both have AUS CEL DOM THA).
Lernean is better in combat, thanks to add. strike, Flesh of Marble and
Fortitude prevention, but Lucas and Cesewayo are better as blockers,
and, IMHO, all these vamps are going to block most of the time.

Can he intercept? Only with Animalism he won't be good at this. Can he
bleed? As good as a 6-cap with DEM/OBF. Actually, he can fight with his
FOR/POT/ANI, but there are much better vamps with the same disciplines.
And his ability is MUCH worse than Cailean's since it doesn't prohibit
maneuvers to long, and his disciplines prompt using close-range combat
with Immortal Grapples.
I'd say that he won't see much play at all...

OK, they may be *solid*, but not *outstanding*. Stavros IS outstanding,
since there were no titled 7-caps (or even 8-caps) with OBF/PRE prior
to 3rd Edition. IMHO, the difference is obvious.

Well, Succubi are demons, not mages, so Antonio would have to go get
them the hard way. Ditto Hexaped things - don't have one in front of
me, but I'm pretty sure they're not mages, since
they're...like...magickal bugs. Or something.

Yeah, that was exactly my thought when I skimmed the set. I think the
one that takes the cake for me of the Obf/Vic crew, though, has got to
be Luc - that +3 hand size action is sweet in a deck that's going to be
as combo-based as a Soul Decoration deck is. I've been working on it
too.

Yep. He's definitely solid, no doubt. And I like how many of the bigger
vamps in the set seem to have Fortitude off-clan, which helps to
mitigate their hugeness. I just didn't see anything in the guy that
screamed "I'm cooler than Dean Martin!"

Eh? Ysador has all three of her in-clans at superior, so she doesn't
have Justicar's Disease at all. In fact, given the prevalence of
Fortitude amongst the group 3/4 !Nosferatu, I'd say she's got the exact
opposite of Justicar's Disease, since she effectively has all four
in-clan disciplines at superior.

Agreed. Neither one of them jumped out at me as, like, super-star
vampires, though, which I why I had been wondering why you thought they
were the coolest vampires in the set.
John Eno

I look at Lernean, then I look at Ayelea the Manipulator, and then I
cry when I realize just how far we've come! ='-)
Ysador is also a big improvement over Yong-Sun.
Both of these vampires also have significantly more synergy with their
clanmates than their Group 2 counterparts ever had. Lernean's special
is especially good since you can have lots of fun Thaumaturgy combat
even without using Celerity cards.
You're always going to have the problem that mid-caps are often a
better investment than 10-caps or 11-caps. But at least the 10-caps
they're printing now are significantly more usable than those in the
past.
My only remaining question is what gender Lernean and Ysador are. I
found both of their pictures to be rather, ambiguous...

I agree that Stavros is awesome. It's as if Korah and Kite had a kid.
Talk about the best of both worlds! (Heh. Maybe his Advanced version
will have superior DEM, inferior Animalism, and +1 intercept!).
But don't be dissin' my man Klaus. In the words of Paris Hilton, an
8-cap Cardinal is just plain "hot." And I think Klaus is significantly
better than silly ole Radu. And now you can throw all of your copies of
Donatien into the trash can where they belong! ;-)

Contested often? One can only hope. Cause that means lots of other
people are playing Tremere Antitribu!
His special is neat, but for practical purposes is only really good for
getting Nephandi and maybe Talaq. Order of Hermes and Mehemet are
definitely not worth it. And this is coming from someone who used to
play a Mage-themed deck years ago.
Orpheus, does this mean you'll shelve the Giovanni in favor of the
Tremere Antitribu during the next storyline? Or maybe you can
compromise by playing a !Tremere deck centered on Marino and also
featuring Phagian? Necromancy for *everyone*! ;-)

I'll second that. Malgorzata is hands down my favorite new vampire in
the set. And it's not just because she's smoking hot (though that
certainly doesn't hurt either!).
In fact, this new set is so amazing that it's awoken me out of torpor
and I'm currently halfway done with another issue of the Tremere
Antitribu newsletter. If you can wait about a week or so, you can read
about all the awesomeness that is Malgorzata!

Ysador manuevears to long and striks with Bats+Crows or Increased Gate
with fortitude for protection. Not every enemy has s:ce. Not in

Sorry, my mistake. I thought JD was when a vamp has too many
disciplines, so that you can´t ever fit all the sweetness in one deck.
So JD is an old expression from the Jyhad-justicars?

Who is the superstar then, do you think? Sure, there are nice smaller

And those 5-caps with two superiors.

Hexapeds do not have a type listed on them. Is this intentional?

I seem to remember that the Hexaped is created as a side-effect of Gargoyle
creation (kind of a "Gargoyle Placenta"), so it seems appropriate to
be equally typeless.
I suppose the Hexaped is still considered to be a "monster", since it is still
NOT a mortal and NOT an animal.

Not every enemy has S:CE, but if he has, you might just waste an action
(or a Wake, if you blocked). Cailean was so good because his special
allowed you to forget about maneuvers. With Ysador, you still have to
maneuver to long. Yes, you may combine it with Aid from Bats or Thrown
Gate, but one generally expects much better results from a 10-cap than
strike for 1 or 2, even if you add Carrion Crows. Trap + Carrion Crows
+ Superior Mettle may be effective, but you'll need too many cards to
make things work.

Stavros has almost nothing common with traditional Malk-voters that
usually had titles and Obfuscate, but no Presence. Superior OBF and PRE
make him a no-brainer in any stealth-voting deck. He rocks. He's much
better than just "solid" :)

You forgot Rapid Change.
Though I've yet to really play with any of the new vampires (beyond the
pre-release, where I've developed some affection for Apache Jones, my
improvised-flamethrower wielding power-bleeder, in 2 out of 3 games no
less), I instantly fell in love with:

her one less! Shotgun Ritual a Cauldron of Blood for 2 blood total?

to Water and Walk of Flame, all for 2 blood (of which you gained up to
4 back). My problem is going to be deciding what combat route to go
for.
Granted, I'm not sure basic ser is going to serve her well, and of
course some Fortitude would have been lovely. Though a Serpentis skill
card and then Heart of Darkness has some interesting possibilities.
Time will tell, of course, I'm rather intrigued be the new Toreador
Antitribu and Lasombra as well, though none have stood out as #1s yet.

No No...
Shotgun Ritual and Drain Essence for 1 blood total.
And Form of Corruption (+ Mirror Walk for stealth).

Just 1 blood. Cauldron only costs 1 blood in general, so Uta would pay
zero for it.

Cauldron of Blood still isn't a good card.

Experiment! I think I'll try the Serenading the Kami and Blood Fury
first. But I'll never try Cauldron of Blood :)

It can never hurt to slot a single Form of Corruption.

Neighbor John. Antonino. Stavros. That weird stealth/bleed !Nosferatu
with the funky blood-counting-during-your-untap special. The !Gangrel
with Serpentis. The !Gangrel who untaps after bleeding and the !Nos who
lets you look at your prey's hand when you successfully bleed.

Yeah. Note how Angus and Democritus don't have all their in-clans at
superior.
Or maybe I'm wrong about what JD is. Anyone want to clarify?

Hektor struck me as having superstar potential. Nobody else that I've
seen so far really made me think I might want to make a deck based
around just that one guy.

Sorry, the thread had wandered far enough that I forgot we were talking
about a specific minion with pro and not the Discipline itself. Still,
that minion has access to Crocodile's Tongue, Seduction, and Mirror
Walk, so he's not up a creek without stealth.

He probably meant Form of Corruption.
1) Put Form of Corruption in play (using Mirror Walk for stealth).
2) Enter combat with prey's minion.
3) Steal lots of blood with kooky Shotgun Ritual/Drain Essence combo.
4) Burn Form of Corruption next turn for free vampire.

No.
I mean Form of Corruption.
Do I need to spell it out for you?
Step 1: Put Form of Corruption in play (using Mirror Walk
for stealth if necessary).
Step 2: Rush. Play Shotgun Ritual and Drain Essence.
Step 3: If the opposing minion still has blood, press (or
rush again) and steal more blood.
Step 4: Steal minion. Profit!

Yes, for some odd reason I had it in my head that Cauldron was 2 blood,
have no idea why. So my combo's even better! (Despite Dorrinal's
opinion!)

I sometimes play with a couple, but agree that past Jyhad, it's never
been a staple in any of my Tremere decks. Merely put out there for an
example, really.

Oh don't worry, I shall!
I do wish I had more Shotgun Rituals. I'm rather ford of my last idea,
though requires a lot of luck for the perfect set up. But I like the
Serenading Blood Fury idea too, so most likely will try that route
first as well.
Hmm, another idea ... Serenading with the Sword of Nuln. Free Magic of
the Smith to get ... 6 blood to heal without preventing ... Make her
Depraved as well ...
Oh yes, and sprinkle in some Perfect Clarity for those annoying
Presence decks too ... What's that, you didn't pack any other form of
combat defense? Such a pity ... fwoosh!
I so wish I had gotten to play the !Tremere in the pre-release! Drat
the luck!

That is very true ... hmmm ...
It's really too bad she doesn't have many friends to share some
Serpentis/Thaumaturgy goodness. Cybele and a couple of Followers
doesn't lend too well to a Thaumaturgy rush deck with sneaky extra
stuff. Though then again .. Uta could be a pretty nasty body-guard,
letting your Snakes run around and do what they do best under her
watchful gaze.
*laughs* Expect some Uta decks coming down the pipe in the near future
from me.

After she Clan Impersonates Tremere, right?

Err ... yes .. of course!
Drat ... another fine idea spoiled by actual card text! Much like my
late, lamented Flesh of Marble/Weather Control idea ... damn
unpreventable damage.
Still, maybe a Tremere buddy can help her out then. Seems like too much
'doing other stuff' to Clan Impersonate first, then tool up, rather
than just rushing. Tremere buddy fetches the Sword while she gets
Rutor's, then Heidelburg over the Sword and some blood and then let Uta
go to town.
Ah, I love dream set-ups ... if only they actually happened when you
played.

My fav is Rusty:
Count Vladimir Rustovitch
Clan: Tzimisce (group 4)
Capacity: 9
Disciplines: ANI AUS VIC dom pot pro
Sabbat: When you draw to replace a combat card Vladimir plays, you may
draw an additional card (discard afterward). He gets +1 strength in
combat with a werewolf. Flight [FLIGHT].
Remember kids, Eagle's Sight is almost as good as another rush!

Profit should always be its own step.
Always.
Ankur
This is my favourity vamp from Third Edition:
Stick
Clan: Nosferatu antitribu (group 4)
Capacity: 3
Disciplines: ANI
Sabbat.
Rarity: Third:V
The perfection.
Also:
Malgorzata
Clan: Tremere antitribu (group 4)
Capacity: 9
Disciplines: AUS DOM THA VIC pre
Sabbat priscus: Malgorzata may remove a vampire in your uncontrolled
region from the game to add 4 blood from the blood bank to another
vampire in your uncontrolled region as a +1 stealth action.
Rarity: Third:V
For Her's special text, and discipline spread (tha+vic= 2/3 aggro
damage, unpreventable by fortitude...nice!)

You have it almost right.
None of the original justicars had fortitude at superior, in spite of
it being in-clan for two of them and them all being 9 or 10 caps.

Angus got the worst of it.
1) No (G1) Justicars have superior Fortitude
2) +1 strength was wicked overcosted
3) Gangrel Titles cost an extra point

Well, ya know, Judah always sucked. And clearly also should have had
inferior obfuscate *and* another minor ability on top. Just like
Cambridge.

Oh, really. How dumb of me! :( But still +1 stealth for 1 blood - not
too impressive even with Earth Control.

Anarchs rock! But losing the Cardinal title after Anarch Secession
won't justify playing Skulduggery :)

I prefer to play True Love's Face with Pariah. He gives you obf and
pre to start with, plus it's a big smelly dog. That way when you bleed
you can say, "+1 bleed, cause your girlfriend looks like this."

Well, I prefer playing decks thats actually puts me in new, creative
situations every game. Mainly toolboxy decks. Blockdecks just blocks
and deals. Around here, I think block decks are played mostly by people
who prefer to win games by tablesplitting in turn 3 or 4 or so. That
get pretty boring in casual games.

Like Blood Rage/Blood Fury and C.Marauder? Mmm. Better play lots of
Horrid Forms then... to avoid getting hit back... and Horrids costs
lots of blood. I´m sceptical.

Don't get me wrong. I love Judah. I have built decks and decks *just*
so I could come up with an excuse to use Judah. But man. They couldn't
have, like, thrown him inferior Obfuscate in the CE Nosferatu starter,
and just claimed it was originally a "misprint" or something?
