Card Title: Rotschreck Pool: n/a Clan/Discip.: n/a Card Type: Master Card Text: Master: out-of-turn Play when a minion attempts to use aggravated damaged against a vampire, whether successfully or not. Combat ends before damage is resolved. That vampire is put in torpor, tapped, with this card on it. During the vampire's next untap phase, burn this card instead of untapping the vampire. Artist: John Bridges Rarity: Uncommon 4 Rotschreck: Play as written. # # That is, play on a vampire who is to receive aggravated damage from # his opponent in combat. Ok, i understand, but I am not receiving aggravated damage if I dodge. I am first to declare attack also. Does card still work? It was played after I declared my strike also. TigersClaw

[ quoted text not captured ] Yes, it still works. You are the target of the agg strike, so you are the one "receiving the damage". That phrase is merely used by way of explaining which minion (the dealer or the recipient) is targetted by Rotschreck. The actual card text doesn't mention "receiver", simply "against a vampire". If you are a vampire and your opponent attempts to use agg damage against you, then you are a prospect for Rotschreck. The "whether successfully or not" clause on card text is meant to answer questions regarding Dodge and damage prevention, etc. -- LSJ (vte...@wizards.com) VTES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. 1: Can I play amaranth after I just played the kiss of Ra? I'm not sure because I only have the jyhad version where it says that if an opposing vampire goes to torpor you get the opportunity to diablerize. But it doesn't state that it has to be done in combat. 2: If I play movement of the slow body and someone tries to block this can I play day operation. I think yes. Also if this vampire had a fame on him would my prey lose another three pool. I think no but on the day operation it states that the acting minion goes to torpor after the action is concluded, only the acting minion is already in torpor. 3: Exactly when is the blood for an action paid. if I play an action card that costs 4 blood and my vampire only has 4 blood can I still play action modifiers that cost blood if I don't want my vampire to be blocked. Suppose that this vampire is blocked. So he doesn't have to pay the blood and goes to combat. In this combat he plays terror frenzy which costs him one blood and as strike he plays form of mist at superior. What happens to the action. 4: When I try to rescue a vampire without blood from torpor with a vampire with 2 blood on him can I play earth control to avoid being blocked and am I therefore unable to rescue the vampire from torpor.Correct?

(Fame has errata saying that the controller, not the prey, loses three pool when the vampire goes to torpor.) > 3: Exactly when is the blood for an action paid. When the action remains unblocked. [6.2.3.] > if I play an action card that costs 4 blood and my > vampire only has 4 blood can I still play action modifiers > that cost blood if I don't want my vampire to be blocked. Yes. The action will "fizzle" (resolve with no effect) if the cast cannot be paid at the appropriate time. > Suppose that this vampire is blocked. So he doesn't have to pay > the blood and goes to combat. In this combat he plays terror > frenzy which costs him one blood and as strike he plays form of > mist at superior. What happens to the action. If no one re-blocks the misty vampire, the action fizzles. > 4: When I try to rescue a vampire without blood from torpor > with a vampire with 2 blood on him can I play earth control > to avoid being blocked and am I therefore unable to rescue > the vampire from torpor.Correct? The rescue action fizzles, correct. [ quoted text not captured ]

So, no, you can't use it outside of combat on something like Kiss of Ra. > 2: If I play movement of the slow body and someone tries to block > this can I play day operation. I think yes. Yes, you can, but you'll be right back in torpor obviously. > Also if this vampire had a fame on him would my prey lose another > three pool. I think no but on the day operation it states that the > acting minion goes to torpor after the action is concluded, only the > acting minion is already in torpor. Fame affects the controller of the vampire rather than the prey of the vampire's controller (errata). In any case, Fame would be triggered because you successfully left torpor but then are sent to torpor because of Day Operation's effect. > 3: Exactly when is the blood for an action paid. > if I play an action card that costs 4 blood and my vampire only has > 4 blood can I still play action modifiers that cost blood if I don't > want my vampire to be blocked. You don't pay action card costs unless the action is successful. You pay action _modifier_ card costs immediately. If you no longer have enough blood to pay for the action card after playing action modifiers or other things, the action fizzles (has no effect). > 4: When I try to rescue a vampire without blood from torpor with a > vampire with 2 blood on him can I play earth control to avoid being > blocked and am I therefore unable to rescue the vampire from > torpor.Correct? You could play Earth Control, but because you can no longer pay the cost to rescue, the vampire stays in torpor. So yes, you are correct. Oops, I was thinking Rapid Healing when I did my reply. Fame is not trigger twice because you never leave torpor; you cannot enter something you are already in. :) If you were trying to leave torpor or do something like Rapid Healing, it would trigger.
