There's a couple of sweet quick little two-player games i wanted to
draw people's attention to; both can be worked up to three-player
without too much trouble. Although both are simple neither game is
what you might call tightly-designed, so be prepared for some SERIOUS
rules lawyering [or else throw dice to decide which is the right
interpretation, as we do].
The first is the Call of Cthulhu CCG, which i think is probably rather
breakable but works great if you play with commons and uncommons only,
and would probably still work pretty well if you imposed a 1CL for
rare cards.
The second is a Pirate ships constructible game whose name, alas,
escapes me. It is NOT Seven Seas, of that i'm sure, and it is made by
Wizkids. The little ships are lovely and the doubloons make a HIGHLY
satisfying ringing sound as you toss them onto a wooden surface. You
do not HAVE to do an execrable impersonation of a Poyrate, Espaniardo
or Top-Hole Inglish chep to play this game, but stroike moy loyts aut
if oi doan't, arrrr jim lad. Hispanic readers' breasts will swell with
pride when i reveal that the Armada Grande [Tirador and Joya del Sol,
both 4 masts plus El Leon, 3] defeated the wicked corsairs [Harbinger,
5 masts and Freedom, 4] last night in a series of courageous ramming
actions just off the Pirate Coast. Viva el Rey!
