umm.. . well this is my first deck and I made it based on the Disciplines of Protean and Fortitude. The theme I was trying to go for was this, I horde blood and I get my vampire out quick...hmm...I'm not sure that came out right...oh well heres the deck... ^_^ Vampires ----------- Roman Alexander - 4 cap pro/for/ani Ricki Van Demsy - 3 cap pro/for Anastasia Grey - 3 cap pro/ani Gitane St. Claire - 7 cap PRO/FOR/ANI - primogen Gunther - Beast Lord - 7 cap - aus/pro/for/ANI Bear Paw - 5 cap pro/pre/for/ANI Zack North - 6 cap dom/pro/for/ani Badger - 6 cap ani/dom/PRO/FOR Camille Devereux - 5 cap ani/PRO/FOR Angus - The Unruled - 10 cap cel/dom/for/PRO/ANI - gangrel justicar Basilia - 10 cap dom/obf/PRO/FOR/ANI - primogen Quinton McDonnell - 8 cap cel/pro/ani/FOR Total Vampires: 12 Total Blood: 74 Avg. One thing though, if you do post a reply and tell me that I should have this card and should lose this card... Please tell me why, being my first deck I don't know all the ins and outs of deck building yet and any insight that you can give me would be great! This way I'll become a better deck builder ^_^ Bill

Drop Angus. > Basilia - 10 cap dom/obf/PRO/FOR/ANI - primogen > Quinton McDonnell - 8 cap cel/pro/ani/FOR For 8 pool you should at least get both disciplines at superior. Drop Quinton. As a general rule, when spending 6 or more pool on a vampire they should have all of the disciplines that you are planning to use at superior. Double up on the vampires that have both at superior, Camille, Badger, Gitane. If you really have to go higher than 6, you need to get a lot of benefit from their special abilities and that vampires you have chosen aren't very special. You only have to have 12 cards in your crypt not 12 unique vampires. A number of very successful decks have been made with only 4-6 different vampires with multiple copies of each in the crypt but only one copy of each vampire in play. > > Total Vampires: 12 Total Blood: 74 Avg. Blood: 6.1 > > Master > -------- As you can only play 1 per turn, you should never go above 16-20 without also playing other cards that let you play them more often. Most games will last 10-12 turns max once you and your opponents are comfortable with the game. > Ascendance - 4 > Gird Minions - 2 Get rid of this card. Vampires can hunt. That is what they should do to regain blood, in very few situations should you ever want to put blood back on them from your pool. > Minion Tap - 2 > Elder Library - 1 > Effective Management - 2 > Protracted Investment - 4 Get rid of these and fast. It takes 4 turns to gain a profit from playing this card during which time you play zero other master cards. Unless you are playing with Anson (Toreador) this card should not even be considered for your deck. > Short Term Investment - 4 Either get rid of the Ascendances or the STI's. I would get rid of the Ascendances because you don't have any long term gain from them but you only gain 1 more from the STI's and you have to pay a pool to bring them into play. Remember, you cannot play another master card if you pull a blood off of an investment card. I would recommend Blood Dolls over all the cards that I have mentioned so far. They allow you to regain pool, put pool on vampires if necessary and don't take up the master phase actions on other turns. A game winning tactic is to have a small vamp or two with Blood Dolls hunting every turn to constantly bring blood back into your pool, which you can then use to bring out more vampires. Eventually, your predator or prey will start trying to block these hunting actions but hunting is at +1 stealth so it will not be easy for them. > Protean - 2 > Fortitude - 2 > Information Highway - 2 > Zoo Hunting Ground - 1 > Eco Terrorists - 1 > Backways - 1 > > Total: 28 > > Action > -------- > > Restoration - 4 > The Fourth Tradition: The Accounting - 2 (note - is this card a master > or did they screw up when printing it???) Yes, they screwed up printing it. It is an action card not a master card. > The Fifth Tradition: Hospitality - 2 You only have 1 vampire that can play the 4th or the 5th Tradition and I recommended earlier that you yank him. Yank these 4 cards as well. > Ritual Challenge - 1 > Movement of the Slow Body - 2 > Rapid Healing - 2 You certainly seem to plan on going to torpor a lot. Without some way of reliably going to torpor (Day Operation) I would probably remove these and use just about anything else. Computer Hacking for example. As the point of the game is to remove the opponents pool, cards that help you do that will help speed up your deck, and Speed is Good (TM). > Total: 13 > > Action Mod. > -------------- > > Freak Drive - 2 > Earth Control - 2 > > Total: 4 > > P. Action > ------------ > > Consanguineous Boon - 2 With only two vote cards and only 3 vampires with votes, these will almost never pass in anything but a 2 player game. Ditch them or add more vote gaining cards like Gangrel Justicar or any of the Praxis Seizure cards. > Total: 2 > > Equipment > ------------- > > Hawg - 2 > Grenade - 2 > Ivory Bow - 1 > IR Goggles - 3 As a general rule equipment is too slow to bother with. Keep the Ivory Bow because long range aggravated damage is always a good thing but the rest should go and should be replaced with Protean combat cards. Unless you are doing the running away (maneuvering to long) IR Goggles will be a wasted action for you. > Total: 8 > > Combat > --------- > > Skin of Night - 2 > Skin of Rock - 4 > Skin of Steel - 4 > Wolf Claws - 4 > Lucky Blow - 2 > Fake Out - 2 Get rid of Fake Out and replace with Form of the Ghost. Replacing cards is essential to a good combat deck (or any other deck really). More below. > Boxed In - 2 Get rid of this and put in Gleam of the Red Eyes for your presses. You want to be able to cycle your cards as much as possible. It is better to replace that press card and draw your Lucky Blow than it is to play your press and be with 6 cards until the end of combat. > Blood Rage - 2 Blood Rage was misprinted. It is a thaumaturgy strike not a fortitude strike. Take it out. > Body of Sun - 1 > Earth Meld - 4 > Claws of the Dead - 4 > Indomitability - 4 > > Total: 35 You know of course that officially there is no card limit in Jyhad. You may have more than 4 of every card in your deck. I assume that most of your limits are going to be from simply not having more rather than anything else, but thought I might remind you anyway. If you want to use equipment, Laptop Computers are much better than the combat based ones you have chosen. With your Wolf Claws and Claws of the Dead, you won't see combat reach a second round more often than not because your opponent will be in torpor (unless they can avoid your damage by preventing or dodging). A last reminder, the point of the game is to remove your prey's pool. Things that help you do that are good and things that don't should be carefully considered. Carpe Noctem. Please tell me why, being my first deck I don't know all > the ins and outs of deck building yet and any insight that you can > give > me would be great! This way I'll become a better deck builder ^_^ > Well, let`s remember the basic things of deck building: 1st: You want to oust your prey. After you ousted your prey, you want to oust your next prey. After that you want to continue ousting until you won. 2nd: To win all those victory points, you have to be fast enough to get them before someone else accumulates too much victory points. Speed is important. 3rd: You have to make sure that you can pursue your strategy by an effective tactic: it mustn`t be luck which wins you the game (at least, not always) So if you play with FOR PRO, try to use the most cost efficient vamps with those disciplines: Camille Devereux Badger Gitane St. Claire Raven (the V:TES replacement for Camille) and some weenies as supporting bleeders / rescue teams. This makes sure that you have the disciplines you need for a decent pool cost, and you can act fast enough to damage your prey. A sample (Jyhad-only) crypt might be: 3x Camille Devereux 3x Badger 3x Gitane St. Claire 1x Igo the Hungry 1x Guliano Vincenci 1x Ricky van Demsi IMHO the best strategy for PRO FOR is rush & bleed, so you want to first strike your enemies into submission and then bleed your prey into nothingness. A nice tactic could be to (Bum`s) Rush them first, beat the enemy vamps into torpor, freak drive, equip with a Laptop, freak drive, bleed with Computer Hacking. (Skip the Laptop if you want) The problem is one of the most common anti-combat defenses: Strike : Combat ends. To cope with this, you need Animalism (work with Animalism master cards) Tactic would be now: Bleed with (Laptop &) Computer Hacking if they don`t block - well, fine. if they block, you play Dawn Operation (damage in combat is aggro) Drawing out the Beast (superior version) Strike: Form of Mist or Earth Meld (superior version) (Effect: At the end of combat, your enemy takes 1 unpreventable aggro damage and you continue with your action / untap) Of course you best have a Skin of Steel in your hand, just in case someone wants to immortally grapple you (so you have to use hand strikes) Or you work with Potence, using Immortal Grapple yourself (basic potence is sufficient) Bum`s Rush, Drawing out the beast (to keep them at close range), Immortal Grapple (no combat ends, no dodge, just hand strikes), Wolf Claws for some aggro damage and Skin of Steel to prevent enemy strike damage. Of course, all strike tactics may be combined with the Undead Persistence + Movement of the slow body + Rapid healing combination of cards, but - remember: those actions may be blocked. Michael Beer

I use the Eff. Oh and the reason that I kept in the 4 cards that are only usable if a vampire is in torpor is simple....you never know if they'll get in a lucky blow... better safe than sorry. Bill

I didnt think the DawnOp/DotB/FoM combo worked.I've always read '...at the end of the round' to mean after presses would have been used rather then 'when the round ends'. So if you S:CE then there is no damage from DotB. Someone wanna give me the definitive? Floatey.

Disagree slightly. HtH decks do need some way to close the range in combat, as we have seen from another recent thread people playing weenie presence bleed prefer to mix their majesties and fake outs. For the Gangrel the card of choice is Drawing out the Beast, so that there is no possibility of being defeated in a maneuver contest, this also stops the opposing minion using equipment. However, you may not always have the DotB in your hand/may run out, so equipping your vampire with a permanent maneuver is not a bad thing. I would recommend shadow of the beast for a gangrel over IR goggles. But if you are only using jyhad cards, an IR Goggle or two wont hurt, especially if you play with a few freak drives. There is nothing as sad for a combat deck as having your fistfull of devastating combat cards defeated by one simple card. Floatey.

The Owl Copmanion is also cool. IMO a Gangrel deck (especially if it is your first one) should make use of the animalism Retainers. It's their theme after all. And I doubt that your friends will only play stealth and bleed or weenie bleed and oust you, just because you bring a retainer or a piece of equipment. You should at least experiment with them, you know the meta-game is different in every playgroup. :) > > -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------- > > Hawg - 2 > Grenade - 2 > > taken out, replaced with 4 laptop computer 4? Right, always try your ideas out before changing anything. I found out, that in my playgroup most decks favored in the NG simply don't work. Last time I played a Weenie potence Rush deck, and I utterly failed. I had 7 vamps out, and my predator had 4 vamps in Torpor, and 1 vamp was ready. My prey had no vamp ready (both of his Gangrel in Torpor) and he was already down to 3 pool. But my predator played Domain Challenge, and with the help of my axis (we use this term for grand predator) he got it through, I lost 5 pool and was ousted. What I want to say is: make your own experiences, and don't let others tell you what to do. More often than not your playgroup will screw their advice. :) > > Oh and the reason that I kept in the 4 cards that are only usable if a > vampire is in torpor is simple....you never know if they'll get in a lucky > blow... better safe than sorry. That's right. I had them also in my deck. Did I tell you that I started to play in 94 with Gangrel as well? Carl (VEKN Prince of Vienna) [ quoted text not captured ]

That doesn't sound like it utterly failed to me. What that sounds like is that the rest of the table saw that you were going to win, and decided to oust you to keep you from winning. So...it sounds like it was quite effective...enough so that everyone decided you were the biggest threat, and had to be removed no matter what. Although it isn't a real victory, it's certainly a compliment. You *were* one turn away from ousting your prey, and I can only imagine that the next would have been relatively easy, as he helped with a vote that he must have known would have given his prey one oust, and quite possibly an easy one after you were gone... > What I want to say is: make your own experiences, and don't let others tell > you what to do.
