attempting to follow the 1st strike vs dodge thread, a thought came to mind: can a dodge be played as an additional strike (i'm sure it's on the web somewhere, but i rarely have time for that)? e.g. vamp A with a flamethrower & CEL does an action which vamp B, who has pot, blocks. A declares his strike to be the flamethrower. B then declares his strike to be shattering blow (at inferior, of course). A tries to save his flamethrower by playing nimble feet for an additional strike, & vampiric speed for a dodge. is that possible? also, when does one declare wolf claws/claws of the dead/fists of death/etc? before strikes are declared? or before they are resolved but after they are declared? btw my 2 cents for the 1st strike vs dodger issue: perhaps it would be better to imagine that dodge incorporates a lot of concepts, like bleeding, such as martial arts blocking, hiding behind something, running around the corner, not just necessarily sidestepping. 1st strike is no good if your target isn't in sight.

No he can't use additional strikes to try to save the Flame thrower. The flame thrower would be destroyed by the shattering blow and a subsequent additional strike dodge wouldn't save it. This is because the flame thrower is already broken when the time comes for additional strikes. > also, when does one declare wolf claws/claws of the dead/fists of > death/etc? before strikes are declared? or before they are resolved > but after they are declared? Wolf claws/claws of the dead can be declared anytime before the strike resolution but the *best* thing would be to wait and see what your opponents strike was before you play them. Fists of death is another matter. It can only be played before range is determined. [snipped] Hope this helps, Robert

Yes. But that's only really useful if the opposing vampire has additional strikes. > e.g. vamp A with a > flamethrower & CEL does an action which vamp B, who has pot, blocks. > A declares his strike to be the flamethrower. No. The initial strikes of the round are declared (chosen) and then resolved before even the opportunity to gain additional strikes occurs. By the time A can play Nimble Feet, his FT has been destroyed and the opposing vampire has taken two agg damage. Assuming the opposing vampire didn't prevent that damage (or convert it to normal, whatever), combat is over and no additional strikes can be gained or used. > also, when does one declare wolf claws/claws of the dead/fists of > death/etc? before strikes are declared? or before they are resolved > but after they are declared? During the declaration phase - including the time after both minions have declared their strikes but before moving to the strike resolution phase. -- L. Oops. I didn't notice that Fists of Death was included in the list. Addendum: Unless the card says otherwise, of course, like Fists of Death (which must be played before range is determined by card text). (Thanks, Robert, for catching that one.)
