I saw that James Coupe had posted a new toreador with a bigger, easier to
find clan symbol.
Not to be out done I went ahead and fixed all the problems I have with the
new design.

I like it. I mean I really like it. I especially like the ocher taskbar that
replaces the green taskbar.
The only problem is the "3", Sure it fits in the Ankh symbol, but numbers
like it cannot be expected to fit in future expansion symbols. It should
stay where it was.

You know... a good place for the '3' might have been on the *back* of the
card. That way, a judge in a tournament could easily just scan the crypt
backs and make sure that there were no consecutive numbers. Sure, none of
the old cards have numbers on them, but you can easily tell at least *some*
of the Group 1 by that big 'JYHAD' :)
Of course, it's too late now... and this solution probably also sucks ass in
ways I haven't yet thought of.

Like, maybe, "marking" cards?
If there's new protomalks, for example, you'd always know whether that's
a CE vampire or good old Greger Anderson on the top of your crypt.

Can I still argue for the enlarged clan symbol? You still have the
space to drop it down and enlarge it. (Thus meaning that long names and
titles can still be included for vampires.)
The ochre/brown back side-bar is *lush*, however. If I could've been
arsed to scan in a card back to get the colours right, I'd've done it.
But I'm a lazy sod.

You do realize that the clan symbol "used to be" on the left, right?
The only symbols that have moved from right to left are the discipline
symbols. You've just traded moving them for moving the clan symbol (and
the expansion set symbol).
Not defending either method, just pointing out that the statement that
all the symbols used to be on the right side is in error, although in
this case, where the expansion set symbol look very much like one of the
clan symbols, putting the expansion symbol where the clan symbol used
to be is ... an interesting choice.

Yeah, but I figured you might as well have all the vampire info in 1 single
place. Including clan, disciplines, and capacity. Basically you could
cover the whole guy with counters, and still leave all the info about him
viewable.

I would have made the expansion symbol small, and like james said, made the
clan symbol bigger. I just didn't know how to resize them =/ In fact,
after thinking about it I think I would just say drop the expansion symbol
all together. Its just an unneeded bit of information. Especially now that
there are grouping numbers. Besides, I HOPE the anarch set(if it has an
expansion symbol) isn't the malkavian mirror, cause the catiff ankh is
annoying.

Unsure what that has to do with the statement that all the symbols used to
be on the right.

Again you seem to be misinformed. Expansion is not a function of group
number, nor is group number a function of expansion. It is true, however,
that for vampires that have no group number printed on them, the group
number is a function of the existence of an expansion set symbol on the
card, which also means that it is a function of expansion for that subset
of vampires (although, still, the expansion cannot be determined from the
thusly-assigned group number).

Expansion symbols are extremely useful. I could never understand why a company
wouldn't use them. The amount of effort to think of one can't be that hard
when numerous CCGs are able to do it. There's always some dead space somewhere
on a card. Etc.

I like them too.
Whilst using a Brujah-esque symbol has potential, it'd get confusing.
I'd caution against it, for the same reasons I wouldn't have used the
Ankh, if I was designing TCE.
Something like a torn up Sabbat Seal and shattered Ankh could work, and
be quite arty, and quite distinct. Maybe.

What do expansion symbols do exactly? maybe I dont understand their
usefulness. All they do is make 5 different copies of undead strength for
me to collect.

You could say the same thing about art on the cards. I don't think
everything on the card has to have a strict game function to be useful.
Expansion symbols give you some context for the card, gives you a clue if a
card is a recent or old version, and gives you some history about the card.
I like to group my cards by set since I remember a lot about cards by when
they were printed. (Granted, the value of doing this seems to diminish a
lot as more and more sets get printed since my memory for that many cards
eventually melts down.)
Fred

Boils down to identification and, in certain circumstances not likely to affect
most people playing this game, limitations on deck construction.
Similarly, BTW, a rarity indicator is highly useful. Both act as mental (and
sometimes physical) filters. I've used three CCGs' deck builders. The best by
far was able to sort off of set and rarity in addition to the stuff the ELDB
(for instance) can sort off of as the searches could be far more precise which
meant they took significantly less time.
I can understand that not everyone thinks in terms of set and rarity or sorts
cards thusly, but, for instance, the first thing I think of when Blood Puppy*
is mentioned is "crap rare" not "crap master" or "crappy 3 pool cost card" or
"crappy pool gain card" (or "crappy Jyhad/V:TES card").
* Will it become playable? Guess we find out in a couple of months.

Aaron,
I like what you did with the format for the new vampire cards. It is
really nice having all the disciplines right above the vampire's
capacity. A good use of space, it's easy to see most of the important
information, and the disciplines are on the same side as they used to
be... well done. The amber bar is also a nice touch (or is it just
plain ole brown?). :o)
Could you create another one with the expansion set symbol to the
right of the portrait? (like it used to be) I think that would make
an interesting third option. LSJ made a good point when he mentioned
that the clan symbols used to be on the right. No need to do anything
"new" that might confuse people, right? ;o)
You could also put the "3" inside the oval part of the expansion
symbol. Or near the clan symbol... or maybe just above the
discipline spread. If you wanted to...
You said that it was too hard to resize either the clan symbol or the
expansion symbol, but it would make quite a difference in the overall
look. If you can figure out how to do that, I think it would really
improve the card (IMHO). I assume that you played with this quite a
bit, but it can't be that much harder than what you've already done.
What program are you using?
You may not want to spend any more time on this (and I would
understand that), but if you do ever mess around with it again, I
think there are people that would like to see a few more various
styles... several different ones on the same page could be fairly
interesting. Maybe 4 total (including White Wolf's version) ...or
even more if you have several new ideas.
Looking forward to seeing any changes you might make,
Howard

It's mostly trivial, with a little magic wand work in Photoshop, given
that the contrast is usually quite good.

I merely did a larger symbol:
