With the change in card text from 'cannot comitt diablerie' to and actual trait 'blood curse' with the trait explained in the rulebooklike 'cold iron vulnerability' and 'sterile', I wonder why the opportunity wasn't taken to exapnd on this rule a little? Assamites are often seen as the poor sisters to other combat decks in tourney play (although recently there has been an upswing with Tariq and other decks). I personally find it a slap in the face when my assamite cannot comitt diablerie but the assamite himeself can be diablerized! The blood curse is supposed to work both ways, why not make this so in the rulebook? ie: Blood Curse. Vampires with this trait cannot diablerize or be diablerized. Simple, authentic to the background material, and adds a new twist to a common dynamic. I know its too late and probably not worth the hassle to change now, but I thought I would just air out this idea anyways. (you never know, the raging discussion on first strike when I first joined this group caused veil of silence from what I saw) T

I understood that the curse made the blood of other clans poisonous to the Assamites. Can you give a reference for the book that says that the blood curse made Assamite blood poisonous to the other clans? Thanks, Scott -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. I havent read the clan novels, but i think i remember something about this in the clanbook. Some of the Quietus powers in the rpg works because the blood of assamites are dangerous (give agg wounds) to other vampires, which i think is also reflected in some quietus combat cards (blood agony, eruption of vitae, foul blood (not sure about this one)) I dont mind when things dont follow the rpg and in this specific example i think it would be a bit imbalanced if assamites could never be diablerized. But i think its mentioned somewhere.

However, Quietus involves a lot of manipulation of that blood and many of those powers allow an Assamite to make their blood poisonous. Maybe that's why everyone thinks that Assamites are naturally poisonous? Halcyan 2

Don't have the clanbook though, nor have I played the rpg in ages. Seems to me that if Assamite blood is poison to other vamps, and other clans blood poison to them, diablerie in either direction would be next to impossible. But I don't have a specefic example that I can recall other than that. > > I dont mind when things dont follow the rpg and in this specific > example i think it would be a bit imbalanced if assamites could never > be diablerized. But i think its mentioned somewhere. Really? I think it would be interesting seeing as they have little finishing power or ousting ability myself. Why the heck should other clans be able to diablerize them? What makes it so unbalanced? Again I don't have my hopes up on this one, but unbalanced I don't see either. T

A quick search through the Tournament Winning Deck archive shows up: "Gratuitous" by Jeff Kuta Deck Name: Tariq and his little brother Juan Cali goes out eating! (5 copies of Tariq) Deck Name: Potent Vitae Created by: Remy Auclair In the first few searches, as well as three or four other decks with a few Assamites scattered in. So, say, 2.5 winning decks. Looking above that, I'd guess at about, hmm, 70 or 80 decks after that time frame, with many clans to choose from, as well as multi-clan decks. This is, of course, post Final Nights. >Why the heck should other >clans be able to diablerize them? What makes it so unbalanced? Again >I don't have my hopes up on this one, but unbalanced I don't see >either. Spurious line of thought. You have to prove that things are unbalanced already before additional rules get put in to fix a problem. After all, we could put in dozens of little rules. What makes them so unbalanced? While the Assamites are not exactly tearing up the TWD archive, they have recently made very good showings at several tourneys. (see Todd Banister's Path of Blood website: http://www.thepathofblood.com) As for the Blood Curse, AFAIK, it made all non-Assamite vampire blood toxic to Assamites. What you may be thinking of is the Quietus power that allows an Assamite to transmute their blood into a caustic acid (agg damage). This power is the basis behind the Taste of Death (and Baal's Caress?) powers in the RPG. While I think their might be a lvl 5+ Quietus power that allows the Assamite's blood to always be toxic to other vampires, that would be a Quietus effect, not the Blood Curse which is only a weakness. I am curious why the Assamite clan weakness was put on the vampire as card text when most all other clan's weaknesses are "hoser" cards like Brujah Frenzy and Malkavian Dementia. Does the "Blood Cursed" text have some costing or balancing effect on the vampire design process. As a somewhat hardcore Assamite player, I'd much rather have had a hose card called "Blood Curse" floating around than the "Tajdid" cure card. Aramis

I don't have any references, but I have played the rpg quite a lot, and I have also played an assamite so I am very sure about this. the blood curse makes the blood of other kindred (I am not sure if this included assamites as well) poisonous to assamites. this caused the assamite to take one level of aggravated damage for each blood point consumed. in general the blood of assamites is not poisonous to other kindred, but quietus can make it poisonous... however, when that is done it does not affect the blood in the assamites system, it only applies to the blood the assamite is using for the discipline (smearing on weapon, spitting, smearing on anothewr vampire etc.).

This is an example of the clan weaknesses at work. Brujah are "prone to frenzying", Malks can be debilitated by their dementia, Ventrue occasionally have issues feeding. But the Assamites, whose only concept is to kill vampires, can never diablerize their victims. This is okay for me in the game, too, since Assamites have so much combat power in the game that the opposing players will never have vampires if the Assamites can just chow down whenever they want to. Of course, there are other clans that do torpor easily, but with no votes, no Dom, and with cel obf and quietus, the assamites can ONLY do combat. So having a full time flaw is okay with me. That's the theory. But in fact, Assamites don't have any votes, so they can't just chow down wenever they want to, they'll just get blood hunted. And if Assamites are really that unstoppable with the Blood Curse removed, why isn't Tajdid broken? > Of course, there are other clans that do torpor easily, but with no votes, > no Dom, and with cel obf and quietus, the assamites can ONLY do combat. The Gangrel (for example) are in a similar situation, and yet they don't need to be Blood Cursed. Flux
