A while ago, when I was teaching the game to my friends, I wrote a
step-by-step version of the rules in Dutch.
I didn't literally translate the rulebook (no point, since almost all
Dutch folks know English), but I tried to make an easy-to-reference
"how to" for newbies, based on what (IME) the things are that people
usually get wrong or will be confused about. You see, I found the
rulebook to be perfectly fine and clear, but not necessarily a good
tool for learning the game out of nothing.
So I made a 1-page document stating the phases of the game, with short
descriptions on what to do in each phase; a step-by-step outline of
combat; a document on "how to play a card" and so forth. All in all
it's 12 pages in Word, fonts size 10.
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in having or archiving
it, Lasombra perhaps? If so, maybe it's a good idea if an experienced
player who speaks Dutch would check it for mistakes first.

Yes and no. It has a similar step-by step structure, but I wrote it in
a way that's not as 100% unambiguous/specified, but more like in a
"newbie-language".
So I put more emphasis on rules of thumb, sometimes stating the
obvious, and tried to offer some extra explanations on "what a rule
says and what that means for certain situations (kindof like the
rulings on the WW website).
In other words, on one hand I'm not as thourough on some issues as the
rule outlines are, but on the other I emphasise certain little things
that (judging from personal experience) I think newbies might have
trouble with.
You can't read Dutch by any chance, can you LSJ?

I could look it over for you, if need be. just toss it on here, im
sure there might be others chiming in.
Cheers,

You mean copy the text here? I could, but the easy-reference layout
will probably get ruined, and that's one of the major things I tried
to do. Maybe it's a better idea to upload it somewhere or perhaps e-
mail it (to you)?

I'd be interested in that document as well. I'm at the moment teaching new
people the game as well

Sure, only I have no website of my own (just a couple of those crappy
friend/network things). Sorry. Anyone have a place I can upload it to?

Print it to pdf, and email that to me.
I will host it.

sure. just email it to me (but swap 'hotmail' for 'yahoo' in my email
address to get it to work, as noted in my sig. :)
although most internet service providers (ISPs) I know allow you to have
some amount of free web hosting space. you should look into it on your
ISP's website and see if you have something similar.

You can temp host files at mediafire.com or myfreefilehosting.com
@ Izaak: thanks! I put it on mediafire.
@ Salem: thanks a lot for the offer, but I decided to put it on
mediafire for everyone to access easily.
@ Lasombra: I'll wait until some other Dutch speakers have checked the
text for mistakes, so you don't have to go through the trouble of
putting it on your site more than once. I'll definitely send it to you
after it's been checked.

Let me know what you think! As I said, these are not meant to be a
translation of (or replacement for) the rulebook, but as a way to
easily search for and understand rules and game mechanics.

Sure. Thought this would be handier... shows you what I know.

I know the rules are 40 + # of players ( minimaal 40, maximaal 40 + (10
x het aantal spelers)), but typically around here we just play with
60-90 card libraries, the V:EKN rules. That way we don't have to drop
10 cards in a 4 player game. And while on the topic, the minimaal # of
cards is 60, not 40. It's only 40 in limited play.
Dutch is strangely like English, yet not. I feel like it's a code with
the filter just slightly off. Instead of or, it's "of". Instead of
you, it's "je".
But then words like voorwerp pop up, and blammo, I realize it's a very
different language after all.

Yeah I know. We decided on the V:EKN rule immideately as well. I just
added that because, well, it's in the rulebook.

Lmao! Yeah, lots of English speakers get that. Dutch, I feel, is
exactly what you'd expect given the big nations that surround it:
sortof in the middle between English and German, with a little French
here and there.
Would be interesting to have you translate what I wrote back into
English and see how far you get... ;-) Perhaps you could use it to
crank up on your Dutch a bit.. after all, you already know what it's
supposed to say, now figure out the exact words!
FYI: "voorwerp" means "object". Come to think of it, literally "voor-
werp" translates into "before-throw"... hmm.

Sure, no problem. I'll wait until it's been checked for mistakes for
that as well, though.
